Should I buy Mass Effect: Andromeda?

If you're a Sheppard fanboy then definitely not, it's not a bad game if you're just a fan. You know the type of excuses fanboys make.

OP should forget about Mess Effect: Androgynous and go finish 3 instead. Even better, replay 1 and 2 before doing so.

I remember I stopped playing it about the 3rd or 4th time I inexplicably fell through the floor.

It sucks.

ME has decent lore but the actual character writing and scenario is a little bit campy being completely honest. Andromeda has a strong scenario pitch but it's just uninspiring, two new alien races? THAT'S IT? The writing is cringy and amateur but I'd imagine it's better than whatever was in Veilguard.

Combat is actually very good but you won't put up with the non combat elements if you're actually passionate about ME.

I mean probably nah, it’s pretty mid. There are enough games that you don’t have to put up with mid if you don’t want to.

I tried twice to get into Andromeda, and I couldn't make it past about 10 hours. I just didn't feel the "hook" I need to continue playing. I didn't care about the characters or the plot. The action was okay but nothing special. It felt like a hodgepodge of elements that didn't come together very well. People make fun of the animations and dialog, but it went beyond that. There was something missing at the heart of the game, a coherent vision or direction or something... It was a bit of a head-scratcher, because Bioware had the chance to restart the ME franchise over again, and this is what they came up with.

You can get it for cheap, so you could always pick it up and give it a shot. That way, you could test it out for yourself. To me, though, it wasn't worth the time. It was a ho-hum experience.

If I were you, I'd put your time into Mass Effect 3. It's a good game and part of that original, classic trilogy.

Sounds like you're getting a mixed bag in this thread.

I personally thought it was OK. Good, self contained story that had a conclusive ending, that tied in your game decisions and showed it. Something that Priority Earth didn't have in ME3.

I only played it once and honestly, can't really recall a whole lot, which might be telling, but I do remember it being enjoyable enough for me to finish it.

If you enjoy ME and want to step back into the ME universe, it's worth a cheap sale grab.

Honestly, buy it and see for yourself. Gamers tend to exaggerate the fucking dumbest shit. I personally liked Andromeda more then the first and 3rd game

So for me personally, it is

1. Mass Effect 2
2. Andromeda
3. Mass Effect 3
4. Mass Effect 1

I love the gameplay, i like the story setting itself apart and I'm fine with the general concept. Mass Effect has always been a "meh" series for me and it probably why I never cared for the fake outrage and fake drama people kept forcing into that game's release. Many did this because THEY see those first 3 games as "derrr da BEST EVEZ", in reality, they are mid.... 1 was bad, 2 is great, 3 is ok, this series was simply nothing to write home about to act as if Andromeda was suppose to live up to this amazing legacy or something lol

So I say, play it yourself and see. I'm more open to someone playing something to form their own opinion, then to try to force one. Its so cheap used, you can find it at a pretty reasonable price. So I'm not telling you its GOTG, I'm not telling you its the worse game in history....

I'm saying find out yourself as this thread is mixed enough to tell you some like it, some don't. I can't say how you'll take that game, but I do believe its worth trying out if you like Mass Effect

I enjoyed the game. Played it through at least 10 times now.

The thing about it is that it's not a bad game. It's just not a very good Mass Effect game. If you're expecting ME 1 or 2 that's not what it is. But it has pretty good gameplay.

First of all, finish ME3 because its equally good as ME2 and you get to witness the finale of the trilogy. There was nothing wrong with part 3 besides people being angry how the 3 separate endigns were a color swap of the scene and were almost identical. They didnt really manage to convert all your choices from previous 2 games and make a special ending for you (it would literally be impossible) so intead people got a generic ending. BUT....the game is wild and a MUST play. Who cares about a stupid ending cutscene when you have 30+ hours of awesomeness.

As for andromeda, yes buy and play it. All those memes of face glitches etc were fixed in later patches. Unfortunately that is all what people talk about when mentioning this game so people think its an absolute disaster. My two cents about it as a ME fan:

+ Gameplay is VASTLY improved compared to original trilogy, you have so much more freedom of movement and gunplay is satisfying.
+ Game looks beautiful and obviously more modern.
+ Again a very sold length with a ton of sidequests and stories

- However the story isnt as gripping nor do you really care about the characters as much as you did in the original trilogy. They arent particularly well written and you forget about all of em quickly.
- I dont even know if the game has a musical score because its so bland compared to past games which is a big minus for me.

I always say the same thing - it's not about the price (because the game is dirt cheap), it's about the time you'll waste playing it. Honestly, it's not worth it, even if you plan on focusing on the main story.

Gameplay is pretty good, it flows way better than the other ME games. The story however is shit, complete and utter shit. So if you're playing for the story don't bother.

I should just play the Legendary Edition, right?
Yes, Andromeda just isn't a Mass Effect game. And by god is it cringe in places. The dialogue is awful!

It just reminds of those shitty CW shows.

I've tried around ten times to go back and play it through, I just can't. It's pure bunk.

The gameplay and setting is okay-ish, mabye good. But do have enough spare time for "maybe good"? Is it good enough if there's probably games out there being better when it comes to sci-fi shooting and exploring?

Dialogue and characters are very Joss Whedon-esque. Some of it resulting from the lack of the military theme established in ME1–3. In Andromeda you're explorers, path finders. So it's obvious there's a tonal change. Still, it feels like a bunch of teenagers came to together and they have to proof themselves over dialogue rather than actions. Let alone weird idiolects to give characters more... personality, I guess? I guess it works if you're into romantasies with edgy teenagers and young adults.

Personally, I wouldn't spend my time on it.

ME3 was awesome. Ok, sidequests took place in multiplayer maps and could be repetitive, but the controls of 3 was the best of the trilogy. I also enjoyed the horde mode MP. And the SP was quite good. ME3 actually resolved a lot of things, its just that many gamers hated the conclusion. But for me this trilogy is about the journey. Its just fun playing them back to back, making different choices each time.

Ok, so Mass Effect 1 & 2 are some of my favorite games. I was a hardcore WoW player in X360 era and I mostly remember two other games besides WoW - Bioshock and Mass Effect. Finished both games on Insanity.

Now, I never finished ME3, I think I probably played less than 5 hours of it, don't really know why.

So now both the Legendary Edition and Andromeda are on sale. Mind you I will play them exclusively on Steam Deck (why does this still have the shit EA Launcher) - is Andromeda really as bad? I played maybe 1-2 hours of it years ago, remember the fighting being better than in the past games ; remember stupid scanning for no fucking reason ; remember stupid enemies and that shit allied race of some pink bipedal whales.

Fuck, I should just play the Legendary Edition, right?
