You are doing a weird spin on this, I think for vast majority it’s quite clear - fuck safety, there’s money to be made. And that’s perfectly fine, just have to be a big boy and admit you don’t give a damn about majority of citizens here, you just want your millionaire buddies to get richer.
Fucking gross did you move here?!?!

Please no!!

Yeah how well off would some of these countries be if the US wasn't giving billions to fund NATO or AIDS meds in Africa? Hell there is a reason why Canada and Mexico bucked on the border stuff. The amount of money and security we give them is honestly more then they deserve. So the next time Canada wants to brag about their free healthcare they need to remember that 200 billion America taxpayer dollars is one of the reasons why they have it.

The $200 billion is America's trade deficit (grossly overstated, closer to $50 billion). The US government is not sending any money to Canada for anything. The US consumer is purchasing oil, natural gas, and electricity sourced from Canada because its a cheap and reliable supplier of energy. Ex energy, the US has a trade surplus with Canada of about $60 billion.

Trump's $200 billion 'subsidy" claim ties mostly with defense. Canda last year paid about $30 billion into NATO where as the US paid almost $1 trillion. Trump's belief is that because Canda doesn't pay its fair share that the US has to pay more. He also factors in the resourses spent picking up the slack at the Northern border as well. He hits Mexico with $300 billion for the same reason.

The US didn’t pay $1 trillion into NATO. That is just the money that the US spends on its own military. The common NATO budget for 2024 was $3.8 billion and the USA only paid for less than 16% of that, matching the contribution of Germany.

NATO isn’t a drain on the USA, if the USA wants to spend less all they have to do is reduce its own military budget. Withdrawing from NATO won’t do it by itself, although it would dramatically reduce the influence and leverage that the USA has on Europe and Russia.
