Sony reveals price for its first car 'Afeela' that comes with an built-in PS5

We caught our first glimpses of the Afeela exactly a year ago at CES 2024. With the Afeela still in its infancy, Sony took to the stage, highlighting the vehicle's design, entertainment capabilities, and, of course - AI integration features.

The division of labor between the two brands was simple: Honda built the architecture, and Sony took care of the tech. Fast forward a year to CES 2025, and we've taken a closer look at the technical features in Sony's answer to Tesla. What's among them is impressive - AI-enhanced self driving, screens that span the entire dashboard, Sony's signature noise-cancelling technology, a 'media bar' allowing you to display messages on the front bumper.

But the most important of all: is being able to play Baldur's Gate 3 on your commute through your on-board PlayStation 5. Sony did not specify exactly how, and where the console is accessed. However, one would assume it's through one of the many large screens located on the interior.

Sony's introduction into the electric vehicle market is exactly as you'd expect: visually stunning, with incredible sound, and packed with gadgets. For a brand we've come to associate with gaming consoles, televisions, and headphones, it's certainly fitting that these competencies are pulled together in this package.

The Afeela 1 will be made available in mid 2026, with prices for the Afeela 1 Origin, and Afeela 1 Signature, starting from $89,900 and $109,900, respectively.

Ah.. Not another with digital mirrors. This is such a waste as the mirrors do almost nothing for the range. Instead they just introduce new problems (dirty/wet cameras, only work when the software works, lag, ...). It is much cheaper, effective and easier to just use classic mirrors.

Why so many screens? Also such a waste.

And an integrated PS5? Is this upgradeable to a ps6 or must I buy a new car in a few years?

And well I don't understand why to integrate such gaming devices into a car. Just creates additional problems.

Also there must be more physical buttons in a car to directly get something done. I have a id.3 and I really miss buttons to blindly control some functions. I must always look on the display if the desired action was a success. I really don't understand why they banned physical buttons since Tesla did it. Yes it looks cooler, but you need more attention to activate something which means less attention for the street. Also those actions just need longer.

The pricing of this car will easily kill the project. If you're asking around 100k for an EV your car should feel special. Lucid managed to do that.

Not to mention they're pushing a bs subscription service on top of the ridiculous price.

I won't lie... I LOVE those side mirror cameras and how large they are and I think more cars should start doing it like that going forward, the only gripe is what is going on with the size of the bezels of the displays. 😂

I actually like it.

I know it and you know it. Every 64 times you turn on this car for some reason left "mirror" won't turn on. And every 128 times middle "mirror" won't turn on, and you will have to reboot the car. Oh, and every 1024 times you have to manually reboot with a switch under the hood. And once every 8 months you will enter your car to find a system message on all screens that it attempted to update firmware during the night, but lost the connection, and now you must perform some system maintenance.

Wonder if EVs will really be the future, I've seen many friends avoiding those in favor of hybrid or petrol.

In Europe they're going down. Because they just raised the taxes on them, I read its right now even more expensive per km han a car with petrol. These taxes are weight based, and those batteries alone are like 400 kilograms. Not to mention the environmental question of what to do with retired vehicles and their batteries? And what about the Lithium needed for these products?

Also, with electric you usually get less mileage, and then you need to charge a good time. With petrol you load up and continue. This causes other problems like people charging between 4 and 9 causing overload on the network. Or those asshats that keep their car hooked up to a public charger all night.

These vehicles are a scam really.
