$200 for a video game (if you want all the content). Yeah, nah.
Sounds like you haven't seen how much flight sims normally cost!

The most expensive edition isn't "all the content", it's the base game with some extra aircraft, many of which were add-ons for the 2020 version.

They supported the 2020 version with a ton of free upgrades that (in other sims) were traditionally supplied by third-party companies, and would have cost many $100s. Support for the last one was so good, I wouldn't advise getting anything other than the basic version for now. I got the premium version of 2020, and the bonus content was quickly swamped by all the free add-ons.

Got to play a little bit on my iPad and it looked great, much nicer UI than previous. Restarted just to see how long subsequent boots would take and ended up in a queue. Hope this will only last a few days at most.

In my company we're also switch to a MS cloud service and it is painful as hell. No normal work any more possible!

Since one year my company struggles with that. No I didn't see FS2024 in good state forever. I don't believe this tech solution is solid.

Any way to change this?
Saw this on a steam review, not sure if its legit:

Windows users are recommended to use mklink to move your game directory to another drive to free up C drive space.
Here are the steps:

1. Open the game save directory: C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and move the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 folder to your desired location. I moved it directly to D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

2. Make sure the file copying is complete and delete the original Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 folder.

3. Run cmd as administrator and run the following code:
mklink /j "-original address" "-new address"
Here is my example: "***" needs to be replaced with the specific name according to the actual username.
mklink /j "C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024" "D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024"

Just like 2020, there's no doubt the 2024 experience will be awesome soon. But this launch.. Didn't they kinda promise it would go well this time..?

I even cared enough to get the Aviator Edition, so why the fuck am I in a queue.

Yeah, and I say this as a gamepass scrub, but they should have prioritized people who paid somehow.

You guys should hire someone who know what they're doing. I've been deploying to Azure at enterprise scale since 2017 and it's been solid.

Played on Series X with 120 hz and VRR but there is a lot of screen tearing in cockpit view and while walking around. Third person view is much better and smoother. Seems to be bad pop in compared to FS2020.

I'm really disappointed that there is no unlocked fps mode like in FS2020...hopefully they will add it in the future.

Has anyone actually got in to the game after getting the login queue message? I'm not convinced it is queuing anything.

I was thinking to wait till next year, after I finally get around to having some time and doing PC and controller upgrades. And who knows, the queue might settle down by then.

I played a bit earlier in the day, performance is great and DLSS and frame gen make a huge difference. I didn't really dig into the challenges but I like the variety of planes to pilot.

It definitely feels like a polished up version of 2020 with a bunch of new content but that's not a bad thing.

Wait, I was about to go to bed because I have to get up in 4.5 hours, wake up the kids and go to work, and now suddenly I got in and flying after all these hours in queue :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I can't get my joystick controls to map and work. the game keeps defaulting to keyboard and mouse controls in gameplay for some reason, never had this issue with MSFS 2020.

I stayed in the loading screen for like 2 hours before I was able to get in play for a few minutes.

The launch has been a disaster so far and I wish I had waited a while before buying.

This is the last time I buy an MS game at launch lol especially one that requires servers to work like MSFS 2024.

They had to say something on their YouTube channel:

TLDR: they have a server cache that is completely failing under load. They had only simulated a load test of 200,000 and then assumed it would be fine in real life. Missing content for those who DO get in is explained too (same cause)

How in a baboons ass crack do you only test for 200,000 users when you know for a fact the first game had a bigger launch than that, and this one would have a comparable or even larger one? Modern game developers are absolutely on one.

I got in finally. Had a few flights and this is definitely a huge advance on 2020 graphically. Cars driving around at night looks so cool.
Once the servers stop sucking balls this is going to be amazing. I am now currently stuck.on trying to enter a discovery flight of London. No back button and I dare not quit.

On the contrary, it should be dramatically improved (unless everything we've heard is a lie of course, could be..).

- Install size is now only a third of 2020's
- Not only is the install size a third of 2020, now 2024 is also multithreaded (most of the install and update time in 2020 was due to the process of the CPU working on decompressing downloaded files)
- They've completely reworked the whole process exactly because they got so many complaints about it.

50GB :)
oh wow that's a lot better than i expected 👍

So I managed to get in to my London flight. At first it was the lowest quality of lowest quality before the cloud data came in, but surprisingly all the hand modeled buildings were there instantly so they must be in the on disk install. There are still some 'bombed out' buildings but few and far between.

So is there any reason they insist on streaming the game to you through the cloud instead of letting you download everything even if it's 4 TB or something

You can optionally set local caches on your drive for areas/regions.. Same as 2020. You can also install add-ons locally.

Yep. And to those who think this is somehow technically negated by the cloud congestion at launch. It isn't, separate issue. Once the Azure cloud settles it will hopefully be blissful times ahead.

Edit: damn double post, was supposed to edit...

It costs more money to add more. Simple!

I might give this game a try next time, if I can spare the time. Seems excellent.

For me the game starts now without problems this morning, after I saw only a login queue yesterday night. That was a bit frustrating....yep.

Well, I'm past the login screen, too bad that London is not loading for me at all. I'm looking at this screen for 10 minutes now.

UPD:
OK, London is straight-up fire. My god, this launch is a dumpster fire.
