Sony Announces Helldivers 2 Film in Production

Does that mean you’d rather games that don’t feel like movies to become movies?
I rather have original concepts or ideas instead of rehashing great movies because somebody is greedy as fuck.

Starship Troopers is nigh on perfect. The only reason to rehash something like that is because of money. It has nothing to do with creativity or passion for the art of filmmaking.

We already got Starship Troopers, and I doubt a Helldivers movie can top it given how Hollywoke is really playing it safe making movies for their modern audience.

I'm gonna watch this, but if they wanted to set a bunch of money on fire, they could just have just given me some instead?

Nice to see Helldivers getting some recognition at least.

You are angry because of passion for the art?

At least they didn’t try to make Starship Troopers into a game.

If you guys think they have a shot at making a movie better than Paul Verhoeven, the director of Starship Troopers, Robocop and Total Recall ... well, get excited I guess.

"Good luck."
- Morgan Freeman

Its impossible. They did those Robocop and Total Recall remakes, and its clear there is only 1 Paul Verhoeven. His sarcasm and black humour style is unique.

Even Showgirls really isn't that bad. Just misunderstood at the time.

Anything after Starship Trooper 1 was shit and i doubt a Helldivers movie would have a good story. Will probably be another bang-bang-explosions turn brains off Michael Bay like movie. Not a bad thing, but i'm done with those.

I quite liked the Roughneck series at the time, not sure how it holds up now.
To be fair, animated shows not aimed towards children were far less common then than today, so that could've been that more so than the content itself. I know it was tonally different than the 1st film though.

Oh wow. Like forever ? Huh
You will never watch another “bang-bang-explosions” movie again?

Of course i do, but only when we are several people and a story movie doesn't make any sense, because pople are talking all the time anyways. But alone or with just one or two others not, they bore me.

I have to admit i didn't even know there was a show. I thought only the movies and those sucked after 1.

It's probably on YouTube or something. I think it only had one season. It was more faithful to the Heinlein novel than the actual movie, if memory serves.

TLOU TV show 10/10
Uncharted Movie 8/10
Gran Turismo movie 7/10

That's how I rate what I've seen so far so I'm signed up for TLOU S2, Horizon/Helldivers. I really hope they make an Uncharted 2 movie someday. Not into anime so won't be watching ghost of Tsushima.

The reason Verhoeven's Starship Troopers film worked so well was because it was clearly taking the piss out of the source material.
If they did a new adaptation of the book, the end result would be a very different film in tone.

A game with barebones lore, getting a writer now to actually make it palatable for wider audience, will come up with some random shit that doesnt connect with gamers nor random folks. Movies like Max Payne, Uncharted, Borderlands that have decades of cult following flopped. What is helldivers...an online shooter with 3% story? Id say this is SONY just doing some money laundering because they have way deeper franchises that could translate into a movie. Might as well just do a Concord movie, it would have the same treatment.

Bro Starship Troopers literally exists as a blueprint. Just make it a newer Starship Troopers. Keep the gore, keep the satire, keep the cool sci-fi.

and keep the tits

There is 0 chance Paul Verhoeven would even consider doing this. 0.

Well he is almost 90, so you are probably right.

He's working on his own movie and isn't a director for hire. PV chooses his projects very carefully. Since the studio screwed him over with the Hollow Man cut, he only makes more artistic movies in Europe. He's still as great as he ever was and is now developing a US movie. Very interesting ideas behind that movie ;).

While I learned to appreciate the game when playing with friends, I still totally despise the lore. It's like a 5th grader-level fanfic of Starship Troopers - utterly tin eared.

Why? There is already starship troopers they absolutely copied in the game. I like this game for exact this reason (funny that there never was such a starship troopers game before) but making a movie from this is a bit ....
This game isn't about a real story and it really doesn't need it. How should a movie work other than copying starship troopers again.
