I love Pokken!
Need Smug in final 8. The amount of gifs he gives us

Is this Fuudo's year?
I would be so happy if he won, but EVO is going to be a bloodbath and considering SFV swings trends to random results on short sets, anybody can take you out at any time. Fuudo's chances are as good as KnuckleDu's I feel.

The only prediction I feel any confidence in is that an Ibuki is going to win the tourney. All eyes on Xian.

Looking forward to see how it performs compared to last year and E-League.

My boy will MURDER everyone
Tokido-Feature.png

Tokido has yet to win a tournament. So his chances are pretty low.

Come on LI Joe
I believe in the dream

LI Joe got 0-7'd at Eleague. It'd be one hell of a miracle to make it happen again.

Unlike last year, America is primed to be represented in the Top 8. So far only Xian has been able to get a win on US soil, which is 1 out of 5 american CPT premiers.

Will the ESPN2 broadcast in any way negatively affect the live streams?
I remember this SFV event a couple of weeks ago that was also shown on US TV and all we streaming ppl got to see was a barebones stream without any pre/post match stuff.

I mean, it hasn't happened all year...but, any minute now that rumored Balrog/Laura train will be leaving the station!

Any minute now!
Brian_F vs Wolf Krone Grand Finals book it.

We'll be lucky to see even one Laura in top 8 tbh. If you want to rag on top tier characters that are gonna flood top 8 Necalli, Cammy, and Ibuki are probably your best bet. There's also a good chance we could see a few Mikas just because of Fuudo and Du.

I think Punk is pretty much the favorite to win right now but anything can happen. Personally I'd like to see Idom and Tokido in top 8 with Fuudo taking the whole thing but the chances of that happening are mighty slim.

They haven't revealed the CPT stage yet right? Hope it's not just a color swap of the Ring of Destiny.

(I really should buy that soon to "support the scene" but damn, I haven't touched that game since Ed came out, and that was only to play his story)

EVO last year sucked ass...
No crowd audio on SRK streams...(had to head over to some japanese streams to get the crowd audio)
On the finals day the audio got feedback from commentators voice in arena...
Hope it gets better this year...

How the ratings were last year? I'm kinda surprised ESPN decided to go again with it. This makes me a bit sad since I imagine what this could have ment for the FGC if SFV performed half of what SFIV did sales wise...
more casual gamers buying SFV to play mostly in SP mode wouldn't have done much for Espn and Evo, two completely different audiences really.

Looking forward to the show though...

lol I feel Laura and Balrog are much harder to defend online (especially Rog) and therefore feel more "cheap" than characters that are likely better than them, like Cammy, Ibuki, and Mika IMO.

Rog can actually be handled offline with skill, his comeback potential is stupid and he still needs a damage nerf, but he can be beat.

Nope. Streams should be what you normally expect from CPT streams. That's what it was like year. ESPN may have different commentators than the stream though.

If you thing that, you don't know how TV works, sir. That only works for ads.

Ever tried watching TV at 3 am and see those half hour long shows about a chicken cooker? Major League Soccer did not receive a rights fees for ESPN carrying games until 2007, even though games had aired beforehand for years before. That's because MLS bought the time slot.

A big tip off will be if the event has any ESPN branding, for the on air graphics and such. If not, that's a good indication that it is a fully in house production.

I work in radio and a local church buys an hour of air time from us every Sunday to broadcast their service, it's the same principle.

Just this year or you talking SF5 altogether? He won CEO 2016, and I think that tournament in France where they do that thing where the eliminated player walks off and unlocks a part of the safe with the trophy in it.

It's been a while, though, and sadly wouldn't bet on him even though I fucking love Tokido.

You will get your Urien, Laura, Karin and Mika and LIKE it sir.

Here's hoping we get a Gief from SnakeEyez in top 8.

Pfft hoping for Gief in top 8. I hope Snake Eyes takes the whole shit.

You forgot the potential for a Balrog.

I don't see smug top 8 this year. I do see Punk. PR Rog is playing a bit behind Smug as far as Rog play is concerned. There's potential for anyone in the roster to be top 8 except probably Alex IMO lol.

E-League finals a few months ago had over 335K viewers which was much higher than EVO on ESPN2 last year.

I stopped keeping up with the ratings after the first couple of weeks. Really glad to know that it did well. I'm not happy with a lot of decisions Capcom has made but I still like it and this is the only game I play. So I still want it to be as successful as possible.

It's too bad I couldn't watch Eleague live. Unfortunately I'm stuck at work during those hours. As for EVO, I don't have cable anymore so I'll just have to stick to the Twitch stream.

Yeah I don't think variety of characters are an issue. All these might hit top 8 in my opinion

Gief
Mika
Sim
Urien
Guile
Cammy
Ibuki
Karin
Laura
Rog

Unfortunately, I think Shotos will only be counter picks for top players. All 3 of em are a bit too weak IMO, with either Ken or Akuma still be viable, I don't know what they did to Ryu, but to go from #3 to dead last in one balance patch...That one really flew in the face of Capcom's don't heavily nerf philosophy.

Cause more people playing a game won't mean more potential people spectating the game as LoL has proven... Specially since the game promotes some cpt events.

The game should also be more fun to watch but I think most people would be entertained with Barlorg, Ibuki, Zangief, Mika and Laura...

Oh cool, that means we EU plebs will have to listen to the second tier commentators on Twitch again...

As if it's not already frustrating and challenging enough to feel like a front row seat viewer here with the time difference, the big risk of spoling yourself when trying to catch up due to video thumbnails and titles, and the subscriber only past broadcasts on Capcom's bloody official stream that make you have to wait for their slow youtube uploads (and hence risk spoiling yourself again).

Sigh...keep it universal and free, FGC.

I work in radio and a local church buys an hour of air time from us every Sunday to broadcast their service, it's the same principle.

MLS and ESPN accord to split the advertisement revenue. They also recived some right fees.

I know people that works on TV and no one buys timeslots for an event, TV show, etc. Timeslots are sold to ads or shows with comercial purpose. Why would you when you don't know how?

Don't know how radio works on the states, but from your words, your radio station must be local + not that big so I can understand them selling time to a church. I can see that happening on local tv too, but that's it.

ESPN knows eSport potential. It's not like EVO it's the first videogame event they aired. As someone pointed out, it's downtime season for most sports (Specially the ones with more following), so it's a great option to catch some viewers for few dollars (EVO and Capcom fees won't be anything special).

And why will EVO spend money to be on ESPN rather that other broadcaster that could be more affordabled (Like TBS, which also doubt they'd be able too). Sunday, ESPN2 and whatever you like, still a prime time slot.

That was Tokido with top tier Ryu last season. With Season 2/2.5 the game has been changed. Ryu got crippled and instead he is now using glass cannon Akuma and hasn't been able to score a win yet, outside of actually winning he's been doing relatively well placing in top 8.

He's still a force to be reckoned with, but I wouldn't place my hopes on him.
