For GTA in particular the only sales data we have is that the Trilogy did well in Europe

For other mature games, we know the ports of RE6, Witcher 3 and Dragon's Dogma did well for example.

I'm pretty sure Skyrim is confirmed to have sold over a million units on Switch and Doom 2016 must have done pretty well, since Bethesda followed it up with ports of Wolfenstein and Doom Eternal.

I also think Persona 5 and Nier Automata were successful, in spite of the extreme lateness of both ports.

Interesting to see if they are just offering their backlog or will Gta 6 make it to the switch?

don't know why and where people get GTA games are some technical marvel powerhouse lol.

GTA 5 is on 3 generation of hardware... 1 being a 360 with 512mb of ram. I think the switch 2 will be fine.
This, also Rockstar doesn’t care how well the game run in a console, if the game works that’s everything they need. They only care about the user base, and now it looks like they are more than ok with the Switch 2, they know is going to be a success.

There isn’t a technical reason GTA 6 won’t run on Switch 2 so there has to be a reasonable business reason not to bring it to a capable platform with a 100m user potential. Especially with the uncertainty of the Xbox Platform moving forward.

There is a technical reason. It's a underpowered piece of crap in 2025. Rockstar shouldn't hinder their own game by having a switch 2 port on the back of their mind. Nobody buys 3rd party games on Nintendo platforms anyway so why bother? I'm sorry if this offends Nintendo fans. I've poured hours into my Switch but it's the truth. I ain't gonna give Nintendo a pass for their shortcomings. I've shat all over the series s all generation, so why should I give the switch 2 a pass when it's going to be even less capable?

it's not that i think the games are just for kids, it's the terrible ergonomics of portables that kill my wrists and make my hands a lil numb after an hour of play... if they could solve that i would invest more into handhelds for sure. Would LOVE to be able to play my games on the go with decent graphics if it didnt kill my hands.

700 million units sold for 3rd party games on Switch.
Minecraft - 15m
Monster Hunter Rise - 10m
Rabbids kingdom battle - 10m
Stardew Valley - 8m
Momotaro Densetsu - 4m
Octopath Traveller - 3m
Rabbids spark of hope - 3m
Dragon Quest 11S - 2m
Dragon Quest 3R - 2m

Then you have games like The Witcher 3, Hogwarts Legacy, FIFA, NBA2K, Fish Angler, Taiko Drum Master, Monster Hunter Generation Ultimate HD, Triangle Strategy, Live a life, Bravely Default 2, Bomberman R, Dragon Quest Dark Prince, SMT V, and many more than sold over a million copies on Switch alone.

Call Of Duty is going to sell buckload on Switch 2.

The point would be to make money from the big userbase.

With how scalable games are these days, I don't see the PS5 experience being significantly impacted by the existence of a Switch 2 port.

"There was a time when Nintendo platforms are really geared at younger audiences and that was reflected in our release schedule. And now today with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience.

"As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch [2].
They are still geared towards younger audience, which makes them incredibly successful as it’s the only platform doing so. Lord Nintendo will allow you to have left-over scraps from the Lord’s table.

Switch doesn’t even have GTA V which is a PS3 game. What makes people so hopeful for GTA 6?

no chance VI is going on Switch.

they'll make you buy GTA V again for a 4th or 5th time. that's all it means :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I miss the old days when they different console ports would sometimes be completely different games. Maybe Switch 2 will get a top-down GTA 1+2 style GTA 6.
it's taking them 12+ years to work on VI.

you want them to work on two versions of the game???

Wait people think the ps5 pro is save to only manage to do 30 fps in this game hut switch 2 is possible. They will release alot more games on switch, but i doubt it's gonna be gta vi.

3 Ideally, a mobile version would be nice. Maybe a Miami exclusive Pokémon GO style game where you visit important landmarks from the plot.

Go all-in on "Nintendo's not for kids anymore" and release Manhunt 3 as an exclusive Switch 2 launch title.

I highly doubt Rockstar port over GTA 6. They could have ported GTA 5 years ago and didn't. Probably because Rockstar knew GTA online would never work on the Switch. I don't see Rockstar bending over backwards to get GTA 6 Online working on Switch 2. Way too much of a headache for a console base that by and large doesn't buy mature games
GTA 5 switch was mostly due to size more than the power of the switch rumor has it.. and i believe it. There's no reason the switch couldn't have handled a PS3 game otherwise.. Every game rockstar could bring to the switch they have otherwise.

If gtavi can be done they will do it.

Yep, GTA6 is getting a Switch 2 version. Been saying that since the start.

Just makes sense. I'm sure their engine is quite scalable, and they still have to make a version for the little dog that couldn't called the Series S.

If they're stuck making a version for a platform in a sales death spiral, why would they not put a bit more effort into a version for a new system that seems to have a very bright future?

There is zero scenario where Switch 2 could handle GTA 6 Online. That is the biggest reason why it would not get ported

And if Witcher 3 could get ported, surely GTA 5 could have as well. Rockstar is not going to massively scale down a Nintendo Switch 2 version, imo

Whoever cannot read the obvious on the wall:

There will be two consoles emerging: Nintendo’s and PC (in hand held form, steam “box” form, and traditional desktop form factor). Xbox Games and PlayStation Studio Content are shuffling toward publisher status. No need to buy a console when I can scale my experience as much and as far as I have the money to spend for the hardware to drive the content.

Nintendo has always been the “IP”, not their individual games/franchises. There will still be a place for Nintendo as they built the space everyone else is playing in.

Brought to you by Stan McStannington…freelance marketing content creator and truths speaker on permanent assignment for Nintendo (pro bono, obviously).

I will still buy all the consoles because I need those receipts to talk all this 💩

Xbox is moving away from being a platform holder but PlayStation absolutely isn't. It's how they make the most of their money.

They have already gone down the slippery slope of pc release support. Once 3rd party releases are in parity for pc release the player base will bleed PlayStation dry.

Nintendo will continue to exist in their own bubble, as they always have, but the wolves are are almost at the door for PlayStation. Their next console must have enough of a platform differentiation (software alone isn’t going to be it) to keep players in their eco-system.

We desperately need the competition in the space and I hope they have some amazing ideas up their sleeve for PS6!

“Underpowered piece of crap?” Relative to what? We haven’t seen enough of what the system can do to offer such an effective statement. How can you speak so absolute without seeing ONE game of note?

Specs have not mattered in over a generation. And anyone saying different is in on a Ponzi scheme.

Sony can continue differentiating their platform with timed exclusives, while also making extra money off PC.

Their PS5 hardware sales are strong, as are their software sales and DLC/MTX/subscription revenue.

Things would have to drastically change before Sony drops hardware, it's at least a decade away if not more.

I can understand that perspective, but with the rapid decline in physical media and a race to provide everything in as an accessible way as possible to capture the most "engagements", that tide can turn quick.

For me PlayStation has always been a tech leader in the console space. Even during the 360 ear of dominance, PlayStation games were generally more impressive from a consumer and developer perspective for me.

I would have placed Ubisoft at the top of the 3rd party publisher mountain in 2021 and now, 4 years and many flops later, they will be lucky to sell off their company for what they consider a value (if they are even trying to do that).

If the last four years have shown us anything in this industry its how fast the tables can turn. I would not have guessed in 2022 that Microsoft would be the largest video game publisher in the world in 2025, but here we are even if the numbers don't quite support it...yet.

I want Sony to continue to focus on bringing console gamers the best home console experience possible for cutting edge hardware and satisfying game experiences. However, I look back at the last two years of my personal gaming and their console is at the bottom of my "most played list", with PC being first, and Switch coming in at #2. I don't rate Xbox hardware at all in this space as I stopped buying digital (and most physical) games on Xbox when Game pass ultimate was released, I started buying all their releases on Steam. 2024 would have been a bloodbath for Sony on my end if Stellar Blade and Astro had not released, hell even the PSVR2 gave it a bump for me in 2023/2024 and that platform is completely anemic when it comes to quality exclusive content.

For someone who spends an "amount" of their income on physical games and the hardware to paly said games, it is a bad look when I only replaced one of my PS5 slims with the PS5 Pro.

When the whales start dying out who is going to come to the rescue?

Yes but let's be honest the Witcher is playable yes but it took a massive amount of effort to get it running even at that state.
and that was a PS4 game.

With GTA V Rockstar in the end probably due to GTA online + the file size like having to include all the songs and everything that GTA V contains etc probably wasn't worth it in the end.

They ported every game they could. Red Dead 1, LA Noire and GTA Trilogy.
They obviously weighed the pros and and cons and decided it wasn't worth the headache of constantly having to make sure their latest content ran well on the Switch.

I for one respect them for at least not wanting to make a botched port of GTA V just cause.

There is a lot of these "impossible" ports on Switch that I would argue should never have been made. They're too far downscaled. Now I do think GTA V would have looked fine but cut backs would have to have happened somewhere and and the end of the day Rockstar didn't think it was worth it.
