Yeah, I keep hearing and reading this and I think it's high time I found out.

Ultimately if it seems interesting to you, you're only going to know if you'll like it if you try it yourself. I heard all the same things, the constant praise, and was glad the remaster came out so I could finally try it. I didn't like it at all. I think there are some real fundamental problems with a lot of the design. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Dread is fantastic though.

That sounds great to me. I love scanning stuff in games to find out more about the lore or what have you, puzzling solving as well. It's not a straight up shooter at all, and I like that. Not that there's anything wrong with a shooter, I love those too. But I love exploring in games, finding stuff etc.




Aight. It's settled then. This week I'm getting it.

I just need to decide for myself if I should go with easy or just normal difficulty. I always go with normal.

Go normal, and enjoy the ride. The game released in 2002 and it feels like it's barely aged a day. It was one of the best looking games on GCN and gameplay is timeless, but that control update for dual analog basically immortalized it. There is one section in the game halfway through that involves a lot of backtracking, and one part near the end. Aside from a couple rooms that lock you inside until you kill all the enemies and ONE specific segment that is a long trek, you can very quickly and easily traverse Tallon IV.

I have a hard time choosing between Metroid Prime and Hollow Knight for best metroidvania of all time, they each have a different take on it and being 2D vs 3D it really changes the game. Wish there were more 3D metroidvanias, they are in short supply.

Bought it! Now I wait for the temperature to get normal here again so I can play this badboy on the QD-OLED. I'm quite looking forward to finally experiencing this.

As much I’ve loved revisiting this world, I can’t say that stomaching the backtracking is any easier now than it was back in the day. I get that that it’s part of the formula, but god damn.

That said, this really puts other remasters to shame.

Just jumped into this today. I know there are four control profiles already, but I wish there was one more, or at least the ability to turn gyroscope on for Dual Analogue mode. Using tank controls in Blended is just too weird (though I know that's what the original was like). I could go back to the Wii control scheme, but I'm guessing the gyro doesn't have the accuracy of the Wii pointer, that and I'd rather not try to hold one itty, bitty Joycon in each hand.

either Prime 1 or Zero Mission(remake of the first Metroid) are great games to start the series. none are particularly story heavy so don't worry about missing that stuff, but the plot matters to the fans who follow the timeline

so story wise would be something like

Zero Mission ->Prime series->Samus Returns->Super Metroid->Metroid Fusion->Metroid Dread

I recommend playing Dread later, as its the 'grand finale' of the 2D series

You can do this, it’s just not explained well. Enable dual analog controls, then go down to the camera setting in controls & options. There you can switch to Gyro + Stick. After that you go down to Lock-On Free Aim and switch the setting to Both to get the full feeling of a Dual analog stick + gyro combination in a Metroid Prime game.

The only caveat is that the enemies are not balanced for this control scheme, so you miss a lot of the interesting fights Corruption had because they developed the entire game around lock-on free aim and that style of gameplay.

I sincerely hope they take that same train of thought with Beyond because the combat in Corruption is miles above most other First Person games.
