For all I know it could be the prev version of the same MSFT devkit. I remember strong rumors that "next xbox" is 9 tf. Even from people who don't talk shit.

Now that game brings back memories. The first one was one of my favourite games back in the day. I feel they could have done much better with this remake.

Gavin Stevens Gavin Stevens has been saying something similar too regarding RDNA2, that the consoles are like RDNA1.5 ish

That's just a marketing strategy to build hype. Slowly release bits of information every few weeks until you have an actual event where you disclose all the details and show stuff. I don't think it's weird that they haven't shown games yet, and I wouldn't hyperbole it into Microsoft having no games.

Maybe that's just "ready", or something Nintendo related, but I wouldn't care about these riddles if I was you. You'll know when they want you to know. It's fun that insiders share information with us, but these riddles are just attention seeking methods, and I would ignore it if I was you.

Hi everybody. Been following this thread for a while and all the buzz from the PS5 / Xbox has led me to finally create an account in Neogaf.

First and foremost, I am not an insider, nor I claim to know anything regarding the new generation of consoles. I'm merely providing a comment based on my software background. I currently work for a software developer not related to game dev, even though I have one contact in Rockstar (no, no inside info from them). What I do know is about software and hardware development cycles, and how things work in the background, so I do hope my experience provides some context to some of the supposed leaks we've been seeing for a while.

I'd like to outline what should be relatively simple to understand, but seems to be causing some confusion across a few members in this thread: Nothing is set in stone. Yes, it is true that most software and hardware will have long development cycles, especially the later, but one must consider a few things:

1. Lot's of testing takes place
2. Goals are more likely to change early in development / prototyping
3. Refinements occur during the whole development lifecycle.

With that said, I believe the GitHub leak is true, however it does not tell the full story. The unit listed in those leaks shows a 9.2TF chip with no Ray Tracing, however we know now that a) the PS5 has Ray Tracking and b) It's hardware based, per Sony's previous reveal. This, coupled with AMD's own product roadmap that lists HW RT being an RDNA2 capability, leads me to believe that the PS5 chip is not the same Sony is working with now.

I think it's way more likely that Sony was testing regression to clear up if HW emulation would be feasible and wasn't even testing the new RT implementation, with Oberon likely being a proof of concept. We were talking about a 1/2/3 ratio between CU and PS4/PS4pro/PS5, but it actually would make sense that some CU's were disabled and that the ration is 1/2/4.

Just my 2 cents, please don't fight over this stuff. It's consoles, games, and I'm sure we'll have two "equally" powered consoles that will provide us with amazing content for the next few years.

Well apparently the PlayStation 5 was/is that 9.2 Teraflops which we've seen popping up left and right now and the Xbox was speculated as being in the mid to upper 8 Teraflop range which has credence because the devkits at the time were just cobbled together as noted numerous times but things might change.

This would also give credence to all the rumors that followed where it was said that they were "close in performance".

Microsoft coming out at 12 Teraflops was that surprise, the devkits which were circulating were severely preliminary which created the narrative of them being like minded systems. They're not.

The surprise is related to the TGAs announcement it has nothing to do with devkits.
Matt on era already said it would be stupid to mislead your partners (studios and publishers) that are making videogames to your platform without the "real specs" just because MS wanted to suprise Sony.
IIRC his words were something like: "that's pretty silly", "devs are given target specs when they 1st receive devkits".

We know for a fact that MS target was already 12 TF, Albert Penello confirmed it on era last week.
We've also been hearing that sony console is slightly ahead of XSX since E3 last year, so that means they're close in power even if MS took the lead or something.

People wanting a 3 TF difference between them are going to have an hard time. I'll say what I've been saying for a while, both will be within 15% of each other at max, which at the end is not a significant difference.
