Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360 Original) vs. Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (Series X/PS5 Remake) | Side by Side

Yeah man , I don't know how they see piss filter as being more "atmospheric" lmao
The filter isn't relevant. It is all the other stuff like key items, interactive environmental changes, projectile weapon mechanics, Rod of Trials, and encounter design.

Scene composition looks much better than the remake despite lower quality assets. Much nicer use of lighting and better color. It's a testament to how well crafted the og ninja gaidens were on the 360 rather than a dig at the remaster.

I like the art direction better in the original to be honest.

A simple port would have also been able to run at high frame rate with good resolution. From what I've been told the 120fps mode looks like ass on console and even the regular 60fps one looks soft.

That plus it being based on the sigma version deflated my excitement for this. Woll buy it when its 50% off.

Still really excited for NG4 though. I just hope it's not UE5

Futurama Buy GIF

Ninja gaiden purists are as annoying as ever ffs. Worst than the Dark souls elitists. The most insufferable fan base.
I‘ll take this as a compliment.

Now please play that 360 version on XSS/X ;)

Why do they keep screwing up this game? Just play the original. Yeesh.
The lighting is 10 times better in the original.

Thinks Microaggressions are Real
Going to wait for an hour long video telling me whether or not it's an artistic disaster before I commit.

Original is far better. The only caveat could be that you need an X1X or higher. I'd rather buy OG than play 2 Black via GP. Let alone pay 50 bucks for it. They essentially sell you the Sigma 2 part of Master Collection redone in UE5, and even compared to S2 there is some stuff removed. Granted 2 Black as far as the campaign goes is a tad better than Sigma 2. It has blood and a slightly higher enemy count. But the areas still feel off, everything has been opened already and some parts are still ghost towns.

Just buy the original. Enjoy the viscerality of it, the UT Windmill and bow, explosive kunai and the controlled chaos of the optional Tests of Valor.

The game is great but its looks were nothing special before and is nothing special now. Can't really see how the original has soul or looks far better.

So much Xbox hate around here.

Just from my perspective - as a fan of good games (of which NGII is one of the best of all time):
I bought NGII on 360 in 2008.
Ive been playing that same copy on my XB1 and SX since 2019 - at the highest possible quality.
-
That old copy that I bought nearly 20 years (that I am still able to use mind you) ago runs circles around this 2025 "remaster".
The same can be said for the OG Ninja Gaiden Black too.

Yep 2 Black had the opportunity to render it useless, I was ready to ditch it for a proper current-gen edition. But it didn't. It simply has less content, is less exhilarating and a worse mission mode (granted for OG you need to purchase it). I refunded 2 Black in fact. Because its nothing like they advertised.

Sigma 1 was always closer to NGB than Sigma 2 was to NG2, but NGB is still the better game. You don't have to endure Rachel as well. Game plays better, and no load times for everything. Its a more polished product overall.

I like hopping over enemies, beheading them and spamming the ultimates with Rachel.

I also love the new jump shot with the bow, better camera, and improved water running with Ryu. I always considered the tap A to keep water running and not being able to get out of water without something to grab onto lame in Black. The redesign of the airship lounge is also aesthetically pleasing. Only minor complaints I have are that most adventure items are removed, military area is opened up unceremoniously after reused boss battle, and ziggurat is reduced to a single room.

My favorite addition is all the wearable equipment you get by completing survival challenge areas in each chapter with different difficulties unlocking different items.

For sure some good changes. Especially the water running which was a chore in NGB trying to time it just as right as you sprint to the water. And then also not being to sprint from in the water forcing you to find dry land to do it all over again.

Shooting arrows in NGB is also super clunky especially since it is very tricky trying to figure out where your arrows are actually going to hit especially in the Blue/Red Egyptian rooms which is really the only reason that room is hard once you take out the Skeleton archers.

Maybe if they are ever able to actually port NGB to current gen, they'll be able to implement some of those.

I just finished the Alma fight in NGB and I forgot what a pain in the ass she was...lol
