Stellar Blade studio Shift Up has gifted all of its employees a PlayStation 5 Pro and an end-of-year bonus following the success of the PS5 action game.

The consoles were presented to Shift Up’s around 300 employees at a company event held in Seoul on Monday. Each employee will receive a bonus of 5 million won (about $3,400), it said.

Speaking to the South Korean publication Naver, a Shift Up representative said the bonuses were intended to encourage the existing talent at the company.

The thing with Shiftup is that they are already successful at doing GaaS Gatcha. But the heads of the company clearly look upon that business model as a necessary evil and wants to go 'legit".

Stellar Blade would make much less money for more effort than past Gatcha games. But the studio might be aiming for greater things than loot boxes.

There are many games in Asia that would otherwise be great games on their own, but because their financial plan was loot boxes and slot machines what could have been a great game would get buried by the gatcha mechanics. i don't know how long Shiftup can keep this up, but I hope their dream of being a legit studio that doesn't require them to exploit their customers , bare even more fruit in the future.

I think (hope) they want to do both. The big money from gachas help fund the non predatory game(s) which, assuming it's received well and has good sales (which Stellar Blade did), will bring more eyeballs to their company as a whole which then brings attention to their gacha game(s) from gamers that otherwise would ignore them and in turn more money for the company. Lather, rinse, repeat.

In any event, congrats to the company for it's success and well done throwing some love to the people that made them successful. Now, hurry the hell up with the PC release!!!

Good stuff. I enjoy reading and hearing of folks taking care of others. Not sure what the game is, but good on them and great news for the team.
