Nintendo stock 52 week high trailer viewed 89 million times in under 24 hours

The bear of bad news
Nintendo officially announced Switch 2 today, showing a console that looks somewhat similar to the immensely popular Switch. When the New York Stock Exchange opened later, Nintendo‘s share price rose to $15.77, the highest point it’s reached at any point in the past year.

“Investors were afraid of another Wii U situation where Nintendo tries to experiment or over-innovate but misses what users actually demand,” Toto told us. “So there is certainly some relief in the financial community about Switch 2. For this cycle transition, investors were hoping for a more iPhone-like, iterative approach – and Nintendo certainly delivered from that perspective.”

The hopium is off the charts.

The console will outsell both the PS5 and XSX by its third year.
I’m curious to be honest what Sony are going to do. Do they continue with ps5 or end the gen earlier and start on getting 6 out as soon as possible so they are not trailing. This time it’s not like wiiu to switch, now there is a huge user base to upgrade to switch 2 the only roadblock I can see will be if they fuck up the pricing. The price is key as most diehards will buy regardless but the regular users that make up the bulk of the switch user base probably not so quick to splash the cash.

Comparisons with GTA6 will be worthy.

24hrs not up yet.

GTA6 in 24hrs got almost 100M youtube + almost 100M on X as far as I can tell.

So on X Switch2 should almost reach on even perhaps pass GTA6. Unlikely to get close on Youtube though.

It's fallen back down though. Players may be happy with the thing finally being shown, but now reality is setting in for many - including the shareholders. We now have to wait until April to get concrete details about the features of the system, as well as the games, but what's unsaid about this announcement of an announcement is that the actual release of the system is going to be even later than that. Nintendo, for the better part of this year, is going to have stagnating Switch sales in the face of the new console release and an anemic software calendar being kept on life support with $60 HD remasters.

Considering this thing probably won't release before September, Nintendo have their work cut out for them managing the marketing between now and launch.
They can do it, but they have to be at their best.

What does that mean? You could video my dog taking a dump on this thing and it would still sell like hotcakes.
You know what, your'e probably right. Even if they bungle the next year of marketing it will not fail. A vocal minority on places like GAF might not buy it at first but they won't have a large effect on sales.

Well before September.

The unit will be playable at events in April. The console will launch no later than late May.

No nothing like that. :)

Why are you all so guaranteed it will sell like hotcakes?

They are presenting it in a horrible manner

First game they show looks like a Switch 1 game

Then they show that you can play Switch 1 games on it

Mainstream folks just might think it's just an iterative update on a device they've had for 8 years, and think why do I need this?

They're doing this now in order to minimize the impact on Switch sales. Closer to launch you bet they'll emphasize the differences.

Thats a fair take, personally I think it all depends on the software. The core concept of the switch is sound no need to change anything just make a better version which this is.

Why would you need it? To play the games that you cant play on Switch one. 3rd party stuff like COD and of course the Nintendo stuff. Sure there will be crossgen titles like Metroid but there will also be Nintendo exclusives.

Its been what 8 years since the switch? The upgrade will be apartent once we see the games.

In all fairness, the upgrade isn't apparant with the footage of MK9 so far (sadly).
Agreed that was a poor first show, i don't know what they where thinking.

Lets see the goods in April, but all the big hitters bar Zelda must have been cooking a while. Even then if the launch window consists of "only" Metroid, exclusive MK9 and with an Upgrade to TOTK then exclusive Mario towards the holidays this thing is a lock. Thats one of the best first years ever, if that did come to pass of course.

All depends on the games like i said, we could get none of that then in which case I'd be in full agreement with you.

Cautiously Optimistic here, as always.

If they'll launch it with Mario Kart 9, will be a huge success. Lot of people here are focusing on the graphics that seems similar to MK 8D (from 10 sec footage...), but the hype for a new MK is off the charts.

I remember people saying Smash Bros Ultimate was a porting of the 4th because graphics was similar, and it sold more than 30 millions lol

Yeah it is, they showed the grid with 24 spots
You'd have to be actually analyzing the trailer to see that. None of that is actually apparant from a first glance at the footage. And it looks like a Switch 1 game.

So you know, just saying, it doesn't look apparant that it's a NEW title. Especially not for mainstream folks.

Not going to happen, the message is pretty clear.

Well it is apparent if you you paid attention? You miss a lot of things at first glance in trailers. And if you put the 2 games side by side the upgrade is significant.

But i do agree on your second point it was a weird title to show and not aparrent for the mainstream, they need to do better.

release with mario kart 9, metroid prime 4, silksong and good third parties and this thing is going to break records.

I think they can get away with doing absolutely bare minimum after the experience stuff (if that's a positive show) to launch. This is going to sell, it's never not.

The first year window is where they want to make sure a steady stream of new, quality titles release. April should tell all.

You again :messenger_tears_of_joy:

No, the message is not 'pretty clear'. But keep telling yourself that and throwing around Youtube numbers, as if that means anything.
YouTube numbers do point towards it being interesting to mainstream. That is hard part.

I guess hardest part for Nintendo would be to keep interest/ momentum of Switch 1 going. Console / Mario Kart being iterative could be a part of that strategy.

Just like how Fortnite keeps trucking along.
