The battle at the end was pretty cool, though it irked me a little to see Tiberius fighting and killing the hardened badass pirates and Spartacus' guys. His ass was immediately whupped by Crassus' sword instructor, yet I'm supposed to believe that he could hold his own against pirates and former gladiators? wut

Crassus' instructor was a champion of the arena that was purchased at great cost.

The guys Tiberius killed were probably not even gladiators. A lot of the slaves they've recruited and trained for their army used to be miners or do other manual labor.

Why not just tell them he was betraying them and sought to kill him? It just came across as such blatant character device designed to demonise her to the audience

Because she's covering her own ass. She has no proof that he's betraying them, she knows he's Gannicus' friend, and she has only her mistrust of Romans to go by. I think the demonization of her character mirrors the experiences she's been through though, don't think it's totally out of left field or out of character. Hoping that she's going to die soon since they seem to be playing on the fact that nobody likes her anymore. Maybe Gannicus will kill her when she goes off the deep end and he finds out that Attius was innocent.



I don't see Spartacus and his crew as complete villains. I've actually grown a lot fonder of Spartacus this season, and sympathize with him more (aka trying to remain noble in the face of perhaps necessary savagery). Gannicus too. Crixus and Naevia however... there's a clear rift forming.

I don't think Spartacus is the villain, things just got more... realistic or grey. Rapes, mindless killing, etc are an (unfortunate) consequences of war, especially when you lead an army of unorganized brutes. If anything, i thought S2 deception of war was pretty silly and black and white most of the times.

Some thoughts about the characters:

- Naevia has been constantly terrible, yeah. I blame the actress. Like it wasn't enough, she bringing down Crixus character.
- I like Agron, but Agron/Nasir is pretty meh to me. I really don't like Nasir and i don't think they have much chemistry.
- Spartacus has been much better this season, maybe because he had more things to work with compared to last season.

Meh. The first season and the prequel were so good because they, at times, managed to make the violence and sex meaningful by tying them to important character and plot points. The first couple episodes of the show didn't bother to, and it was rightfully panned as stupid and lazy and ridiculous. It's also why the first episode of this season was so good. The fights between Crassus and his slave told us a lot about him. The violence was meaningful.

And I have no problem with accusing the writers of falling into laziness here and there. Season 2 was pretty lazy as a whole.

Its funny that if it wasnt for Crassus Jr's intervention the pirates would have burned the slaves after the deal had gone south. And yeah, kinda shitty what they are doing to some characters like Naevia and other slaves just to make the romans more appealing for the sake of the spin-off. Gannicus is gonna get a really interesting arc this season. Am I the only one that assumed that Saxa was forcing the girl?

Hmm not getting all the hate for this season, I don't know guess it's just me, but this is probably tied with the prequel/season 1 for me. I couldn't stand season 2, but this one is keeping me on the edge of my seat. The last episode might have been a tad weak because of the lack of badass Romans, but I think when Caesar/Crassus finally clash with the rebels, the season will be even better.

Wonder if the writers are going to leave the pirate "betrayal" as a simple misunderstanding of historians, or actually have the pirates betray Spartacus later on. I think it would be cooler if that's left as a kind of historical reinterpretation.

This episode actually made me like Tiberius, he showed kindness to the soldier to the roman soldier and was visibly upset when Caesar killed him, he also assesed the possibility of the alliance quickly although the plan went sideways due not assuming the pirates had siege weapons.
