Every GPU can do RayTracing it's not so much that RT isn't built in the GPU. It's more about whether the GPU has RT and Tensor Cores to make RayTracing well playable.
It's possible Sony is relying on the GPU for RayTracing and the RX 5700 they have in that PS5 is just good at it but not as good as RTX

no, it does not mean this at all. this could also mean that there is no true hardware based ray tracing and variable rate shading. Actually, with these findings, it's a given, hence the xbox series S will be as powerful as the ps5 and the xbox series X will be much more powerful.

The supposed PS5 APU you posted there is 9.2 TFs based on the CUs and frequency. A 12TF 36 CU APU would require a whopping 2600mhz clock, which is completely unheard of in GPUs, doubly so in a closed console box with a console priced cooling solution. Either this chip is a fake or red herring, or PS5 is only going to be 9.X teraflops. You are absolutely not getting 12TFs out of 36 CUs.

If it's true what people say where TF are different depending on how they are measured, or whatever, I expect a lot of confusion over the true TF figure and the companies will play fast and loose with the ignorance of Joe Public.
Strange isn't it, how for the first time in gaming history, the majority of people aren't talking 1080pvs4k or 30fps vs 60fps, but instead the majority of twitter nobodies are talking about TFs

People want a single number they can point at and measure how the new consoles, so now they use TF as a yard stick, resolution in and of itself is almost as useless (what compromises were made to perform so well as such an high resolution?).
I won't argue against the idea that a lot of that noise about TF could very well be marketing bots (or plants) that are all over the place could be marketing tools, but I think there are enough useful idiots in this world for people to do it on for free in their spare time.

On a serious note, it’s interesting but hopefully Sony doesn’t try to get too exotic with their method of RT with which I’m assuming is custom chips not from AMD if this leak is accurate.

That and I can't believe the bullshit the devs are saying with "8k." My standalone 2080Ti can't even do 4K/60 on Ultra for high demanding games let alone 8K on that tiny console. Really hate this BS advertising. Maybe it's "Playable" on an 8K TV due to the port, bout all the 8K this thing is going to do. I doubt it can still do true 4k/60 TBH.

This. Fanboyism aside, everyone always overhypes MS software efforts and calls them wizards.
Don't get me wrong, not trying to downplay their achievements but always going for the "well Sony is hardware after all so MS can easily catch up with software" is a lame argument, considering Sony has some of the best studios and tech guys out there. Look at what Naughty Dog and co. continue to produce in terms of games, pushing the bar (and these achievements in return directly shape the console SDK). Their software is no joke / something to downplay.

But it's not the devs fault you don't want to play in 30FPS, and/or downgrade the settings to Medium... Besides, if X1X already does 4K60 in some of the games, then a 4-5x more powerful console will easily handle games like Minecraft, Fortnite, Fifa etc. in 8K.
