To make a long story short, I run a dual monitor setup. One do my 32 inch ultra gear and one to my 65 inch Qdoled.

I mostly work on the monitor and game on the TV. I kept having an issue where my screen would flicker periodically and was enough to become a distraction. After looking at my pc and finding nothing wrong I googled this issue and found the problem.

Its a setting called input signal plus or hdmi uhd that caused me and others to deal with that headache. Turn that shit off and smooth sailing!

however, Samsung TVs have this annoying thing where they just don't allow you to turn all that nonsense off for Xbox consoles. it's not giving you any image issues or anything on Xbox, but it will turn the console on automatically if you switch to the Xbox's hdmi port.
doesn't sound like a big deal, but if you turn the console on with the controller, the TV will not notice the console is on until like 4 seconds later. so if you turn the console on with the Controller it gets sent a power cycle signal and turns on, if you then switch to its HDMI port too quickly the TV will also send a power cycle signal to the console (because it thinks it's still off) and due to that turn it back off ...

Samsung TVs literally just bypass any settings I do on both the TV and the Console.

Their TVs are tightly integrated with Xbox consoles due to their long running partnership they have since the 360 days.

There are normally different settings for waking things up.

But I normally keep it on, just... switch on TV using Netflix button.

Input signal plus gives you proper 4k 4:4:4 though. Without it 4k will be 4:2:0 subsampled. You might lose other 2.1 hdmi features to like HDR and gsync/freesync.

I bought a high quality fibre optic high speed hdmi cable because I had similar problems.

Maybe your Xbox and TV need firmware updates

So just wait 4 seconds and let the TV switch the input? Or switch the input manually and the TV will turn the console on? Why the hell you doing both? This sounds like PEBKAC lmao

well I am used to turning on my console with my controller... Switch, PS5, [insert all other last gen and last-last gen systems], and my Xbox...
I always have to consciously remind myself not to switch inputs too fast... it's fucking annoying, and my Console should at no point talk to my TV or the other way around, unless it's strictly video/audio signal handshake related.

Possibly. My run to my TV is 15ft so with a normal high speed cable I was getting dropouts for 1 second and some times no picture at all. After I bought a fibre optic hdmi cable it's been fine I paid £45 for a 10 meter on Amazon UK I think.

But you defo need input signal plus on for hdmi 2.1 features.

So the TV doesn't switch to the Xbox automatically? I'd make sure all CEC options are ON on both sides EXCEPT the ones that allows them to control the power states of other devices, then all that happens is the input is switched to the Xbox when you turn it on.

With my 2016 Sony TV and PS4/PS5 if i hit the PS button when the console is already turned on it will switch back to it from the PC input. This is all happening through a soundbar and an HDMI switch too:

TVs HDMI 3 (ARC) is connected to HDMI OUT on soundbar, HDMI 1 input on soundbar has PC connected, HDMI 2 input has a 4-Port HDMI switch going into it with a PS5, a Switch and an Xbox 360 connected.

This gives me the best audio from all consoles since Switch doesn't support 5.1 through ARC (only eARC afaik) and the PC and PS5 would need eARC for uncompressed audio formats.

If CEC works + the PS button input switch feature through all that complicated chain then surely Samsung and Xbox can do similar if they have a partnership.

Buying a proper 2.1 hdmi cable and will see if it works tomorrow. Those fiber optic cables are like $ 40 but this should do

Never had a problem with my qn95a, but always had certified hdmi 2.1 cables connected to it.

Input signal plus is turned on for wvery connection.

I wanted to thank you. It was indeed the hdmi cable. It was rated for 4k/120 but I have had it for years so maybe it started et fail. I picked up that 2 pack of the hdmi 2.1 cables for $15 on Amazon. Works great!

Years ago I had a similar issue where I had a 4k cable box, 4k tv, and at the time I think I had a One X. when I watched TV I get all this gross green staticky shit every once in a while. But playing games was fine.

Someone reco'ed check the HDMI cables I got with the 4k cable package. I went to Costco and bought new 4k cables and it fixed the issue. Those cables that came with it were shit. You'd think the 4k cable box from the service provider would give good cables to go with it. lol. The gaffer said it probably had to do with shielding and interference. Makes sense because the way my TV stand is, I got all the cables bunched up in a corner plugged into a power bar.
