Isn't it bizarre that the director has to actively point out that a face is in fact not digitally altered? If faces look weird and warped because of wide angle lenses up close then why would you use them? The shot looks weird and uncanny valley-esque instead of grandiose and epic.

Why would you do this if it looks weird? Losing my mind over this, lol.

No, you see. It’s you the consumer and the viewer that we are trying to sell a product to, that is wrong.

The dad bod from the angle of this shot is wild I couldn't have shot this worse if I tried and I know fuck all about filming. Gunn is pissing me off I don't think I've ever wanted a film to tank but I'm getting close to changing that and I'm not even a superman fan.

No gray hair though so that is a win for him.

I know nothing about this but you would assume Superman rights would be well established.
He represents the heirs. He’s been suing WB and DC for decades trying to take the rights back so the heirs can shop Superman around to the highest bidder so they can live off what their grandfathers did 80 years ago. He’s done the same thing to Marvel with the Jack Kirby family and failed.

Grandad probably sold it cheap.

Any rumblings on when the next trailer might hit?

I’ve noticed we’re now at the point where people are using A.I to create their own fake trailers. Doesn’t look so hot now, but in a few years who knows.

Should come during the Superbowl. At least that's the scuttlebutt. Maybe also a teaser for Peacemaker season 2.

No shit Sherlock. I know that's how he looks and that is why I said it doesn't translate well in live action. Sometimes 1:1 adaptation is not a good thing.

The character’s haircut is meant to be bad. It looks so in this adaptation. What are you even saying, man?

I think I was pretty clear with what I was saying. You think it's fine in live action, I don't. No need to quote me to defend this movie as soon as I make some criticism you know, it's fine to just disagree.
It's tiring to have the GDF quoting everything to defend this lmao.

I think that's the point. It's not supposed to look good in comic form or live action. But as it is, it's pretty comic accurate... It's not about "I love this" or "I hate this" but more about "that's like the comics!"

And you think the general audience (which is the one they need to convince) is gonna go: "hey it's fine it's comics accurate!"? Of course not. There is plenty of other things to do in an ADAPTATION to keep his goofy style without going THIS hard on the look.
Again, 1:1 adaptation is not always a good thing. But hey, I might be wrong and maybe Superman is gonna break a billion and that's all I hope because, saying it again for some people (not you) that think I just hate on it because I prefer Snyder: even if I don't like what Gunn is doing with Superman, it can open the door for more interesting projects. Like Swamp Thing, Clayface or Supergirl and many more.

You misunderstood me, with you and a few other it's black or white, all or nothing. There is no middle ground and yes it's tiresome.

Read a few pages back when you disagreed with the Black Adam parallel. Well how is it going now? That teaser with his floating head was mocked everywhere and yet you where like "I don't see the problem". I had to show you with Tyler Hoechlin's Superman why it was so bad. And now here we are again. It looks like a CW show ffs.

You're wasting your time trying to make sense of what a Snyder cultist says and does.

Here's some Lois Lane to cleanse the palate and bless this thread:

Here's some Lois Lane to cleanse the palate and bless this thread:

As a Snyder cultist I thought Rebel Moon was AWFUL. Terrible, two of the worst movies in 2024. Oh wait that doesn't align!

And bonus round because it's too hard to read apparently:
I might be wrong and maybe Superman is gonna break a billion and that's all I hope because, saying it again for some people (not you) that think I just hate on it because I prefer Snyder: even if I don't like what Gunn is doing with Superman, it can open the door for more interesting projects. Please grow up, it's not because we disagree that we need to be upset at each other.

Bruh, just because I didn’t have a problem with it, that’s an issue? And honestly, I don’t trust online discourse, especially as once a few influential people latch onto a concept they can use to grab some views, it’s a fucking domino effect.

Take the recent Anthony Mackie controversy. Every Youtuber who lives for moments like that flocked like vultures all over it…..but when the 2011 Chris Evans interview was resurfaced where it was revealed he had said pretty much what Mackie had said, “conveniently” all those Youtubers even after several days did not post an update on that, except for Tyrone Magnus (but I cannot confirm if he backed down or proceeded to go after Evans as well, I personally find Tyrone unbearable), why it’s almost like they care more about feeding their audience than giving honest opinions!

Like, it was two seconds that supposedly looked off. Honestly, it comes off as desperate to latch onto something so small to try to find some angle to mock the film, and getting upset if others don’t have an issue with it.

If something looks bad in the film to me, I’ll say it. But it hasn’t so far, which is mostly consistent with Gunn’s track record with Marvel and DC for me. My only issues were in Guardians 1, I thought Nebula was uninteresting (this was fixed in the sequels) and Ronan was a forgettable villain, and in Guardians 3, they could have utilized Adam Warlock better. But Guardians 2 is my second favorite MCU film after Winter Soldier, and The Suicide Squad is my favorite DCEU film.

Yes, I like James Gunn and almost everything he brings to comic book adaptations. He gets it in my eyes. If I want Guy Gardener on screen, I’d prefer the silly haircut. Just like I want Lex Luthor to be bald (and not wearing a wig) which has been frequently denied to me in most of the live action films. Sorry if I caught you off guard with this apparently hot take, but don’t make this a conspiracy theory that I’m going to automatically love every single thing Gunn does ever, or that I have some vendetta against you.

Bruh, just because I have a problem with it, that’s an issue? See what I'm doing here? Yes I think it looks very bad in live action, so what? It's exactly the same. The difference is I'm not quoting you to start an argument that will lead nowhere. You could have said "I think it's very respectful of the comics and I like it" and be done with it. But no, you want me to agree with you or I'm a troll/cultist/whatever float your boat.

I didn't care for that and I haven't followed the drama honestly.

It's Superman, of course EVERYTHING is gonna get scrutinize to the very small details just like every big movie. Is it fair? Maybe not, but we judge what we are given especially since there is so few images.

And that's fine! Nothing against you and I said I hope the movie is successful for the reason I gave earlier. But look what comment I get "blablabla Snyder cultist etc..." How stupid is that? Do I have to start every criticism for this movie by saying Rebel Moon is awful so I'm not accused of being a cultist? Wtf is this?
BTW I liked every Gunn's movies from Tromeo and Juliet up to GOTG1 (and Horribilis is one of my personal guilty pleasure). After that I think he became a yes man and lost his touch. But that's just me, we don't have to agree.

*ironically, I would say Man of Steel was one of the, if not THE, first big cases of my hate for a negative aspect of online discourse, where some people would propose an interpretation of a film (or show, game, etc.), and it would snowball and soon almost all people would agree without actually rewatching the film (and in a few cases, not even watch it. I’ve exposed one person back in the day who admitted later on in a debate to not having actually watched MOS, and I exposed several people in terms of certain video games that they hadn’t actually played it but were taking certain individuals’ opinions as facts and were pretending to have played it themselves.

With Man of Steel, the concept that Superman just wrecks Smallville and Metropolis without using other safer methods to prevent that, and doesn’t give a shit about anyone not named Lois and Martha is false in my eyes.

In the Smallville fight:

-Superman saves a soldier’s life. He even takes a second to ask if the soldier is all right. (he also saves those people out in the ocean in the first act of the film)
-Superman causes destruction initially because Zod was seemingly seconds from murdering his mother. Shocker, someone new to the superhero gig might fail to think about the destruction he’d cause from tackling the man in question if said hero is preoccupied with saving his MOTHER
-Superman advises the townspeople to get inside and hide. This might seem like bad advice, BUT:
-Faora flat out tells Superman that for every life he saves, they will kill a thousand more. Superman realizes people being out in the open will make for easy targets, we see Faora wipe out three soldiers in a second. While being in a building is risky if the ceiling collapses, being outside and in the open could be a likely death sentence if one of Zod’s soldiers gets knocked nearby or such. So Superman’s advice to the townspeople seems like the smarter play IMHO

In Metropolis:

-Zod, by the time he fights Superman, is PISSED. He also knows Superman cares about humanity a ton if he is willing to choose them over reviving the Kryptonian race. Thus:
-Superman can not “lead Zod away” from Metropolis. This isn’t like Dragonball Z where the bloodthirsty psychopaths of the villains also bafflingly entertain the heroes when they request to move the fight to a safer location like when Goku asks Android 19 and 20 to do so. If Superman flies away from Zod, there is no reason to believe Zod wouldn’t just commence mass murdering civilians. Zod is a general, he knows military tactics, and he knows the best way to hurt Superman now is to kill people.
And no, Superman can not just conveniently get his punches lined up to eventually get Zod out of the city. Fights don’t work that way. Especially with the fate of Earth on the line, Superman would be a fool to waste opportunities to get a hit in if he’s wasting time trying to wait for opportunities to strike specifically to push Zod out of the city.

Also, the citizens look stupid. Perry and his team take several minutes staring at the World Engine killing hundreds of people before finally realizing they should leave. As Superman and Zod are fighting, we get several shots of civilians simply staring instead of hauling ass the other way. Yes, two people are flying, I get it, but SURVIVAL INSTINCT, people! Come on!

Now, I still criticize Man of Steel for some of its tone. I feel while Superman does care for humanity and we do get two scenes of him saving people not named Lois or Martha, we should have gotten even more scenes of that than the few scraps that we did, BUT we did get those scraps regardless despite some haters claiming they don’t even exist. I feel Snyder was trying to emphasize how protective Jonathan was of his son, but I think he went too far and missed the point of Jonathan (the show Smallville did a better job of displaying a flawed but ultimately goodhearted Jonathan who helped lead his son into becoming the hero we know and love). And so on and so forth. But there is plenty I liked as well, like Cavill’s performance and the cast in general, the effects of the fights, the music, having Clark and Lois being their romance immediately rather than wasting multiple movies in barely advancing them romantically, etc.

And I will say, while I consider Batman v Superman more flawed than MOS (but still having some enjoyable elements), I appreciate that while it did annoyingly overfocus on the destruction of Metropolis (to the point Superman hardly smiles, which is just not Superman to me), it didn’t objectively say Superman was to blame like the online discourse tried to push. We see Batman’s perspective of the event, but he only has so much context, and his decisions afterwards are clearly meant to be too extreme.

See? I’m just opinionated on Superman (and comics and their adaptations in particular). I can voice my opinion on almost every element of any adaptation. And yes, some I will love practically every second of them. Some I will criticize some, but still enjoy to varying degrees, like Man of Steel. And a few I despise in almost everything they do, but that’s becoming a rarity these days, I think the last one I remember feeling that way was 2015 Fantastic Four (well, not counting the Sony standalone films of the last two or so years). Honestly, when certain people trash recent MCU films, I can’t disagree more, I far prefer Phase 4 and 5 over shit like Batman Forever/Robin, Catwoman, Hulk 03, Elektra, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, X-men Origins, both Ghost Riders, etc.

Guy Gardener is a character I quite like. Yes, he’s an asshole, but he’s OUR asshole (also, a rare guy who agrees with me that Ice is hotter than Fire, not that Fire isn’t attractive herself, I just prefer Ice), and to be fair, he does occasionally have a good moment (his eventual assistance towards Jaime Reyes, the third Blue Beetle, as well as him defending the memory of Ted Kord, the second Blue Beetle, so that Jaime ends up using Ted’s journals and such to help become a more effective strategist in his fights, particularly stood out for me). And while he’s not always rocked that haircut, it’s the one I think of when I think of the character. So I want the haircut, and I want it to make him look “lame”. I’m being completely genuine about that. I didn’t think you would take the gif so personally, but yes, as far as I knew, you were missing the point of the haircut and mistakenly thought it was supposed to be seen as cool or even normal when it never was meant to be. Also, I was confused as the hair was clearly visible in the first teaser, so it’s not like this short ad showed anything we didn’t already know about.

You where being disingenuous, saying I didn't know it was his look.
I need to repeat myself it's crazy. You like what you see? Good for you. I don't, no need to go further, and judging by the response this is getting, I'm not the only one minus some people like you who wants the exact same thing as the comics. Anyway quoting myself again:

-look, I’ve had a long weekend with helping my sister and brother-in-law as they visited, and I love them, but by god they do not discipline their three kids barely, and I’m tired. So fucking sue me that I DARED to be a little snarky to you.

I’ve been casually told, with genuine intent, to end my fucking life, out of nowhere on YouTube, because I liked a certain movie that is generally despised by some people including said person obviously, you know, just saying, maybe put things in perspective and realize a little snark isn’t a big fucking deal compared to how some assholes out there treat others over things like this.

-most people on Gaf don’t read comics, or barely read them. The recent thread in Gaming with a bunch of people acting like Wonder Woman getting even ONE game was ridiculous, yeah, that speaks volumes on the general attitude here. Hell, you had one guy acting like the DCAU was perfect in depicting all the characters, uh, no, Dini and/or Timm, I forget which, even admitted they did not handle Diana well, and they have admitted to making a few mistakes with Superman, among other things. The DCAU is still great, but it shows a lack of comic knowledge if people think that was a shining depiction of ALL the characters, such as Diana for example

So no, I do not expect most of Gaf is overly familiar with Guy Gardener, his hair, and how he’s generally portrayed. So them jumping to conclusions based on a few seconds of footage means nothing to me. Hell, we got people going, “why are they wasting time setting up Justice League?!” when these characters are in the JLI and not the JL/JLA, and I bet these people saying things like that don’t even know what the JLI is, let alone JSA, JLD, etc.

-so are you not going to address how it was another poster(s) today who called you a cultist, and I didn’t say shit about that? And yet I’m the one who supposedly disingenuous?

I'm not in your life and It's not about being a bit snarky, it's about having to constantly argue with you because I don't agree. And you being a bit agressive on the past (again, look at our previous interaction).
You can't expect people to know your feelings and act accordingly, I'm just reacting to what you are posting.

And fuck them! I'll never say something like this or wish arm on anyone. I'm not those people.

Yeah I saw that WW thread, and I think a WW game on Themyscira could be AMAZING. And with the Nemesis System? Fuck yeah sign me in! People just lack imagination.

So no, I do not expect most of Gaf is overly familiar with Guy Gardener, his hair, and how he’s generally portrayed. So them jumping to conclusions based on a few seconds of footage means nothing to me.
So why loose time quoting me again and again if that means nothing for you?

Hell, we got people going, “why are they wasting time setting up Justice League?!” when these characters are in the JLI and not the JL/JLA, and I bet these people saying things like that don’t even know what the JLI is, let alone JSA, JLD, etc.
Unfortunately, the movie needs to convince these people to got put their ass in the theater. And releasing this king of material is most likely not helping.

-so are you not going to address how it was another poster(s) today who called you a cultist, and I didn’t say shit about that? And yet I’m the one who supposedly disingenuous?

Peace Out Reaction GIF
Based on our previous interaction, yeah I put you in the same bag. That was wrong but that wont change how you already acted.

Trilobit

Absolutely Cozy
Apparently it was just that?

All they had to do was release a teaser with Krypto doing some adorable and some cool stuff. People, including me, would have been perfectly fine with that. Instead we got another look at an ugly ass haircut.

They made this 5 second animation of Krypto for the Puppy Bowl

WB is sparing no expense in advertising this film. /s

But seriously, the movie is still a few months out so it's probably a bit premature to be spending big bucks on a Super Bowl commercial. Zaslav needs that yearly bonus yo
