The Thing; Prequel and Carpenter's version. In the prequel it was just starting out, so their chance for survival was a little bit higher. Carpenter's Thing is basically a death sentence as soon as the dog showed up. Hyper intelligence and a one touch instakill. You can see a Xenomorph or try and fight off a facehugger.
Speaking of movies that scared me as a kid.From the 1986 movie "HOUSE", movie is actually not even close to being scary now. But as a kid this thing gave me many a nightmare, as did her kids but I can't find a picture of them on the internet. Her voice made her even worse, this one pic doesn't do her justice.

Lol,yeah I actually watched it recently with my son. I was cracking up all the way through the movie.
He chopped her up with an axe, after he opened the room with the flying tools in it.

That tar zombie also scared the crap out of me as a kid, I really believed the part in the beginning of the movie where it said this was a true story. I had nightmares about zombies and cemeteries as a kid constantly.

That is actually Satan. One night I was trying to sleep, the flashes of satan from that movie started appearing in my head, and I freaked the FUCK out.

Haha fuck yeah. This was one my earliest horror movies, and introduced me to the idea that monsters and zombies don't just exist in dark creepy places, but can just appear in your fucking house. Scared the hell outta me.

This movie ruined my brother's life for years. He was terrified to be alone in a room, he slept on the floor of my or my parent's bedroom every night and wouldn't shut the door to a bathroom.

Seriously though, I slept on my parents floor for like a month after seeing that movie. I was terrified of that motherfucker being under my bed, so when I would get out of bed I would literally leap as far off of it as I could and make a beeline for the door without ever looking back. And it's all because we watched that stupid movie in the afterschool program and my dad came and picked me up when it was only 3/4 of the way through the movie. If I'd seen the end and realized how silly the movie was, I probably never would've been afraid of it.
I finally faced my fears as a 20 year old and remembered saying "that's it? that's what has haunted me my entire life?
I loved the Ernest movies too, so I was really excited to laugh my ass off when I first watched it. Nope, scared the shit out of me.
Pennywise, of course. Though not It as it was in the film, because they turned it into a lame spider thing. It in the book was... well, everything about It was terrifying. I had to put that book down so many times to hide under the covers because I would, typically if stupidly, read it at night while in bed.

Just to note, it's not so much scary as it is flat out entertaining. That zombie just happens to have a great look.
Return of the Living Dead is basically a comedy and Mama just makes no sense. It sucks and is completely forgettable, but I can watch some seriously garbage movies. Try watching a movie called "Thug Life" with nephew Tommy. Damn near unwatchable.

The monster in the original short is somehow more unsettling to me. Maybe because it looks human and the "goofiness" inspires the kind of terror clowns do.

I recall that immediately before this scene, he's scoping a sleeping girl's boobs right before she's eaten alive. Even though he'd just seen 2 of their best friends horrifically killed by the lake sludge.
The Blair Witch Project's witch is it for me simply because you never see her/it. I think that when you see the monster/ghost, you become familiar with it and thereby lose one of the more powerful catalysts that renders a character scary.
Pinhead freaked me out so bad as a kid. Also anything that was a werewolf. Just that it's a vicious animal just scares the hell out of me for some reason. I never thought IT was scary. At all. It still boggles my mind how people are scared of clowns. I always thought they were stupid.
