Star Citizen Gamescom presentation [Over]

I'm not sure why they are still doing the roleplay banter...
Maybe it just helps them keep track of where they are in the live demo.

At this point in the game's development (acknowledging it has a dev cycle that is way longer than other games) we'd get a nice CG trailer, if anything, for other games.

Hell we got a Cyberpunk 2077 trailer back in 2012.

Games take time to make, especially when you need to staff a studio to make it.

Because otherwise we're talking about development of a project of this scale with only like 10-40 people for a portion of that.

Come on now, CIG worked for years with a huge number of contractors. Around 2015 they decided to switch gears because they assumed that contract work wasn't paying off and instead chose to increase their own foot print.

Back in 2013 you'd ask someone when production started since they were getting close to 2014 and SQ42 still felt a long ways off and you'd have the zealots proclaim production started in 2011 so dont worry they've been working for some time now. That became inconvenient when its fucking 2017 and they are going to miss SQ42s release date again. At around 2015 people started saying that the real heavy lifting started in 2013. Now people want to convince everyone that production ACTUALLY started in 2015.

They've been showing off a small portion of 3.0 live for 3 days and the shit was breaking constantly. Cutting down the amount of players, rehearsing their actions over and over again to not trigger problem areas is 100% likely. That the game crash meant that they triggered something they weren't expecting.

Its not fake, its just not at all indicative of the state of the game as it is. Normal play would probably have killed both of them trying to climb a ramp or something

Oh I completely understand what they are doing. That was my point. Even when live demos are happening ppl don't understand that they are still rehearsed and everything is in a state of constant instability. But it seems to be cool to shit on all the hard work. Its just a double edged sword for them, damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I like their mismatch, where she's desperately clinging to the script and he is like "THIS IS NOW A SPEEDRUN I REPEAT THIS IS NOW A SPEEDRUN".

So why are they having to repeat steps like that video call?

My guess - the demo has been worked through multiple times over to make sure they show off the features properly. The banter is sorta hokey, but keeps them on track for what comes next.

So I guess there is no mid-mission persistence? If the game crashes during a mission, you just have to start over?

There is, but keep in mind this is still buggy as heck.. They don't have recovery methods in place for reconnecting or are still working on it.

Yeah sure hate posting when viewing a presentation of a game crash right in front of us and the developer even kinda "brags" about that they had lots of bugs earlier but not this one.

Tell me one other live demo presentation that would not be ripped to shreds if the same happened to it.

Anyone who rips a game to shreds because of bugs and crashes mid-development is a moron. It might be a cause for alarm two weeks before the game goes live but even then, I've seen games make dramatic turnarounds in stability and performance in two weeks. Shit happens and people need to put things into perspective, this is at least a year or two from release.

Ultimately I blame the AAA industry for calling their early access events "playable alpha tests" a month or two before release.

I'm not one of those people. Late 2013 sounds reasonable given the number of employees they had at the time. 40 sounds like the bare minimum for a project of this magnitude and they've scaled up significantly since then.

22 minute delay and counting.

CIG's own dates (which took this into account and were made public after the studios were setup) had Star Citizen Ep 1 at end of 2016.

Yep, who knows how much of the presentation is left after the part where they crashed.

Fingers crossed no crashes when they hit that FTL/warp whatever terminology for fast traveling in space! :)

Hope when he engages the speed the two standing go flying to the back of the ship lmao

And as we all know by now, CIG is absolutely horrible at anything related to dates. You can take any of their predictions, double the time, and they might be close to done by then.

Doesn't make the project a scam or the developers any less enthusiastic though.

I remember when I backed this for a modern Wing Commander inspired campaign...

It's not even going to get demo'd today is it?

Hoping for a demo of that at CitizenCon. It's called Squadron 42, they've stayed away from pretty much anything regarding it for awhile now.

You wont hear the 2 week alarm for CIG till they are doing a seed invest to get more money to continue production and by then you are going to end up with another shroud of the avatar in your hands again. What then, Alexander? What horrible crowd funded game with big dreams and horrible management will you back then?

All I'll say is that if this game ever comes out and they are able to realize their vision without all of the jank my god it's going to be amazing, it will truly shake up the gaming world.
