Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Ok, I've got an HRAP that I put a Chtulu PCB into about 2 years ago that I use on my PS3. I'm planning on buying an Xbox 360 soon and was wondering about the easiest way to add 360 functionality. Are there still PCBs you can buy that work for both PS3 and 360? If so that would probably be best for me.

Hey there, Stick-Gaf.

I enjoy fighting games, but am a casual player. I play a few games on PC and had several on PS3. I'm not ready to purchase another stick as I already have 3, but the problem I'm running into is they do not currently work on PS4. I was hoping the Skullgirls driver would get implemented into PS4, or at least other games would utilize it but neither has happened. So my question:

Are there any adapters that I can purchase that would allow me to use my PS3 sticks on PS4?

any USB adapters introduce latency

The current best solution is to buy a Hori Fighting Commander Pro 4 and spend some time with a soldering iron. I know this isnt what you want to hear

As stated, the correct answer is not what you want to hear... Given the PS4's periodic controller authentication over bluetooth, all existing controllers/sticks/PCBs/adapters do not work as expected with the PS4.

Your only real solution is to pick up a Hori/Madcatz PS4 stick and use a Titan One converter to connect said PS4 stick to everything else.

any USB adapters introduce latency

Latest Titan One firmware is 1ms delay.

Thank you both for the info, I can handle the truth even if it isn't ideal! I think out of those options I'd rather pick up a new stick than solder, but right now neither is a priority for me. I will wait until either the existing driver is utilized or the purchase of a new stick is justified. Neither will happen anytime soon, I'm sure!

I'm probably in the minority, but I wonder how much revenue for devs/publisher/etc is left on the table because of this.

edit: So I was reading the Titan one reviews, and someone said they used it to connect an Xbox 360 stick to PS4. Even though that is possible, the PS3 stick to PS4 is not? Just my luck.

On the software side they don't see any of the peripheral sales money, so they don't care. Only time they would see money would be some kind of IP licensing deal on cosmetic graphics or something truly custom like the Steel Battalion controller.

Sony (now) cares as they saw all the licensing money coming into Microsoft from cracking down on controllers, plus the lack of truly shit 3rd party controllers. Wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo does the same next time around.

Technically speaking, you can connect any controller that works in Windows up to a PS4 via the Titan One. Because of the PS4's authentication and the Titan One's physical lack of a bluetooth chip, you plug an official PS4 controller into the Titan's controller port (for continuous auth), then use a Windows PC running Gtuner to send controller inputs to the Titan.

It's an ugly hack, but it works. Only real solution to make it truly plug and play requires a "2.0" re-architecture of the Titan One product (which is being worked on, but not available soon).

I guess I meant lost software sales due to peripherals not being compatible. In my case, I own peripherals that won't work with DOA: Last Round, for example. Because I'm not buying a new stick to play the game and refuse to play using a dualshock, the software sale will be lost. If I were on the sales side I would certainly care that someone isn't buying the game because they don't have a peripheral to play it. Especially since a driver exists that can solve this problem.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I went to the Titan One site and sent customer support a message. I received a reply within minutes; this is what I received:
"The Titan One supports a great variety of fightsitcks. The ones originally compatible with consoles (PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One) are almost guarantee that also works with the Titan One. In that case, you can then use it on any console. For example a PS3 compatible fightstick can be used on PS4, Xbox One or Xbox 360.

What is the brand/model of your PS3 fightstick? So I can check if it was already tested by us, or by a member of our community."
I sent another message informing him the sticks I own, which are the HRAP V3 SA and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Tournament Stick.

So after some thought and going over my recent spending, I'm actually considering canceling my Mad Catz TE2 preorder and just sticking with the Hori RAP 4 Kai stick for now. I'll probably pick up a Mad Catz stick later on, so I was wondering, has Mad Catz ever held sales for their sticks? Also, based on their stock history (which I am unaware of, having never really been invested in sticks before now) is it likely that they'll have regular stock/newer models along the line, or are the rarely in stock $200 TE2s all we can expect for this generation? Basically what I'm asking is if there'll be a decent chance that I'll have better options available to me in the future through Mad Catz that would justify waiting.

Anyone know if there are any PS4 arcade sticks that are available for purchase for 200 dollars or thereabouts? Because I can't find any.

Probably get some sales through third party sellers.

TE1s were £150 when launched on amazon UK (sold by amazon), but I nabbed mine near Xmas when dropped down to £99. A few months later it dropped to £65, before promptly selling out for good.

Yo MarkMan, could you please reply to my post? Another issue I have is the plexi wobbles a lot and it's extremely jarring when playing. Help please.

First off, thanks for your patience (and tweet) I was able to see this and reply!

The placement for the hinged area and the edges when closed will always have some give/play as it is a part that opens. It will vary on assembly but shouldn't be more than what you described (1 to 2 millimeters).

Also in regards to the plexi having some play/movement. It is due to the design of the plexi that it also has some give; due to us wanting to have an easy to replace art template system. Traditionally on a control panel, the buttons would sandwich the artwork and snap down over the artwork area instead of being able to go through it. There are solutions to alleviate this but it involves getting plexi made by a vendor like Art Hong (http://tek-innovations.com/arthobbies/) to get TE2 plexi. I've used his in the past and it is a solid solution and stays firm.

If there are any other questions feel free to PM me!

I've got $10 saying this is a USB HID driver bug and/or the game being hard-coded to the device ID of the regular controller. The current Windows Xbox One controller driver has bugs like fight stick LT/RT buttons not working, amongst other fun.

A work around is using the Titan One between your stick and the Xbox One as the Titan emulates an official controller in hardware, regardless of what's behind it. I think you can see why I say get a PS4 stick and use a Titan One adapter on it for everything else.

If you can wait 2-3 weeks Hori will be shipping their PS4 sticks in volume. Get your pre-order in while you can.

For everyone that preordered their USF4 TE2 for PS4 from Mad Catz (scheduled for a mid/late March release), great news. I checked our shipping/manufacturing schedule and it's on time and we'll be getting MORE PS4 TE2 sticks just in time for MKX's launch in mid-April.

Thanks a lot for the reply! I was actually looking at Art's website today and was wondering if that would rectify the issue. It's a shame his shipping charges are quite high, especially to send it here in Australia (~80AUD ack!). Not to mention I spent close to $350AUD getting the TE2....Not sure on what I should do here =/

How often does hori change their sticks? I want 2 so I can have a nice 2 player setup at home, but I don't want to spend 300 now. If I get one now and wait for the other, will I be able to get a second stick that is similar to the first one?

They don't change very often. They introduced the HRAPV design in 2010 and are still using it for some sticks. And before that they rocked the HRAP case for like 8 years, lol.

I want a TE2 but i just cant afford it at the moment, which is why i pre ordered the Rap kai. Hopefully in the future i can get a TE2 because i honestly feel like im cheating on MC lol all my other sticks at TE's

Nothing wrong with getting another brand if the value/price ratio is better. I like Mad Catz's sticks, but this time Hori beat them on what matters to me.

I pre ordered the Kai 4 on amazon. So from what I hear the hayabusa sticks are as good as sanwa if not better but the kuro buttons are trash right? You recommend changing those buttons asap?

whats up with this design they are using? did it need to look and be shaped like this because they are looking at the most mod friendly and modular setup? i think its a step down from the te1 otherwise. that was a nice design. looks more comfortable too though i have never used a te2.

I'm sure it's comfortable and easy to customize. For me, the modding aspect is not that important for the higher pricepoint with less button features.

EDIT: I should probably state I have an extra sets of Sanwas to swap out the Kuro buttons. Otherwise, the price difference isn't as big.

Thanks.

I never owned a fightstick or followed the fightstick community. Since I am setting up my ps4 to basically be an arcade type setup, I need two sticks for when friends come over or when the wife wants to throw down.

Only a modded HSS-0130 will do.

Accept no substitutions.

Can anyone using Kuro buttons comment on how "clicky" they are?

Pre-ordered a Kai to use until I can get my hands on a TE2. I moved into a new place and have a room to game by myself now so noise isn't an issue I just wan't to make sure I don't go insane.

Ugh...

I need one, single button silencer (30mm). I know, it's ridiculous. Can I toss a few bucks someone's way to drop one in the mail to me?

I would really appreciate it.

I owned one for about a year and modded it with a brand new populated blast city panel (OBSF RGs!) and 360 PCBs. It's a novelty to own, but unless you have a somewhat permanent place to use/keep it, it's quite cumbersome because of its size.

I purchased the hss for about $300, then spent about $150 modding it. Eventually sold it for $550.

Edit: here's a pic:

HSS-0130 is amazing but I'd feel so bad modding one by drilling holes in the case and everything. Don't get me wrong I love seeing the mods in this thread though. Sticks are made to be played, not displayed in a museum afterall, and making them compatible with multiple and modern systems allows just that.

You have no idea. I was practically shaking as I prepped the holes to be drilled in the case. I did NOT want to do it. Unfortunately, i needed more buttons other than "start" and drilling those panels bubbles up the artwork due to heat.

Mine came pre-screwed up, fortunately. A guy in Japan had tried to mod it for Dreamcast but botched something... I found a crude wiring diagram and some Dreamcast Agetec boards / VMUs jammed inside. The front panel was rusted pretty badly, too. Traded it to a Neo-Geo.com fellah for a couple of Saturn to RJ45 cables.

Mine has a permanent home as the centerpiece of my retro-setup. I do take it with me to game nights, even though it is kind of a headache. Having fully detachable cables helps a lot though. If any NYCers ever want to take it for a spin, let me know.

Awesome stick, mdsfx. I bet the new owner loves it.
