New Astro Bot update today: Five new levels and Pro update!

I loved the game and got the platinum, but I haven't been back since.
How are the new levels and bots?
Anyone interesting, special, cool, rare, etc.?

How do you access these levels? After you beat it?

The earlier set of Speedrun levels you needed to have completed it. I imagine that's still the case.

This time there are no birdies so all you have to do is complete the level to get the bot. I got 42 seconds... you can do better than that for sure.

I hit a top 200 time on the New level.

They might as well release an expansion at this point if they are going to keep shadow dropping new levels.

That would be nice indeed.

Astro Bot have no problem reaching locked 60 fps because art direction, so for a plataform like that at locked 120fps would be amazing, maybe one of the first.

It ain't gonna do locked 120, but a 90FPS+ VRR mode should certainly be possible. Legit shocking Pro is just getting reduced dynamic resolution. Honestly it's probably cause of the time trials, 120Hz would probably be an advantage.

Checking this out on the PS5 Pro now, I'm not sure if the Pro support update is live, cause it looks the same to me. But i haven't played it in months so maybe I'm wrong.
It's still the same resolution, it just doesn't scale down anymore in certain busy areas. Considering the game already looks so sharp and polished, it's probably something you would have hardly noticed during gameplay anyway. Like it's cool they made it slightly better, better than not at all, but the difference is not really going to be noticeable.

Yeah, they'd have to add something like Ray Tracing to truly show any sort of difference that most people will notice

That said, I booted it up and definitely noticed a difference. Objects in the distance look sharper.

looks so damn sharp and clean

Just a resolution boost? Seems like it is just maxing out the dynamic res, did it had dynamic res on base PS5? Anyway, amazing that they keep updating it with more levels.

I had a quick blast last night and I did notice that it looked sharper, and that the reflective surfaces seemed more pronounced too. One of the snow levels is surrounded by an ocean and I was struck by how nice it looked. On top of this, it’s easy to see that all of the small movable objects have much better definition, so it looks even better when you’re moving through them.

Took me way too long to complete this one. It was definitely harder but I must have had a lot of ring rust as hadn’t played since the winter level

If the game originally had a dynamic res up to 4k and the pro hardware is powerful enough to always run it at 4k as seen after the patch, wouldn't it have run at 4k anyway without the patch?

On comparisons screenshots I did notice the game is now quite sharper on Pro.

The game already had a DRS max of 4K. They must have optimized the game to better use the Pro hardware. It means games using boost mode could run better with an actual Pro patch and optimizations. For instance Pro has double the L0 and L1 cache. Using boost mode the games obviously wouldn't properly use the added caches. With optimization they could make the game use the added cache, and significantly improve performance, here the resolution.

Hope the Pro update doesn’t mean that the new levels won’t run bad on normal PS5 again. The winter world had horrible framerate on base PS5.

Thrust or Bust is legit. I played it for like an hour and only made it 4 or 5 times.

Yup. I must've died 25+ times before i beat the level. Then went onto die 80+ times just i could get a sub 45 seconds run. But, you're back in action so fast that you feel like you can do better each time you fail.

Even though games like Astro Bot involve trial and error it never feels like its wasting your time. Other games that do the same either don't let you manually restart or it takes you 10-15 seconds or sometimes even longer (FF XV on PS4) to redo something again.

For fuck sake. I left my copy of this game at my brother's place, so he could play and complete the game with my nephew. I missed all these updates since the Christmas and speedrunning maps.
Hurry up my brother, I want my game back.

And yet no vr support... Sony should be sued for advertising ps vr2 and then dropping it like a rock. What a scam.
I'm glad I didn't got one.

The nicest person on this forum
I’m liking these new challenge levels way more than time attack ones we got before.

Nice to see Dark Cloud
