Starship Troopers remake in the works at Sony

IDKFA

I am Become Bilbo Baggins
The book and the 1997 film adaptation are very different.

If this is an adaptation that's truer to the novel then I'm all for it. What I don't want to see is a shot for shot remake of the film. That would be pointless.

The remakes done so far on Verhoevens movies have been absolute dogshit. Total Recall and Robocop was nothing but a slap in the face on all of us who loved those films. And now they are setting out to ruin his best work? Leave Verhoevens legacy alone!

Dude wrote a novel 260 characters at a time but what he's saying is unexpectedly profound

He did make some good points. But I still think ST is good satire.

Like being a non-citizen was actually not so bad. he might be right about that economically. except non-citizens still pay taxes and cannot vote against the industrial war machine. so we can see why the fascist government doesn't have a problem with them - they want enthusiastic fighters/voters and a docile non-citizen class.

I also feel like he misses the point that everyone in the film is subjected to the propaganda from a young age, so it's not surprising that we're never shown the main characters feeling bad about their actions. but there are plenty of hints throughout the film that much of what is being repeated by the characters are simply not true, they've just been propagandized. and I think this critique, along with others made in the film do hold up.

Madam Web is a softporn movie without sex. Hilariously bad.

This atrocity would not be it, unfortunately.

People who don't see the wild satire that ST was lack any reading comprehension, seriously. The plot is all over the place, they are just confused because usually satires are banal and poorly written with unlikeable characters.

In ST, people are treated exactly like bugs. They are first presented as "Aryan race ideals" and then tossed into the grinder, where they aren't human anymore. In the battlefield, they behave, and even run, like insects, the invasion shots are very explicit. It's unbelievable that there exist people who don't get it, my lord.

And until I read this thread my biggest fear about a remake was pg-13 !!!! 😳😂🙈

Can’t see them making a better movie than the original, even if they go more faithful to the book (explaining the 3 sides and that one supplies weapons to the bugs, the power suits and attack tactics of jumping in lines, the novels main character, etc ….) I can’t see them getting someone to make it work and hang together

I’ll stick the original on with a robocop double bill and feel like I am about 12 years old again (maybe even a watch of the first two predators is in order)

Guess you never know, but I’m not sure I would like to know more 😁😂

Speaking of seminal sci-fi war classics, whatever happened to "The Forever War"?

Steakley's ARMOR would be a good one as well, though it has a lot of similarities to these other two.

BOLO, Hammer's Slammers, Man-Kzin wars, my personal fav is Hinz's Paratwa saga, which I'm SHOCKED hasn't been optioned by Peter Dinklage as it was almost tailor made for him.

Anyway, so many great classics out there. Even Chung-Kuo novels seem PERFECT for a slow-burn prestige tv show and it allows for a heavily Asian cast (and kinda maybe predicts the end goal of the CCP).

Edge of Tomorrow armor was really cool too.

imagine the group shower scene in the remake for modern audiences...... barfs

this is guaranteed to be ass since they have no idea the movie is a SATIRE

Ive always wanted to see Shirows armor from Appleseed in live action. The pilot is in the belly and has full use of the arms, the mecha mimics it. Both Matrix3 and avatar kinda had something similar, but nit quite. It seems more 'real' versus a set of joysticks that somehow mimic hands and arms. IIRC robotech uses a neural link helmet, as does battle tech and heavy gear (another property I'd love to see, both for the story and the gear).

I hear Toby maguire blew his Spiderman money on trying to adapt Robotech. Clearly it never happened, but that is a documentary worth a watch if he actually had concept art and storyboards.

Clearly iron man and pacific rim show that live action mecha can work well beyond the Robot Jox level. Move on from capeshit to mechs!
