It only makes sense that Sony is the one that's willing to lose $100 per console. MS has shown that they aren't willing to with the Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One SAD.

Most multi-plats are on PC, weak hardware is everywhere there. But, I guess they don't bother to optimize for the lower cards on PC.

He didn't just hint at it, he straight up claimed it was loud, which isn't surprising at all since Sony has a history of loud consoles. It would be extremely surprising if Lockhart ends up being loud. Series X is already confirmed to be whisper quiet.

Yea.. I find it hard to swallow that Microsoft, who has consistently made super quiet consoles since xbox one, is suddenly now making a really loud lower end next gen console. Also, the xbox one x dev kit served as a dev kit for practically all xbox one era consoles. Microsoft designed it that way due to the ability in place to target all the systems from just the one dev kit and their toolset is designed that way. Why send a second dev kit for lockhart when they can simply utilize the one series x dev kit using the same exact method (architectures between the two are practically identical in every way with the exception of ram and GPU power). Hell, if xbox one x dev kits could simulate performance for xbox one s and og xbox one, why can't the series x dev kit also do the same?

I want to start with saying that I agree with what you're saying. I can see why the cheaper console could in theory be loud though. Microsoft may put less money in the cooling aspects of the console, thus making it hotter and louder. In the end though, I feel that its the playstation that will be the loudest of the 3 consoles.

Exactly, the very premise itself that all of a sudden now this is a problem is just plain bizarre, and I really hope nobody buys it, but.. yea. Did weak PCs hold back Metro Exodus or control? There are literally levels to this stuff and there will continue to be well into the next two console generations. PCs and consoles being too weak to explore RT didn't stop a significant investment in getting Ray Tracing working on Metro Exodus and Control.

These are all old leaks. PS5 was said to be slightly more powerful than SX. So much so that Matt (reliable insider that used to post here) would guess that it's going to be stronger in the end.

Will have to see. They're using a far more efficient architecture all around with a far more efficient node process, and are even running lower tflops than Xbox One X. I see it being fairly quiet. They're already saving a lot of money on the build already by going lower in the specs. They will have decent cooling to keep it quiet also, I'm sure.

Won't contest any of this because these are all good points and do factor into a drive's overall real-world performance metrics. I'll have to read reviews on the Gigabyte drive in question, but one other thing I"ll add is that Cerny could've still been technically right if he's referring to that speed in terms of game software using it.
It's not a big secret that vast majority of PC games aren't programmed to use SSDs to their full capability. In fact Star Citizen is the first real example I can think of, but even they are limited by what Windows will allow them to do in terms of virtual memory mapping, and the fact they can't rely on a single standardized software stack and block of APIs for memory access to and from the drive that could be optimized by the likes of Sony of MS for their systems since all their systems will be the same spec with the same components across millions of units.

I always believed, and still do, series x will be the clearly. stronger system. Guess we'll have to see, but it's seemingly starting to gel as if what we currently know about PS5 from specific leaks (from AMD tests) could in fact be final PS5, though I hope it isn't.
