Is FE a sRPG? Because if so, then NI doesn't have any "near-monopoly".
Yes, its an SRPG.

It was noted before. 5k+ sales. Lets conveniently say its at 40k LTD then. It could get to around 60k lifetime.
No. We know SKEV did 10k digital PS4+PSV. From my memory, PS4's digital ratio is one of the best, if not the best alongside PSV. We can make a decent guess that its a 6:4 split.
Again, that is the improved Vita version. I think people are getting used to waiting for the improved portable version or waiting for the price to drop. The main producer of the Disgaea series is still there and did D5...I don't think the gameplay itself was diminished at all.
I love the series, but lets face it...there are less changes between each game than there is between Madden releases...and at least Madden comes out every year, as opposed to the 2-3 year Disgaea window, not counting the Vita re-releases.
They need to embrace new platforms and add something new to the series that non-Disgaea fans can get excited about. I honestly think the graphics are what hurts the most...very difficult to find almost any PS3 game with worse graphics than D5.
But I think they will survive enough to make a D6...sales of Disgaea games have been dropping for awhile and they have lost the publishing rights to alot of the other games they used to release. They may have to close the NISA offices and let someone else publish it like the first Disgaea. All that being said, they still have a near-monopoly on SRPG games...but Project X Zone is not even 1% of the SRPG that Disgaea is, yet sells alot better. Maybe they could also use their SRPG "engine" on another publisher's IP, ala Marvel vs Capcom or that Pokemon-Tekken fighter.
I'm sure its higher than 1k, but I just picked a random low number for the sake of my post lol. Also, a 6:4 split seems kinda high IMO.
Doesn't low stock usually lead to higher used game sales and therefore the game might lose some sales even if the stock situation stabilizes following week ?

And even accounting for digital sales, D5 is an outright bomb.
Geez why are people so quick to shoot down things here? I already said in this thread that sales were terrible...and sorry but I meant a near Playstation monopoly...all the other SRPGs have been on the Nintendo portables.
Used market isn't such a big problem if demand is there. There are numerous examples and Etrian Mystery Dungeon is a recent one. It took 3 weeks until new copies are printed, that didn't stop its sales rising when stock arrived.
Reading a few pages back, what's with the relentless intent on painting BB as a bomba in here? It's starting to look a bit petty. It didn't sell gangbusters, but it sold good for an exclusive game on a system with a 1.2m install base. This is more or less a Souls game, remember?
found Famitsu weekly hardware sales before 2000
On the Wii U side, well at least Mario Party 10 is having some legs... I guess it has a chance to hit like 150K?
If it lost ~20% of sales each week for the next 5 weeks MP10 would be at 150K, so I guess 150K LTD should be in reach barring some other event cutting into its legs... (Golden Week is around the end of the month right?)
That's not a secret. There are numbers since 1998.10.12
Bonus: After 60 weeks PS1 - 1.653.000
Numbers back to 1996 in this thread.
Good catch. 1997 PS1 numbers don't match those I have but maybe Famitsu did adjustments later.
I don't have any issues from 1997 to compare, but;
1997 01 {1996.12.30 - 1997.01.05} 190.246
1997 02 {1997.01.06 - 1997.01.12} 136.465
1997 03 {1997.01.13 - 1997.01.19} 93.554
1997 04 {1997.01.20 - 1997.01.26} 98.797
1997 05 {1997.01.27 - 1997.02.02} 178.997
1997 06 {1997.02.03 - 1997.02.09} 131.587

Numbers back to 1996 in this thread.
First 9 weeks of 1997 for PS.

Aren't Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen Original Generations, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Masou Kishin III - Pride of Justice and Dai-3-Ji Super Robot Taisen Z Jigoku hen PS3 SRPGs as well? They sold way more than any other Disgaea entry on PS3.
Can anyone confirm that PS1 first day shipment was 100k which sold out, second shipment was 50k and LTD shipment as of Jan 1st was 300k.
?
After adjustments Famitsu has PS first month sales {1994.12.03 - 1995.01.01} at 280k so it's propably correct.
There are monthly sales for PS1 from 1994 to 1996.
I don't have my database available right now but I think I had posted them some months (years?) ago in these threads. It was FFVII connected and how PS1 took off after its release.
Do these numbers include digital downloads? I imagine digital downloads must be pretty big in Japan considering they've got way better internet than NA.
Mario Party 10 low limit will be at least 300k.
I wonder what the PS4's baseline will be. I'm thinking 18k optimistically and 10k pessimistically.
Speaking of portable versions, didn't NISA claim Disgaea 5 wouldn't be ported to Vita because of tech limitations? I could be wrong, but if true, that would certainly hurt financially.
One thing that has annoyed me about the past console releases are the pricey DLC. I admit I spent a fair amount of cash on D3 DLC and to a lesser extent D4. It really did make sense for many to hold off for the Vita version. Plus SRPGs tend to be more suitable for portable systems. I also agree that graphics hurt sales some, but I would think the lack of any major changes in the last few games have been a bigger factor.
Looking forward to seeing how Monster Hunter Stories performs (http://mh-stories.jp/)

Any idea why? They worth almost 2x NIS now
CAVE Interactive CO LTD 6.98B yen
NIPPON ICHI SOFTWARE INC 3.80B yen
Really? Wouldn't that be remarkably strong considering the 3DS game (Island Tour) only got to like 500K?

yeah and i would also argue that Valkyria Chronicles is one, as well as these agarest games or even the xcom games
Wait, you're serious about MP10 reaching 300k?
Isn't that a bit much, even with legs? Unless it gets bundled or something

Might be the same people that hate/dislike every MH that isn't on their favorite system so I wouldn't read too much into it. We agreed that there probably won't be a MH5 yet and it won't be on 3DS, so some people expected/hoped for a Vita/PS4 game before MH5 hits.why are so many people hating it? Didn't expect those dislikes.
