Sony removes PS5 Pro Enhanced label from MLB The Show 25 after people already pre-ordered the game

“While the game runs smoothly on the PlayStation 5 Pro, it does not include any exclusive enhancements or features beyond the standard performance,” the FAQ reads. PS Store has since removed the tag from MLB: The Show 25’s page.

If you already pre-ordered hoping for a Pro version, you’re out of luck as it’s already pre-loaded and you can’t refund a downloaded game.

Maybe the threat of a class action lawsuit for false advertising will get them to have San Diego Studio get a Pro patch fast.
It was even still listed as Pro enhanced a couple of days ago when I updated the pro enhanced games thread

This team is downright lazy and their games used to be ambitious and now they don’t even bother

The series hasn’t had any major improvements since the ps3 era
The multiplat deal was the worst thing that could have happened. They sell more than ever and do less. Even now that they stopped making last gen the switch version gives them an out. Time for an overhaul

there is nothing else to preorder.
but I was making a fun at the title word butter anyway
It's going to sell more copies on both Xbox and PlayStation. Now that it's off gp more xbox players will buy and a lot of them that have both that were playing the gp version for the last few years will go back to and buy on PlayStation. You basically have no choice unless you're on PlayStation and want to import PBS and use a translator app

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Most likely part of the MLB deal they probably can't give PlayStation extra features but this should be a gray area.

That sounds extremely dumb and there is a 0 to 0.1% chance of it being true.

MS is putting Pro enhancements in their PS5 games, what possible rationale would MLB have to mandate Sony not put Pro upgrades on their own developed game?

Honestly what would be enhanced? If it runs at native 4K60 on base consoles I’m wondering what they could add.
Ray tracing wouldn’t make a difference as it’s absent in damn near all sports games available on the market.
Would 120fps make a difference?
8K 30fps mode?

Pro Enhanced versions of the other sports games just combine the Performance and Quality modes, but I’m sure those aren’t present in MLB The Show.

There’s more GPU power. Use it however, leaving it on the table shows lack of commitment.

All the fault of having it on Xbox. This would not have happened if the MLB hadn't mandated it.

You couldn't expect much from the Studio, which has been stuck in graphics for a generation, and the lack of competition has caused it to go from being a benchmark among sports games to just another one on the shameful bandwagon of milking users with simple updates at the price of a new game.

In general, sports games have been my biggest disappointment this generation. In all previous generations, they always stood out for their graphical leap compared to the previous one.

A first party game releasing without PS5 Pro support after the PS5 Pro came out is a terrible look but I expect nothing less from this Hulst clown show.
That's shitty. How in the hell are all first party Sony studio developed games not Pro enhanced at this point?
I think we're better spending that energy when it's not about the one studio with the tightest production pipeline BY FAR (yearly releases, sudden multiplatform shift). For all it's worth, the patch was probably not ready for release. Shame on Sony for advertising it, though.
Blaming Hulst is crazy, it's not like he's personally managing San Diego Studio, lol.

This series has prob evolved the least out of all sports games even if pro enhanced i doubt it'll wpuldve been much more than a reso and framerate bump

Very interested to see how the xbox version does since it's no longer on gamepass for the 1st time.

Higher fidelity, higher quality assets, PSSR, 60+ fps with VRR etc.
If it’s native 4K, the only other option is an 8K mode. That would probably be the only use for PSSR. As for 60fps+ with VRR, why not just do a 120fps mode lowering resolution on all next-gen consoles.

I fear the game itself deserves criticism, but the lack of a Pro enhanced version is a nothing burger right now. With them dropping last gen support they should’ve went harder for all consoles. Hopefully the Switch 2 will allow that official next-gen jump for them.

Series S is still supported.

It's true. MS is only doing it because it's bad for PlayStation and MS doesn't need the money.
Imagine buying anything and then being told that what you bought is the 'base' model and objectively inferior to a new 'pro' model.
Even if you couldn't tell the difference between the gameplay in a side-by-side, you'd think less of your PS5 and every game you played on it.
The collective PS5 UX as a whole takes a significant hit just by virtue of knowing a 'pro' console exists.

This franchise was going downhill long before the multiplat deal. Follows the same trend virtually every other major sports title followed. Larger emphasis on microtransactions and money making modes, less emphasis on anything else. EA going out of the MLB game was the best thing that ever happened to them. They copied a lot of MVP Baseball’s elements and 2k’s baseball titles went to shit.

Personally I don’t see why no Pro enhancements is that big a deal. Don’t get me wrong, it’s wrong to advertise it and then remove it after people have preordered, but what enhancements can there really be? It’s baseball.

I would say that's true but things have gotten worse since.

Coincidentally, they are multiplat
but what enhancements can there really be? It’s baseball.
They are fighting a rep of not updating the game in years. Some of it is spot on and deserved and some isn't. I prefer that they improve the gameplay while most people complain about animations and graphics. This was an easy opportunity to appease some buyers without an overhaul.
