You're delusional if you think a game of this caliber won't be a GOTY-contender.I don't think anyone is doubting the team. I know I'm personally still looking forward to playing it, eventually, and would be very surprised if I didn't enjoy it.
I just don't see how anyone looks at it and legitimately thinks it's a true game of the year contender.
And yet I'm the one rumored to have spawned off illegitimate xbox fanboy children?
![]()
Well, we'll see I suppose. I think it's obvious it'll be in some conversations, as will almost every game that has an average of 8 or higher (including Starfield and even The Game That Shall Not Be Named), but it won't be on most finalized lists and won't win the actual award of the vast majority of sites and publications. You mean this ...
it's the same as people who watched literally any gameplay of Starfield and thought it would be a gamechanger. It looked and sounded like Fallout in Space, yet people were trying to call it a Game of the Year. That was clearly a case of fanboys hoping that Xbox could pull out a massive win. This is the same as that, with Sony (especially because Sony hasn't had that strong of a year).
In other words, to look at footage of the gameplay, other Game of the Year contenders, and how Game of the Year awards are usually handled... the educatedguess is that it will not be a contender. I'd love to see a compelling argument for why it seems otherwise.
That tells me absolutely nothing about Spider-Man. The previous post didn't either, except (it's more of the same). Plenty of GOTY contenders (and winners) were more of the same. I see nothing stopping Spider-Man 2 from being in the conversation.
I have a confession to make. It's my greatest mistake

I'm comparing highly-anticipated first-party games that are (at least seemingly) heavily derivative of their predecessors, particularly in context of being nominated for Game of the Year. I would include Breath of the Wild in this conversation as well, but that game, according to the general consensus, added elements that made it feel like something new and uncommonly good.why do you keep bringing up Starfield in a preview thread for Spider-Man 2?![]()
Spider-man 2 is going to be more spider-man!? Well no shit. What were you expecting? A racing game?
Totally agree it'll take a lot to dethrone Arkham City, for me it's the perfect super hero gameThat's a damn high bar looking at the past Batman games. But if Insomniac can pull off that feat then yeah, I can see the game getting some awards at the end of the year.
Maybe a different city? Or multiple locations/world traversal through the game? Or something fun/crazy like some Spider-Verse madness? Or I dunno, any type of twist that makes this seem like a major leap over the last game(s)?
I'm just not seeing a major leap in this ala Uncharted 1 > 2 or Last of Us 1 > 2 or any number of other titles that made large leaps with their sequels.
It'll be fun and I'm looking forward to it and I'm going to play it, but not a single thing I've seen so far has made me *excited* to play day one.
With your standards for critical hits this shouldn't be a problem for you. I'm sure it will make your list.
Ya'll are so sensitive lol. I promise my lack of excitement won't sour your experience.
I'm sure the game will be great and hell yeah it'll make my list
Then what's your issue?
Game will be great but your not excited for it. I'm always excited for good games.
I already shared why I'm not feeling the hype right now. Feel free to read it.
I'll probably be playing this game. I played both previous games, but they didn't really grab me. This one looks more promising, at least right now it does.Maybe a different city? Well then your not excited to play a good game for whatever reason.
You're honestly excited to play every good game that comes out?
There's plenty of good/great games that simply haven't excited me or aren't my jam. Just over the last year there's been Street Fighter 6, Armored Core VI, Elden Ring, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, etc.. etc..
You should have just said that Spiderman isn't your type of game and that you won't be playing it.
No need to make it confusing.

Spider-Man is my type of game. Sequels that appear derivative and lacking innovation don't get me hyped up.
Again, I'm sure it'll be great, and I will be playing it, but I'm not personally feeling the hype for it thus far.
So why are you not excited for a good game?
You don't have to go full hype for it but if it's your type of game and it's good there's reason for excitement.
If I know a game will be bad or it isn't my type of game I'm not excited for it. That's what I assumed your case was.
I've already shared why I'm not excited.
I feel like we're just going in circles now so I'm going to disengage.

After watching this, I don't think we are ready for Wolverine.

Uncharted 2 adds better graphics and animations, better set-pieces, and tighter controls, compared to the original. That's it, really.
Wow the hype is massive and growing
This is a game my guy. If you make the buildings to scale it would take too long to traverse and explore. It's like this in every game. It's not that they couldnt do it. It's that they chose not toBit of a random thought here: but one thing I still find myself slightly underwhelmed by in these games is the visual sense of scale from the player's perspective.
I see a shot like this from one of the movies and the sense of height and scale is immense:

Yet in the games the buildings still feel small by comparison when looking from the bottom up or top down. It doesn't feel vast, better than ever before, sure... but not a patch on the shots above. This is primarily a function of of camera focal length, fov, placement and a few other lesser elements.
Of course, in a movie they have full control over these things to maximise the effect and games in contrast have to utilise them in a practical way for gameplay. Yet at the same time I still wish they could loosen these constraints a little and push more for visual scale. I also wonder if the buildings/environment are really to scale relative to the player character model; Even with all these other elements taken into account, I get a feeling the ratio is smaller than it would be in real life.
The matrix awakens demo is the only thing that has come close in terms of building scale. If you stand at the bottom of some of them and look up; the sense of scale is unlike any other games I've seen.
The visuals get better and better but that organic, epic sense of wonder by way of scale is still missing.
Doesn't Sony own the rights to Spider-Man?I'll probably be playing this game. I played both previous games, but they didn't really grab me. This one looks more promising, at least right now it does.
I think asking for a different city is a hard ask, it is Spider-Man after all. He is based in NY just like Batman is based in Gotham city. They did add 2 new burrows, but I feel like Marvel still have a firm hold on the direction for these games. We might get to swing about in a future Spider-Man game, but I think it's a little early for Marvel to allow that. I do agree tho, a Spider-Verse thing would have been very cool, but again it's probably a Marvel call, just my speculation.
I've never really understood why Uncharted 2 was considered to be such a massive improvement over the first. It's very much more of the same, just refined and with better graphics.Uncharted 2 adds better graphics and animations, better set-pieces, and tighter controls, compared to the original. We've technically already experienced those things in both Miles Morales and Spider-Man Remastered.Theres even a bigger difference here because of the use of the PS5 hardware. Almost instant loading, faster traversal through the city. instant fast traversal to any part of the city. These are pretty big Leaps over Spider-man.

I've also never understood why Uncharted 3 is considered to be inferior to 2.
I think Sony "owns" the film/game rights to use Spider-man, but they don't actually "own" the Spider-Man IP, if that makes sense. It's like an exclusive licensing deal. So my guess is that ultimately Marvel has a say.Doesn't Sony own the rights to Spider-Man?
Wouldn't that mean that Marvel doesn't have a say in the matter?

Yeah, but since Sony was going to be pull Spider-Man out of the MCU when they got into that back and forth with Disney, wouldn't it possible that it’s more than just exclusive licensing?I think Sony "owns" the film/game rights to use Spider-man, but they don't actually "own" the Spider-Man IP, if that makes sense. Could be the case. I looked into it and it's very confusing. Someone owns "Amazing Spider-Man" but then someone else owns "A way home" it seems to be all over the place.Yeah, but since Sony was going to be pull Spider-Man out of the MCU when they got into that back and forth with Disney, wouldn't it possible that it’s more than just exclusive licensing?
I believe it’s a bit of a confusing situation regarding the Spider-Man IP.

Let’s just hope it has a longer campaign, the first one was one of the shortest play throughs I’ve had in a game in a long time.
