Next-Gen PS5 & XSX |OT| Console tEch threaD

Ok guys, serious speculation now ok??

AMD needs to fully announce the RDNA 2 gpus and if they really have the so called Nvidia killer, they need to do it fast before RTX 3000 pre orders start going up. That's the PC space equivalent of the Sony vs MS stand off.

Nvidia showed their hand, AMD needs to go next. We know the consoles are out in November and RTX should be showing up on stores by October (pre orders aren't live yet).

So this to me means we're realistically looking at 2nd week of October (the latest) for some big AMD messaging to appear, and to punchline it, gag order on console deep dives is lifted. This should give 1 solid month for console pre-orders and allocate stock accordingly for a mid November global release.
Big question now is on how AMD will counter Nvidia. Is it going to be as performance per watt due to TSMC's most efficient node? Are they taking the performance crown? Possibly the cost/performance ratio is really good and, if so, maybe it means the new consoles will cost less than $600 actually :)

So yeah, my prediction is mid October for full deep dive, Cerny pt 2.

One fake Insider is going to guess the date of the next PS5 video. Then forever more that fake Insider is going to have people saying 'but he leaked the PS5 video'.

Here is my shot at glory.

Next PS5 event will be on Sep 11th, although date is currently subject to change. It will include an overview of the UI, Gameplay of launch window titles. There will also be an old franchise reborn that will make people very happy.

Mark Cerny (as he enters the stage in 'The Road to PS5'): "There'll be *plenty*of chances to show games for the PS5 this year ..."

You sure, Mark?

I mean, like, really sure? Cause it's been 6 months and you've literally shown us about an hour and a half of PS5 games.

Both Sony and MS need to chill the fuck out with this blinking contest. It was cute at first, but now it's just stupid. Just show something, anything, next-gen related. That goes for both of you.

Can anyone remeber the situation before the Playstation 4 release?

E3 2012 actually happened for a start. So we had prices and launch dates then.
This year, that hasn't happened, and now Sony and Microsoft are seeing who's gonna blink first.

Personally I don't care. Most smartphones don't get anything about them revealed until a few weeks before they're available to buy from retailers. Why should consoles be any different? We know the specs, and we've seen a taster of what the software is going to be like around launch. If they have more to say, they'll say it when they want to.

No idea why everyone is in such a hurry to go and pre-order either console tbh. But alas.

For sure, there was an event on February 2013 where Sony showed some games, specs, and the controller. It was followed by the console and price reveal at E3 2013. I preordered 2 consoles on June 2013 but I don’t remember if it was during E3 or later.

So, by June 2013 we already had the consoles on preorder and knew which games were going to be released in day 1.

Man, this poor ass marketing for the ps5 is killing me. I almost feel like not wanting to pre-order the console, but i still want it too much so that wouldn't be possible :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I don't get Sony, they KNOW they got the upperhand, why not take advantage of that? They literally could treat us with ui demonstrations, more game announcements, price and preorder and everyone would go nuts.

It can't be about sony being afraid of xbox, they pretty much won the nextgen start (atleast). Is this really just a marketing ploy? Or is there something behind the curtains making it difficult?

Exactly man!

Lmao, let's be real, what matters for a console is to deliver once it's out from beginning of the cycle to the end, if they announce the price 2 month or a month before release if won't change shit, someone buy something because of interest and quality, not because of "when they give the release date, price and preorders".

I don't care about price, I know about what it will cost and about when they will launch.

I am tired of teasing us for months and months of how great next gen gaming is, start showing me stuff, stop sitting on it.

So many comments about Price and Pre-orders... I'm already prepared to see $599. I want to see all the things they have been holding back. I'm getting concerned this isn't just about measuring sticks anymore.

You guys think it will $100 more with only difference being a disc drive?

Personally, I don't think so. At all. The disc drive's probably one of the cheapest parts in the thing. Digital edition will be $50 cheaper max unless Sony's ballsy enough to take a huge loss just for that model.

Remember it isnt just the cost of the drive. You have to remember the additional revenue Sony will get through people being forced to buy digital games through the PSN. That will get them a significant amount of extra income for each digital edition sold.

Its basic math. They cut out used games, all 3rd party retailers, and force all games to be bought from the PS5 digital store. Sony get 30% of every game bought on their store.

Sony essentially lose money every time someone buys a physical Sony published game from Amazon because Sony had to print that disc, ship it, and then give Amazon a cut of the revenue.

Per digital console, Sony would make hundreds more in profit over the console lifetime. A $100 discount is easily worth it.

I don't think that it would be a huge loss because they would get the difference through the PS Store pretty quick. Digital games are more expensive than disks and Sony gets a lot of % from the digital sales.

Edit: Double beaten. :'(

The PS5 show will come when it's ready. I'm impatient too, but it's coming, and it's not like the PS5 will be out next week, it's like Mid Nov to December so there's still time, but sure i want some news Asap just like everyone but i've faith when time comes it's gonna deliver, and "DELIVER" is the only thing that matter in the end of the day.

Hardware price dont matter in long run ;)

PSN games purchase and PS plus is whats matter the most.

So yeah i dont expect anything else than 100$ difference between these two SKUs.

I understand your point but for me personally so much teasing begins to work in the reverse for me.

Keeping it up and eventually trolling people doesn't work for me.

I am 100% a Sony fan but its getting easier and easier for me to not buy the PS5 especially with the timing of the 3080.

Maybe its just me but you can only tease me for so long before it backfires and the backfire is getting very close.

True points. I did forget Sony gets a bigger cut through digital sales.

If nothing else, it doesn’t inspire much confidence when a manufacturer keeps delaying and delaying information about their product, way beyond what’s happened previously.

Suggests behind the scenes issues of one sort or another. None of them good.

I still think a delay could be on the cards.

I think they want to show off how fast the UI is, more games, and then announce price all at once. If AMD is holding them back, then that’s obviously incredibly frustrating. But I really think the general public will be blown away by how fast the UI is and how you can just jump into a game. That to the average consumer will fill next-gen. Imagine them showing someone clicking on a friend who’s in a Call of Duty match and immediately jumping right in.. Then they announce price right after a huge UI and game montage. That’s the most compelling way to announce it to me. I wouldn’t care if they were all separate, but Sony probably wants to make a big splash when they reveal price.

Sony, MicroSoft, stop blue-balling us and let us lock our pre-orders in already so we don't have to worry that we won't be getting that shit at launch.
DO IT, PUSSIES!

I heard they aren't going to do a "sales" price. It's one of those call us for a quote and we'll talk deals, press 1 to submit your IRS numbers ...

I know this isn't really the correct thread but I am lazy and don't want to make one. Does anyone stream on here?
Do you have either of these, if you have tried both which do you prefer?
Razer Ripsaw HD or Elgato HD60 S+

October?!! People are now talking about Sony giving us info in OCTOBER?!

You know, I was going to use my time machine to go and look at dinosaurs, but I think I'll just nip forward a few months, find out all the PS5 details and come back.

Hold my cuppa*, chaps, back in a tick ...

Its not just a cut. There is literally no other way to use the console. A digital only console is Sony's dream.

No physical games = no used games. Sony doesn't get ANY money from used games. They can eliminate the 1 way to buy games currently that they make no money on.

You can, in theory, only buy used games for PS4. Sony would make $0 from you on software even if you bought a 100 used games over 7 years. The only money of yours they would ever get is from buying the console itself.

With a digital only console, they guarantee ALL games are sold by them.

Guaranteed lifetime game sales Sony gets a cut of, per every PS4 sold - ZERO.
Guaranteed lifetime game sales Sony gets a cut of, per every PS5 DE sold - ALL GAMES.

While it really does seem like something is up right now I'm thinking Sony are being a little cocky with the subtle trolling we're seeing on Twitter. I'm thinking when they do finally start talking/reveal price it will be on the good end. I just can't see this drawn out game of chicken this close to release is because they are going to be higher priced than expected or because they have "bad" news they want keep to themselves as long as possible.

You getting the digital or Standart edtiton?

I'm a bit concerned about the Standart one...

In all seriousness I'm not sure. I'm a cheap ass bastard by nature and buy digital almost always anyway, but the thought of not being able to pickup a game on ebay or at a garage sale does give pause.
