Nice! VR mode is a little janky in parts but I know they said it's their "Version 1.0 of their VR implementation". Let's hope they fixed the galaxy map to allow me to finally be able to see how many planets and moons does each system have before warping, which is curiously only available in flat mode.
And hoping they finally fixed the bug where Polo doesn't give me Atlas Station coordinates. (I've been asking for this since Beyond's release)

The one silly thing was HTC trying to save Cocmos by saying you can buy base stations, wands and faceplate to make it a working Vive (or Index I guess).

I love the concept of VR, and my GearVR was my favorite gadget of 2015/2016.
However, I'm really not the least bit interested in getting up and moving around to play games. I love the head tracking, but I only want to use VR for racing and flying games. I've also played Star Trek Bridge Crew on my monitors, and I'm sure that's fantastic in VR with full motion controls.
Just don't make me get up and move around. I already do that a lot at work, plus I can go walking with my dog for exercise.

I added a couple more of the individual holiday showcase videos (of PC VR games) here (pixel ripped 1995, eclipse: edge of light), but some can still only be seen in the holiday showcase (the down the rabbit hole, low-fi, sentenced vr, pistol whip new content and after the fall stuff among others).
More indies working with physics stuff. This looks pretty early obviously, not as good as boneworks or nimso ny's stuff yet, but some promising things already.

I just picked up all 3 episodes of Star Wars Vader Story on Oculus store. Hot damn! Finally a game where I can lightsaber duel! Can't wait for the next 2 installments! This is going to be a great xmas with the moving coming soon!

I'm sure as a full trilogy you'll have a better opinion of it than folks that only got them one by one as they got released too. It's still more of an "experience" than a fully fleshed out game sadly and could definitely have done many things better but yeah, it's still cool in many ways too. Have fun.

I was reading about half life Alyx and it said it uses “teleportation” movement. What does this mean? I have not played any VR game before so I’m kind of clueless with this- with games like say, super hot VR and half life Alyx (well as far as we know) how do you move around? Just with two joysticks like a regular controller? Or one joystick for movement and you have to turn your head for turning?
I’m interested in VR and I’m building a new PC next year. I just don’t know about the movement side of things. Also the cost :/

Teleportation is an option, it also controls like a normal game. Teleportation just skips you forward. Its lame and pretty much phased out by this point as only an option.

Watch some videos maybe, to know what you're getting into beyond the description "VR"? Youtube is pretty full of them, you can put the name of any VR game and watch how people play it. This is an old one but still relevant, ignore the actual games/graphics/gui/whatever, it's just what it says.
The only change since is that regular analog movement has become way more accepted as better and that there have been other creative methods like Lone Echo's where you're in a zero gravity environment and use weak thrusters or propel yourself by pushing/pulling against the environment.
There's no movement beyond your play area in SUPERHOT VR, again, make sure you read about the games properly or watch videos if you want to avoid completely misinformed decisions and disappointment (or I guess in other cases surprise, lol, it'd suck to think Alyx is only teleport capable).
And again, there are more solid VR kits to get than Index so the cost also varies way too much to just be described as ":/" universally. Did you read the OP? Varied information there, from available popular VR kits/manufacturers to various youtubers and websites that offer further insight into it.

Probably not wise to release it on same day as RDR2 but oh well, just an early access thing, they'll get another chance. I'm sure many VR enthusiasts aren't too phased by RDR2 so, we'll see.
Sounds like the alpha has about half of the planned content with more to come, price will increase for the full launch around march 2020 and early access feedback will be used to improve the current content and balancing and gameplay and immersion and what not as well.
Also, didn't know they have the STALKER author doing the story, hope they improve the translation to make that matter, lol (if the game is like the rest)

I played Boiling Steel for 95 minutes straight (according to Steam). It's not quite what I expected, you'll actually find yourself going back to a base of sorts to upgrade your robot and weapon capabilities inbetween relatively short levels. I don't like the slow movement out of combat but in combat with the different weapons and enemy types it makes for a unique deliberate pacing, very different to just a "standard FPS but in VR" (so I guess some might be disappointed it isn't such but to me it's pretty cool all the same). Combat is all about managing target priorities and switching between your long and short range weapons accordingly to dispatch them quickly and efficiently. It's pretty basic I guess (so far) but it works well.
Sadly performance isn't great and there are no options outside supersampling and AA. You'll want AA set to at least 2x even if you don't increase anything else to make most of the text readable (on og Rift or similarly low resolution sets) and in the intro I found subtitles unreadable due to the light colors over the bright skyline background. The voice acting brings it down a bit, it takes a major turn for the worse after the intro where you'll be guided by a robotic voice rather than a human and it sounds like a plain text to speech. I can see hints of a decent enough story and I imagine there will be a GladOS or Shodan plot twist at some point but it doesn't really work out so far, maybe if the writing and voice acting was on par with actual GladOS it would (or just seem like a tired copy, I dunno).
Overall it's fun and promising even if I can see it getting repetitive as you switch between short-ish all action missions rather than go on a continuous adventure. Especially if it's also full of padding rather than present new developments, from systems/weapons/upgrades to the plot, at a good pace but there's no evidence of that yet and there were "bonus" missions to choose which I suppose you can ignore on the first run to keep it flowing better if it's an issue.

Edit: I checked some footage of Death Lap and it doesn't look great to me, it seems super imbalanced in that it's way too easy to kill/die and force an unremarkable respawn than be more about continuous racing as in kart racers (no deaths, just stealing a win) or even wipeout (where if you lose all your energy it's game over for you so it's still mostly about affecting the position than killing outright if one manages their energy levels decently).
It didn't look very fun but maybe that works out in the twisted metal style arenas over the race tracks. Respawning is never a fun way to do things even in arenas imo, I liked the lives system in Mario Kart 64's battle mode where each shot took one balloon of three away before taking the player wholly out (iirc?).

Edit: I checked some footage of Death Lap and it doesn't look great to me, it seems super imbalanced in that it's way too easy to kill/die and force an unremarkable respawn than be more about continuous racing as in kart racers (no deaths, just stealing a win) or even wipeout (where if you lose all your energy it's game over for you so it's still mostly about affecting the position than killing outright if one manages their energy levels decently).

I don't have a favorite, too many vastly different experiences. Some of the games I recommend are in this post but my list always seems to change, new stuff are added or I forget good stuff I should have mentioned etc., lol. I'd probably add Boiling Steel soon (and I just edited Journey of the Gods in cos it's another I forgot, lol).

Too many to pick just one, at this point it's a platform so it's possible to pick genres within that platform I think.
- Personally I've enjoyed Arizona Sunshine a lot, it was the first vr game I finished. Perhaps a little short but some really cool moments, especially in the mine
- Superhot is a must play, it really is a much better game in VR than the pancake version
- Budget cuts had some really cool parts, especially for those of us who work in cubicles all day, the vr movement and exploration in it was really fun, even more fun to watch people playing it
- So far no man's sky is excellent, it's experience marred by pretty crazy hardware requirements to run smoothly, survival games are a lot more fun in VR
- Beat saber and Job simulator are must have casual titles great at showing people who never tried vr what it's all about, no one I have shown vr has said they didn't love it after just letting them try these

I dunno why this is the only website I've been able to find this on as it seems like pretty big news (if it works). Maybe it's because Vive Focus hasn't really been aimed at the home user (at least in the West, maybe it's different in China) and much like Cosmos appears to be an overpriced and even lesser Rift S, it appears to be a similar take on the Quest. Still, a feature like this could tilt the scales (though Carmack has said they wish to make PC VR on Quest wireless if possible). At the very least, if it works well, it shows the viability of such a feature for existing/future (not only stand alone) VR sets which would be pretty exciting in and of itself.

Some of these are starting to look really well made, not so compromised because of low budget development or because they need to provide x amount of entertainment per ticket leading to lackluster gameplay compared to home VR titles despite the extra body tracking capabilities.

And yes it is a free locomotion FPS (it's kinda hard to tell from that rad looking trailer - seriously, go to the Steam page to watch it). The developer is also all about optimization and performance given that progress update which is always good to see, it says even the first maps they won't release initially could mostly maintain 90fps with the recommended specs (which aren't insane like other recent VR games with a GTX1080 and i7 or whatever, just a modest i5/Ryzen CPU and 1060/480 GPU) but that newer maps can do even better with more shit going on due to improved methods (which they'll be applying to the old stuff to release those too).

I jumped into PC VR by picking up an Odyssey Plus that was on sale. I currently have a RX 580 and am considering getting a RX 5700 XT to up the frames and super sampling, is that going to be good for 90FPS on bigger games? Another question is the index a major image quality upgrade from my set? I know the index is better in tracking, comfort, sound ect.
I should also note that my only VR experience besides the Odyssey is PSVR and 90's crap lol!

I don't think Index will be a night and day difference from Samsung's sets for image quality (if you're not a snob on that front, though it should be visibly sharper yet with lighter black levels so if the blur due to the anti-sde or whatever filters does annoy you, you will notice it) but for everything else definitely.
CPU seems pretty important for VR, my old i7 3770K (and matching DDR3 1600 which probably also matters) seems to struggle in the fancier games like Stormland and Asgard's Wrath despite being paired to a GTX1080. But of course a 5700XT will do a lot better than a 480.

i7 7700k is recommended for Boneworks? That's my CPU. I guess it's going on 3 years now but considering how long I was rocking my 2600k woooooboy.....
