Got through chapter 1 only die'n once on Survival somehow. lol
I snuck up to
get the keys and was too slow and the guy chainsawed off my arm and then my head.
But at the locker sequence I only hid in the first locker and I tried to get to the other and he saw me. I went through the square hole in the wall and got nicked by his chainsaw but managed to outrun him to get to the elevator.
It's such a shame I can't handle scary games at all (Dead Space was pretty much my limit), because this seems to be absolutely great. Oh well, maybe I'll pick it up later and play it at noon some day without headphones.
Currently in the process of doing the mandatory 7GB install for the PS3 version, was looking at the box art and I gotta say I'm kinda digging the reversible cover art
Also is anyone having issues redeeming the Fighting Chance pack on PSN?
Played up to Chapter 4, really like this game even though I don't play much survival horror. I really made a certain encounter with an enemy more complicated than I should've, was good for learning though!
For anyone else who has cleared chapter 3 I ran into something I thought was odd.
I wasn't sure what to do with the chainsaw man, when I walked near his pen he broke free and started chasing me. I thought I might need to lure him to the chain and make him attack it, which ended up with me cut in half.
Second time, I moved up close to his 'cell' and he didn't break out. I had to shoot him a few times to coax him out of there.
Is this some RE4-like dynamic difficulty shit or just a bug?
If there are guys among them who get stuck for 4 hours in the Agreus chase part in LOS2 then I don't blame Bethesda.
Their own fault if they're treated like idiots.

I thought that getting him out was some sort of puzzle, so I chucked a grenade in. It worked, so I can't speak to whether or not what happened to you was a bug. But I thought the same thing at first, tried to lure him towards the chain. Did not work.
This game is legit, people. I had my doubts and was one of the haters that thought it looked like a PS2 game from the previews, but man is it beautiful (on PC) and fun. 5 chapters in, It's as if you put all the best parts about RE4 and Silent Hill 2 together and made another game out of it. No spoilers but just in case -
there are open environment sections like in RE4 where you can choose to explore and kill whatever you want, and then there are hopeless, mindfuck sections like Silent Hill.
I'm loving the mix so far, and there have been times where my jaw dropped already. If you are any kind of horror fan and had doubts about this, go buy it right now.
Aww man I hope those slipcovers aren't GS exclusives. Wouldn't be surprising if Bethesda just shipped them a bunch to slip over preordered copies...then they'll just throw away the leftovers :'(

I can confirm that every first run copy at GS is going to have the slip cover, can't say much for other retailers. Also they came pre-packaged like that.
It looks nice to me as well. The aspect ratio is making me feel like I'm playing Turok 2 on N64, but other than that it's fine. Don't get some of the hate.
Man, this game is so good I didn't expect it to be that good considering everything we've heard from previews and quite a few gaffers.
Anyway, the feel of this game as of Chapter 4, is very much Survival Horror mixed with RE4, if RE4 was way more like REmake and Silent Hill if that makes any sense. Ammo is scarce and the atmosphere is incredible, in each encounter I actually feel pretty vulnerable and the enemies are really unnerving and scary. This is nothing like RE4 considering RE4 gives you everything you need to fight and this game doesn't, even with ammo conservation there definitely seems to be an effort to push the player towards fleeing/stealth versus fighting and wasting potentially valuable resources.
Story wise I can't even begin to figure out what's going on other than everything is pretty fucked up and weird, maybe a slight Lovecraftian vibe.
Love it so far, characterization is great and the voice work and writing is loads better than RE4.

Can I just say, Chapter 10 was wayyyy too much shitting the bed for me! Like damn Tango.... you gave little to no room to breath on that chapter. I loved it but... HOLY SHIT.
I gotta say from what I've seen the graphics are good enough for me. Hopefully the framerate stays locked, so far I haven't seen a single occasion of slowdown.
Gameplay is good, graphics are good, sound is excellent but the black bars are really, really annoying.
I never had a problem with black bars in games, they never bothered me in RE4 but I think they are too much with TEW when you consider how close the camera is to Sebastian.
Just as an exemple (small spoiler about 3 minutes into the game)
when you're hiding from the chainsaw dude in that infirmary right before you take the elevator sometimes it's really hard to see where he is because the fucking black bars are covering your vision of the windows and there is no way to peek.
If the game is really rendering the whole screen and the black bars are just covering it (like RE4 on Gamecube) I really, really hope Bethesda and Tango gives us the option of removing or at least making the black bars smaller. I understand this might be a design choice by Mikami, but I still wish I could change then.
Forget about 60FPS, being able to get rid of those black bars makes the PC version the best one by far.

@JJ, not sure what you mean. You can just tilt the camera by standing at the edge and he'll peak in a bit. Otherwise there are plenty of windows to get a view of where chainsaw is.
Anyone made it to chapter 6 yet? I know I'm missing something totally obvious but none of the mirrors work and I'm stuck.
