If Sonys intention has been to keep to the $399 budget then I think this will put some strain on Microsoft.

1. MS could price the xsx at $450, but I think they will suffer a pretty heavy loss per console sold, Sony would be bleeding them as there will be a fixed budget / operating cost and the other departments will be looking at just how much loss the xbox produces.

2. MS could price the xsx at $500 or $600 in both cases the loss will be far less or it may even make profit on each unit sold, but the sales will be far weaker and its almost guaranteed Sony will outsell them at $100 or $200 price difference.

What if MS pulls off the impossible and puts the XsX out at $399 alongside the PS5?

The only ones that were even close were the 9.2 to 10~ and there were very few of them.

These SSDs have to provide something other than fast load times for them to be worth the increase in cost... if people are so impatient they can't wait 10-30 seconds for a level to load then I don't know what to tell them.

A decrease in loading times is welcome, but I don't want to pay an extra $50 - $100 for it.

as for now stands:
cpu is 2.8 % faster in xsex
gpu is 15% better in xsex
ram size are the same but bandwidth is 50% higher for xsex(which is crazy)
ssd is 56.4% faster for ps5(this is also crazy)
ray tracing is 15.6% better in xsex

clearly these machines should seperate 100$ if not i think sony is in big trouble unless they have some crazy exclussives anyway i'm still buying ps5 because of exclussives. but yea looks like sony cheapen out for ps5 and lost power advantage on paper, though real performance is unknown? my only hope for ps5 that it will not look like a mini fridge and doesn't exceed 450$.

I think they will be pretty close to eachother in price. Sonys ssd, cooling (wich works) and new ds5 will drive up the price of ps5. Xbox is a monster so I asume it will cost alot. My guess would be at best 499$ for both or at worst 599$.

The closet speculators were anyone believing the original 9.2tf Oberon leak, which in that chart goes back to a Digital Foundry article from April 2019! So almost a year old. The data was right there, but few people believed it.

All Sony did the past 12 months is figure out how to upclock the gpu 10% to get to 2.23ghz --> 10.3tf. If they didn't there's the 9.2tf.

And you can tell the entire PS5 structure can't even handle that gpu boost all the time, since there is that weird balancing cpu/gpu thing it's got to do because it cant sustain the cpu at 3.5 ghz, and gpu at 2.23 ghz 100% of the time.

It looks like they were able to adjust the gpu clock speed to a high max speed, in return for having the system automatically adjust the cpu downward if both cpu and gpu are trying to max each other out too much............. or at least something along those lines.

Each of the 12 channels feeds its own flash die which gives us roughly 68.75GB storage per die totaling 825GB in capacity. I'm guessing they stopped at 12 because it satisfied their bandwidth goals and still provides adequate enough total storage capacity, especially considering the redundancy of assets in game files will be drastically reduced.

They definitely should have worded it better, most people think it will come as advertised as 825GB, we know when you buy storage lets say 1TB they never come with exactly 1TBs free, I have a 512GB SSD but in reality it's about 480GBs that I can actually use.

PS5 $400 and SeX $500 seems like the best bet to me.

More interesting is who is going to reveal price first? I think MS is going to wait it out, and set the price at PS5 + $100. But who knows.

Haven't we already established that there is a shortage of flash memory, so prices will be sky high this year? Given that, and the fact that Cerny didn't reveal the price of the PS5, I'm guessing it will be expensive if launch this year (closer to $600 expensive). Now if Sony some how can delay the launch till next year, citing the Coronavirus pandemic putting a component supply chain constraint or something similar, then perhaps the PS5 will launch at $499 or even at $550.

Now that we have specs and info on both new consoles... I think they both sound kind of cool. Xbox is going for max power and PlayStation seems to be aiming for something a bit weaker but a lot faster. It's interesting to see two different approaches. Like two performance engines tuned in different ways. I look forward to getting a first look at actual next gen gameplay.

It is disappointing that Sony haven't confirmed full backwards compatibility for at least PS4 titles. I'm someone who frequently returns to older games like Mass Effect. I'm pretty certain that I am going to want to replay Uncharted 4, for example, years from now. Hopefully they sort that out because MS are making all the right moves in that area, even to the point of automatically upgrading old titles at system level in their consoles. Which is just awesome.

I need to see some games now. Next gen eye candy. But I think it will still be quite a wait for that.

Looks like a Ray traced reflections demo...in an alternate dimension where everything is made from Diet Pepsi cans.

On the hardware side not even upset it puts them in a pretty shit position for the entire generation though. They will be playing catch up and their is no sauce created that can span that gulf. XSeX is definitely more powerful. Also clearing up a bunch of bullshit Ive read PSV does constantly run in boost mode but I don't think that is a good thing. (Own Opinion) Cant imagine sustaining that high a clock speed is going to be quiet after hours of playing anything. Never cared who won will still be getting both systems for exclusives but XSeX should be the multiplat king.

You can direct get assets from SSD to GPU processing without need load into the RAM.
Besides that it is a new thing so devs have to discover how useful it will be.

I’m very excited to see how devs can envolve the game with these new tools.

How is Sony shit at marketing if they have such a commanding lead? They’ve done several things that have benefited such as getting sponsorship of Champions League in Europe, actually devoting more marketing dollars to Europe in general, did better advertising of their tentpole titles, managed to get the marketing rights for Call of Duty away from MS, etc. I’d say they’ve done well. People are just saying they suck because they watched a technical dive meant for developers and assumed it was supposed to be like E3 with games and what not.
