Microsoft Flight Simulator Has Been Played By Over 15 Million players

It is a game whose user base is on PC. But it is clear that the release on console and Gamepass has helped it have more visibility among other types of audiences.

On the other hand, the information coming from MFS2024 is exceptional. Little by little it is going from being a game about flying airplanes to a game with a lot of variety and entertaining for more people.

With all due respect, half of those people launched and then deleted the game when they saw installation speeds and sizes in a separate downloader. A lot of who's left saw their AI-generated house/crashed into boss' house/landed on Epstein Island and hit the same 'delete' button.

MSFS is a healthy sim game with an active community (I've clocked 1100+ hours already) but this numbers boasting is simply useless, especially since there's literally nothing to do here if you're not into the whole simulation shenanigans like talking with radio tower and maintaining the air discipline.

Flight Sim dudes ar wild. Literally waking up several times in the middle of the night to check how their 12 hour real-time flight is going. Probably use comms to communicate with virtual passengers and all.

That's a bit unfair. Even if you just give each discovery flight a once over, complete the top gun dlc, try put a bush trip, fly the Halo Pelican, and take a trip in the Dune ornithopter you are looking at 15 - 20 hours of playtime without ever really touching the 'sim' part of the game.

You need to actually love plains (like me) to re-download the dreaded MSFS package through their horrible client to see Top Gun DLC or Dune DLC.

It is a very impressive game. I have a flight stick with pedals and it is a neat experience.

Considering that they it seems like they will allow moving on foot now in the game, the potential of what they can add is immense. Imagine if they revived stuff like Train Simulator and others based on the in game world. Also cool that the CEO of Asobo seems to be a personal fan of the flight sim.

They really should partner with some countries and government to bring in real interiors of the airports and stuff.

Truly an amazing game - I still say its one of the landmark releases in gaming history.
Pretty unbelievable you can just fly anywhere.
Ive spent the past couple years - just touring a different point in there world around once a month.

But - it must be said - as a console experience - the update system is complete trash tier junk.
Just to keep up with updates after a short break is a multi hour process/headache.
Im not even sure of the way around it for a game like this - but this must somehow be improved in the future.

Yeah the tech behind this is absolutely phenomenal. The real time weather stuff is just well amazing.

People mock engagement numbers for a reason.

Sorry it's your favorite plastic box being affected in this scenario. Maybe next time it will be the evil plastic box we can mock, fingers crossed
My pc is fine thanks for asking.

Hell yeah! I have a standard route from ESKK(Karlskoga Airport) to KLGA(LaGuardia New York) and i do all preflight and takeoff, and then ap and go down to the lake and fish or something, then back and do the landingcheklists and then the landing and everything until the plane is dark:)

For sure. I tried to fly in and around the many hurricanes that hit the states the past couple years.
So wild and hard to believe is even possible in a 'videogame'.

I hope the new version gets us closer to something equivalent to a modern Pilotwings with the missions / jobs part. I want to see how the game transitions from the ground rendered when you fly to ground detailed enough for the missions. This might be the ultimate chill experience.

At least it can put to rest the old dumb “Google Maps” / “nothing to do” arguments once and for all.

I think 2 does have "jobs" but its a simulation at heart.

Thing is flying a 747 from London to Tokyo at 35000ft is boring as shit unless you like flying in a straight line. Cool you can do that though.

I stick it on in the background will im doing other stuff, it looks incredible mostly.

I literally have no idea lol, genuinely asking, I thought you played it. I haven't put time into these flight sim games.

Ah....ok. I don't know either. Found the page for it and doesn't look like it does.

The Top Gun add-on they put out doesn't do combat?
Nope. It has really cool missions and planes though.

Yeah I’m more interested in the helicopter rescue missions and firefighting. Commercial flight seems a bit less interesting and you can do that already.

its a thread about flight sim engagement numbers i was curious if youve been engaged.
Well I'm sure my cursor has gone over the tile a few times on my gamepass so I guess technically I have been engaged. Count me as one of the 15 mil engagers

To be fair, this headline could get another million players to buy/try it. Myself included.

Yea the only thing better than spending $14.99 for a crappy airport salad after my anus gets probed by TSA is to do it virtually

If you are into flight sims this is probably best MS Studios game over last several years.

The actual flying and environmental details are top notch . I kind of suck and crash all the time but I don’t care 😁.

I use a flight stick and pedals to fly, and need to get a better setup, which one of the things on the list this summer. But overall flying above the clouds with some cool music on and sunlight hitting just right is an amazingly chill feeling.

I simply love flying around the world in different airplanes while listening to music. I have hundreds of hours in this game and I haven't played a single mission. I just fly.
It's the main reason I turn on my Series X.

So much shitposting
But it's true. Claiming "number of people who played our game" is quite literally meaningless in the age of subscriptions and "free" games. If they really want to boast, they need to make it more specific. "15 million people have crossed the pacific", "15 million perfect landings", or something of that nature. Counting all users who saw it on gamepass and clicked "play" is just marketing horseshit.

No one is suggesting the game is not good or not worth playing. It's the constant stream of marketing trash posts that Microsoft seems to make, along with their professed use of "engagement" metrics.
