One Way Heroics | Don't look back

Just picked this game up today and am having a blast.

Are there more bosses other than the Demon Lord? I would guess they're just tied to difficulty? Not much info out there I could find on this game but I'm prolly just missing something.

I had a pretty invincible Pirate play through going where I used buddy tablets on the Demon Lord and learned of all that stuff. Anything else to do on a single play through or should I move on to higher difficulties? (Was on afternoon stroll).

Can't believe this game is so cheap for the amount of depth it has.

I totally agree. Once this hits Steam I will definitely be paying full price for a couple of gift copies. I put at least 3-4 hours into this game last night and had a blast. My runs are finally getting smarter!

Just a question - with Steam release inevitable, are you guys planning on outdoing ToME when it comes to achievements? Roguelikes seem to be made with cheevos in mind.

Also, if you have any feedback on how the game could be improved, be sure to let me or BudokaiMR2 know. We're in constant contact with Smoking WOLF, the developer, and he's always looking for good feedback.
Nice to know Wolf still work on the game. ^ ^

@BudokaiMR2 If I had request/feedback to make that would be :
- more online fonctionality ( already spoke about the ability to leave a message on the ground like you can do in demon's/dark souls ( I actually think the game could work with actual multiplayer, but I guess that's too big of a change and maybe even against the idea of what the game is about ))
- maybe a way to 'bookmark/favorite' some dimension, it would be better than using my own txt for that :p
- if possible I'd like to be able to also have replay where you see the game like you do when you play, not just a top view of a mini map like you currently can

I (sadly) hadn't heard of this game until today, but as a long time fan of roguelikes (especially well-executed ones), this game is relevant to my interests. :)

And for $0.99 (well, $2 in my case), it's hard to go wrong. The Steam key is just an added bonus - if I spend even a couple hours playing it, I'll just buy another copy on Steam when it gets greenlit and pass my extra key on to a friend.

Now I just have to wait until I get home later to try it out...

YES! First win, as an Adventurer no less. My heavily upgraded Neath's Holy Bow was my crutch through that game.

Welcome, you just started the game :p

I'm legitimately amazed I survived, considering I was taking heavy damage from even fairly weak enemies. Rip Quality Rooting Neath's Holy Bow.

The real One Way Heroics begins here.

EDIT: Second clear down with the surprisingly powerful unarmed naked Hero! As long as I wasn't ambushed I could kill everything easily. :D

Hey all!

To celebrate the game being in the Top 10 for Greenlight, I'm posting 100 coupons for a free copy of One Way Heroics on Playism. If you already have the game, feel free to pass it to that friend that's been sitting on the fence. Or even better, pass it on to a fellow gaffer that you know would love the game!

To use the coupon, you merely have to put it in the coupon field at the transaction screen after adding OWH to your cart.

Quote for coupons!
OVJVXN8gOM02 used.

Infrequent poster but long-time lurker here; thanks a ton, I've been keeping an eye on this game for a while. I'll be sure to show it off to my buds!

Made it to the Demon Lord on my third playthrough (much better than my first two -- the first time I didn't make it off the first screen, and the second time I only made it about 15km). He proceeded to kick my ass, though I did drop his health by about 30%.

Unlocked two storage slots and the master locksmith perk, and I'm ready to try it again. This is quite the fun little game for the price.

EDIT: About the only thing this game needs is proper selectable resolution. I don't like playing in exclusive fullscreen mode, and the window sizes are 'way too tiny', 'still too tiny' and 'large enough that a little gets cut off the bottom of my screen'. (This seems to be an issue with Japanese developers in general; a lot of PC games from Japan don't seem to acknowledge the fact that different desktop resolutions exist...)

There are more ways to win the game than simply kill the Demon Lord. I personally have found 2. I am surprised the game is deeper than I assume.

Hints:

Keep going forever and see what happens.

Fight the darkness.

You just blew my mind.

I keep thinking I have most of the Perks and more keep showing up! I almost beat the Demon Lord on the 2nd difficulty, but made a stupid mistake. Did beat him on easy mode with the Hunter though.

Just booted the game up and instantly lost 2 hours of my life, God knows how long I would have played if I hadn't managed to beat the demon. Was the 10th player to beat the multiplayer seed today, I managed it with a sword master who managed to pick up and grand blade along with some pretty sweet armour.

As is obvious by the amount I played it I really enjoyed the game. It plays a lot like Half Minute Hero only instead of small, simple puzzles your dropped into huge worlds and instead of of only having a few options you've got the system depth and randomisation of a roguelike.

I'm really looking forward to giving the other classes and modes a go, at the very least I can see myself attempting to get through the daily seeds for a good long while. The quality and amount of content you get at the asking price is unbelievable, I'll be sure to purchase the game when it comes to Steam.

Haha yeah the Secret Boss is absolutely amazing guys!
It blew my mind when I first figured it out.

So well designed and the hints are all perfectly placed IMO.

I got this yesterday and my playtime is already six hours. Send help.

On the bright side, got Swordmaster down on the easiest difficulty too. I tried Force User, but the level I used was so sparse I was only lv. 5 by 400km.

EDIT: I also found an awesome melee weapon: Seeking Crescent Axe. High damage, 20% crit, +15% accuracy. Murders all of the things.

I got a wicked crescent axe +9 in ZMOYON by killing a merchant. It only cost 107K silver!

I love what they did with the
secret boss
. If you're looking for a challenge,
try beating the game at 1km. It's funny how the game is totally cool with you doing that.

I'm glad I got this game after finals, because it is addicting. xD I'm surprised completing easy with all classes unlocks the rest of the modes, I thought I'd have to do stuff on the second difficulty too.

I'll let you in on a maddening secret, one that drove me irrevocably mad:
You managed all classes with using the stash. You get a different/better trophy when not using it

Yeah, I saw you guys talking about that earlier in the thread. It's gonna be tough! Well, except for a Monk-esque Hero build. Got other difficulties to try first though.

PROTIP: Be careful when using spears with the Destructive ability! I just accidentally destroyed a goddess statue. ;_;

You want to be truely mad :

Yup, new icon when maniac mode was ON ( so no vault nor goddess altar ), and another icon when you finish the game by getting to 'the end of the world'

Yay - I finally beat the Demon Lord (once). I found a holy spear in one of those sealed rooms with 2 spaces of reach and 'every hit is a critical hit' modifier. I saved it for the Demon Lord (along with all of my Awakenings) and chewed through him before he ever woke up.

Now I'm off to do it again... :)

I REALLY need to remember to use Awakening in combat. I always forget about it when I'm fighting the boss, but it sure would help! -_-

Got my first Afternoon Stroll clear, though. Naked Hero so OP. :p

EDIT: Just saw a bow at a Merchant worth 30,000 Silver! :O

When I see high value items like that I usually just kill the merchant and have my way.

...

For some reason I never thought of doing that. I'm too nice. :p It was in the Demon Invasion Weapon Buff world, so I'll have to go back and murder him. xD

And then when I went back to find that dude I came across a guy with a sword worth 67,000.

He is dead now.

Xp

It was a Seeking Godslaying Angry Critical Eagle Blade+4. +45% accuracy, +70%(!) crit.

Those stats are nutty. I made it to the end of the world and having already cleared the game at 400km with that character, was not allowed to keep my worlds end bow.

I almost flipped my desk over.

I think I might try to get to the end of the world on my next playthrough for a change. Gotta get dose secret endings.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY WAYS OF PLAYING THIS GAME

I wish there was like someone to bribe to get rid of your bounty in this game. On a playthrough today I finally killed one the non-aggressive critters and found that some of them give you 300% exp instead of a stat boost. Super useful, but it flags you forever to the green archer ladies that wander around (Emerald something, can't remember there name) and I found they are pretty difficult to outrun so I had to kill one of them. Bounty level of course shot up and now have to wait ages to go into towns if I don't want to murder everyone.

Of course the next zone is a Prairie, which have been pretty insane for me anywhere past the 1000km mark, and this one was too, but I didn't really wanna murder everyone I saw so I tried to avoid the towns. I guess I ended up aggroing a bunch of the guards from pretty far because when daylight came I realized I had a posse of three town guards following me. Long story short I had to massacre them all and I feel bad.

I guess there isn't a huge penalty for killing townsfolk anyway once you're strong enough to kill the guards easily, but man I feel like a dick.

Semi-spoiler question (Not real story just a type of building you encounter later on):
Is there any benefit to raiding the Demon Temples and making the Demon Lord stronger? I did it once on a play-through and while it made the Lord quite strong I didn't see it give me any bonus or anything. I guess the game does warn you.

Yeah, I wish you could do that with the Dark Brotherhood. Even they respond to your bounty, which feels weird since they're all criminals. Why do they care?

EDIT for new day: Queen Frieda appears in the new King Victor map! Sadly it's in a dungeon with nearly unbreakable walls whose only entrance is facing a mountain range. Sorry queen!

A couple of questions. Where are the other characters you can recruit? Are they all in prisons like the queen?

Also, is anything supposed to happen gameplay wise when you
talk to the demon lord?

You need to
Throw a "Buddy Tablet" at him. You can get it from Dosey story or Dark Forest Stores. Also requires 2 Charm points.

Ok, I did that, the only thing changed was the small dialogue from the Dark Lord. And the death message from the darkness. Defeating him just gave the same stuff as always (Demon Lord's Heart).

Check the daily challenges. You can recruit different characters on different days. Today's character is Panty (that's the actual name). He is recruitable right in the starting area, but you need 1 Charisma + 500Gold to recruit him, and another 500G per day.

His full name is Panty Shot. PANTY SHOT.

Could someone tell me what Victor's ending is? I beat the Demon Lord with him yesterday, but I didn't realize the ending seemed to change till I hit the skip key.

Ah, thanks.

I need to work on some alternate endings. I tried going for the end of the world, but I ended up chased by three dragons and decided to just beat the boss because I was going to die otherwise.

Found a Staff of Prayers. Suddenly Force is viable!

Different question combinations, or different characters too?

Nope, a new dialogue option opens after you do something special in the world.
There are not many hints in the game but it is definitely a "Ohhhhhhhhh!" moment when you figure it out ;p

Here is a little more of a hint!

You need certain Holy Weapons and BRAVERY!

So got the game yesterday...and finally beat it! Was playing one of the code given on page 3 (one with Panty near the starting point)...forgot to pay him around 500km in (on reflex, I had more than enough cash), so had to continue with the
queen
...

Bad equipment all around (no shop to buy stuff so had to stuck with short sword...also later on had another shortsword and longsword). Around 900 I decide to say: screw it, I'm beating the boss now or die trying! With the longsword, chainmail (flex) and leather shield, I face the demon lord after he appears, throw dragon flame vial at him, activate berserk, and goes on frenzy attacking the boss till he's down. Should have also used awakening there.

The ending with the queen is quite sad.

Question: does normal towns still appear later (found few infected), or only Dark Brotherhood?

I just realized that I missed the Queen's and Dosey's ending, even though I'm pretty sure I beat the game with both. Do you have to do something special for them?

@Gazoinks: I got the queen's ending with only her in the party...I'm not even sure how to get Dosey
after she turned into the wolf thing

Regular towns do show up quite a bit in certain maps.
