There weren't 104 awards to give out back in the 1990s and 00s when these games were more prominent (and better).

Nintendo games like Super Mario Bros. Wonder (which I love, btw) are way more recent. This isn't really a valid excuse.

Except if he did so, he would have done it in a 17 game season, whereas Dickerson did it in a 16 game season, and he broke a record that OJ Simpson set in a 14 game season.

So what you're telling me is this style of game is not "out of fashion" at all and major developers that used to release this type of game should actually do so instead of seeking some blue ocean? Or at minimum continue to cater to both?

I still have yet to play the full retail game, but I absolutely loved the pack in on Ps5... It made me nostalgic for the days of pack in games, getting the Genesis bundled with Sonic, SNES with Mario, etc... An amazing game to play right away.

Under that thought we can say then that God of War "wiped the floor" with RDR2 and Monster Hunter World in 2018 or that TLOU2 did it with Doom Eternal or Animal Crossing, you don't always win...but Sony and Nintendo almost every year have something goty quality to offer, something that Xbox can't say.

I mean it's not even that hard. There are weak years with not much competition where an Astro Bots or an It Tales Two can shine and there are years where those 2 wouldn't have stood a chance.

The real joke is that all of those outsold it by a wide margin. Helldivers II is the only real success Sony has had in the entirety of 2024 and it was just dumb luck.
