Nioh 2 is pure bliss

It has some core combat mechanics down, but I will never be able to actually love a game with this type of itemization.

I absolutely loathe any game with "Diablo" loot system, they are just casino-like dopamine dispensers, I hate being manipulated, and it's imo the worst contribution from Blizard to the video game industry.
Also why I could never get into Nioh sadly.

Love Nioh 2 so much and was expecting Wo Long to be better but it became so simplified and lacked any depth.

Rise of the Ronin was even worse. Hope they go back to making a game with as much depth and fun gameplay as Nioh 2 again.

lol I keep dying non-stop on the first mission. Any tips?
Avoid group battles and use the bow you acquire to pick off stragglers with head shots. If there is a demon face it with your Yokai transformation or learn to space and punish with strong long range attacks like throwing axes, Kusarigama toss, or spear thrust.

I think Wo Long's gameplay design is better for not having burst counters, stamina management for basic attacks, and Ki Pulse. Also has cool weapon specials (Martial Arts), Stratagems, and better armor set bonuses for different builds. It also animates much more fluidly.

I think most fans would say yes, but seeing as they play nearly identically apart from a couple of new features in the sequel, don't expect a radically different experience if you hated the original.

They are actually very different if you play through to the highest difficulty cycles and post-game stage. In Nioh peak performance is pretty simply achieved through using ninjutsu to sneak-attack and one-shot most anything. In Nioh 2 its all about buff stacking and maintaining those buffs long-enough to defeat enemies with whatever weapon/style you choose. Which not only is harder but requires really learning how builds work.

Playing Nioh 2 like the first will only get you so far (smoothly at least, if you aren't amazingly skilled) because without the devil-trigger style mechanics of the first game you don't have the same ability to pull-out massive damage spikes in a pinch. Which may sound like a downgrade but it really isn't because there are so many more tools in your arsenal to combine in order to get the same result.

Its a way more refined version of the game that ultimately has its own very distinctive feel. I love them both, but no doubt the second is bigger and better.

The end-game of Nioh 2 is fascinating, the loot schtick never grabbed me until i was getting Ethereal drops and working towards a set build, the amount if numbers i was dropping was insane. Plus, you can cosplay as a Hayabusa ninja.

I hate both Nioh games

- Terrible level design
- Bland looking levels
- super mediocre art-direction
- Over convoluted gameplay mechanics
- nonsensical stories
- bullshit, OCD inducing loot system for the OCD kiddies

This isn't the right way to copy the souls formula.

Big Team Ninja fan btw, just not a fan of this bullshit
This is how I felt about the first, and why I haven't tried the second yet

Plus, you can cosplay as a Hayabusa ninja.
But you may have just sold me lol

I enjoyed Nioh 2....hated the loot system. Trying to min-max is such a chore....I dare say there is too much loot variety in the game. It doesn't help that I'm a hoarder.

It got to the point to where I refused to upgrade unless I got to a point where I couldn't progress. Just didn't want to be bothered with it.

It's funny - I completely agree with this list but is still think both Niohs are very entertaining.
