The drama continues: Ubisoft removed the Samurai description of Yasuke on Steam page, but only for Japan store

I seriously wonder if nobody at the board meetings were like: "this black character could backfire".

How do these meetings even go? They had the perfect chance here to redeem the entire company and franchise. Japan as a setting with 2 diverse JAPANESE leads.

There must be someone in the room that knows that the games' sales will tank when they don't give the people what they want? Right?

New key-art for the game, feels like they're definitely downplaying Yasuke's character, 90% of his face is hidden behind the elaborate mask which hides practically all of his features, and there's a lot of other characters on it now that weren't seen before.

Or there is internal competition on the management side and someone didn't interfere, fully knowing this project could fail, thereby ridding himself of competition. I've seen that two times in companies I've worked at. Where one manager let another manager fuck up in order to get rid of him.

It was on purpose, the writer on the team really liked Yasuke's story.

Here is a link to Michael Pachter confirming this:

He also confirmed Ubisoft did not add Yasuke and the female ninja because of some "political agenda" but of course people won't believe that.

Lol.. if Michael "rare incel victory" Pacther say it was not political.. then it must be true.

You really are choosing to die in this hill bro..

Its not honestly easier to just say "well its political and for diversity and I dont give a single fuck and will play the game" than to fight this lost battle for Ubisoft ?

You not going to convince anyone that the dev loooooves this forgotten character of Yasuke who barely is mentioned or really known about... but not the hundreds of great storys and several books based on real known Samurai.

Sure, but this game could decide Ubisoft's future. I have a feeling this game could be good but the black character will ruin sales and word of mouth.

Why would a company take such a big risk in such troubled times? If you don't know your audience you don't deserve to exist. This game will probably destroy Ubisoft as we know it.

Thats toxic positivy culture.. even if there was someone who knew it was a horrible idea he would never mention... of fear of that trip to HR the next day to have "the talk"

The game started development years ago... the culture shift and backlash against this shit is real recent... people seem to forget but prior to the steam curator list and exposure of the SBI this things were barely discussed

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Well, the times definitely were not so troubled for studios like Ubi when this would've begun development. Depending on how close to 2020 this began development, I could see Yasuke actually being something of a safe bet in a room full of left-leaning creatives.

Mechanically, the game looks like shit, but I appreciate Ubisoft's consistency in that regard.

Final Art will have him in a Samurai Mask.

So stunning and brave they are...

So if the game gave you a choice between a Japanese samurai and a black shinobi, that would fix the issue right?
Why does an AC game set in 16th century Japan have to have non Japanese people? Why can’t Ubi just make a game based on what fans have been requesting and use DLCs to do things differently like they did already with other AC games.

And then do full on AC game in sub-Saharan Africa. There are a ton of interesting places and time periods that you could set a game in. From Ethiopian Empire to fall of Mali to Zulu war with British and more.

Also, personally I thought Nioh (or Last Samurai) was dumb as well.

LOL. You can barely even see the black character in the armour.

Whomever is the character at the top is the biggest pic, and even the two normal clothed people at the bottom (chubby guy and the woman) are just as big as the two main characters in the game.

If anything, youd think these 3 Japanese people sticking out from the montage are the lead characters. lol

So side character = apolitical, main character = political. Am I understanding correctly?

And if that's correct, would you say that also applies to white characters in media set in medieval Japan?

Would you say that everyone's a racist and a chud ?
So if the game gave you a choice between a Japanese samurai and a black shinobi, that would fix the issue right?

Mate, the insinuations are getting tiring at this point, just stop beating around the bush and just say what you're thinking : that everyone's a RaCiSt...for stating the fucking obvious - 'cause, let's not kid ourselves, we all know why Ubisoft did this.
You're playing coy and it's preeettty obvious at this point with the constant back and forth and the "questions" that you're posing.

There's so many other threads about this game, this could be in one of them.
Gotta have our hourly Ubisoft thread, any excuse is enough.

🤷🏼‍♂️i wonder why
It's no secret the company is doing badly. I still don't see why every little thing they post or do has to be a new thread just to shit on them. Plenty of open threads where people do just that. Maybe there should be an OT or something.

I unironically like the Chinese version of the poster more. And not because that black dude has been made smaller and put next to BB-8. But because They've made the TIE-Fighters shooting their green lasers bigger. And TIE-Fighters are just beautiful, man. I also like that they've changed Kylo Ren to a frontal shot from a profile shot.

It looks good. My biggest wish for this game is for the writers to let go of the usual ubi Hollywood style comedy/serious writing. It's cheesy, irritating and immediately takes you out of the immersing gameplay.

By this I mostly mean, cracking jokes during decisive story momentum.

The home of postmodernism.

Absolute retards. I bet they thought they'd be raking it in when they decided to go this way during the BLM summer of love. How much things can change in just a few years.
Pretty much. That Floyd summer really perked up the creative brainstorming sessions at lots of game makers and TV/movie studios. And pro sports leagues (at least the ones in US/Canada not sure about rest of world) were all BLM focused for a year. Even NHL hockey which is like 95% white guys and 5% black and asian combined was all BLM at intermissions. And also corporate culture with even boring companies going gonzo on DEI. So it wasnt just a tech/media company thing. Fast forward to 2023/2024 and things reversed (along with the election). Consumers had enough, products sinking and a lot of companies dropping DEI from their corporate policies. 2025 will be a reckoning too.

Too bad for game makers, games take a long to to make. They are releasing their skewed viewed games at the wrong time. But too late to change. But something likes sports coverage changed fast. After that first year, all the BLM stuff disappeared fast like it never even happened. Cant really do that to games unless they really want to adjust everything.

LOL. Well, that's what happens when fads end. So not truly a DEI only kind of thing. But also just fad related.

Unless a company is really nimble navigating faddish products or trends (like some clothing stores or toy companies churning out hot colours or knock offs fast and then disappear), it's not a good idea to sink a lot of money into expensive products jumping on a trend that take a long time to make. Big time rolling the dice.

We all knew this shit was coming years ago when we saw Yves Guillemot smiling happily after another horrible, woke and cringe E3 presentation where only Ubisoft themselves thought they were doing ok.

They have 0 idea and understanding what people want. They deserve to die. It sucks because some of their I.P has a lot of potential.

All these Ubisoft's attempts at pleasing critics are pointless because they aren't arguing in good faith. In fact, every time Ubisoft listens they simply double down on the hate.

Basically sharks smelling blood.

Par for the course

They made Finn barely noticeable and Chewbacca gone. Rey is a bit smaller, while Han and Leia a bit bigger.

But they did some other odd changes. Vader's head is turn to be straight on, and the bottom left mish mash of crap is rearranged with the new rolling robot a big centre piece now.
