I kinda hope they don't grow too fast or big and just maintain. Far too many companies grow and hire massively, so rewards like this no longer happen and, more importantly, vision gets lost with too make cooks. If they're a private company, even better. Just maintain and cruise. Everyone can be happy.

I've worked in small companies that grew and man, smaller days were just better. Later days were fun but way more drawbacks.

Looks like Stellar Blade has some good legs. :messenger_smirking:

In a recent financial report, Shift Up said that after Stellar Blade’s launch “sales continued at a stabilized level,” although it failed to provide an updated sales figure. It did, however, provide revenue directly attributed to the game: 25.8 billion won (approx. $18.5 million) during the quarter Stellar Blade came out (April to June), and 22.5 billion won (approx. $16.1 million) during the company’s third quarter (July to September). That’s a total of 48.4 billion won (around $34.6 million) as of the end of September. For context, Shift Up’s other game, mobile action RPG Goddess of Victory: Nikke, makes more money than Stellar Blade (approx. $51.9 million during the same two quarters).

This might be a bit off-topic, but do you have any advice about finding smaller companies that are good to work for?

Giving employees money and gift as a thank you for their hard work....damn that's lame.

If I was the head of Shift UP, I would of given them enough money for several months worth of pizza to order in office and an XboX Series S. A note left at the bottom of the box stating "If you don't get this game running on series S in 6 months you are fired". It's called investing into your future of your business.

I'm joking. Congrats to Shift UP for an excellent 2024!

I don't have the best advice. Startups could be good but keep hopping around (unless you really like it/get comfortable). For younger folks, hopping around just pays much better whether it's small, mid or big companies. Once companies get big, it naturally becomes harder to please everyone, stuff like free PS5s can reduce or stripped away, more drama. It's definitely worse for public companies. I also hear small private companies can also be nightmare if the owner is terrible too though.

All the angry western devs after seeing this news...

Very true my friend. I am sure those western devs are screeching about how many women died because of this sexist game that exploits women lol. Keep these types games coming so that it makes all those idiot western devs heads explode. The success of this game is a perfect example of what gamers want and also a big F You to all the weirdo western devs and the ugly women they insist on putting in their woke games. Very nice to see this studio appreciate the employees and give them a console AND a nice bonus.

Great game that took me by surprise... I originally thought it looked like anime crap at first but I played the demo and was hooked.

Shows the effectiveness of demos!!! As quite a number of friends and family changed their tune after the demo too.

Stellar Blade studio Shift Up has gifted all of its employees a PlayStation 5 Pro and an end-of-year bonus following the success of the PS5 action game.

The consoles were presented to Shift Up’s around 300 employees at a company event held in Seoul on Monday. Each employee will receive a bonus of 5 million won (about $3,400), it said.

Speaking to the South Korean publication Naver, a Shift Up representative said the bonuses were intended to encourage the existing talent at the company.

Meanwhile, in America, my employer gave me a promotion with no raise or bonus and made me work during weekends and scheduled PTO last month.

Happy for them.
Western quarterly capitalism has made companies so nakedly tight-fisted that it's crazy. I was asking a friend the other day "when was the last time you got a really good coupon offer from a big company? One where you're absolutely benefitting and the company's losing out a little." The amount of times I'll get 'Save $30!" (when you spend $150 or more on super select items that you don't want and we can't sell - offer ends tomorrow.)
