Total sales for open-world vampire survival game V Rising have surpassed five million units, developer Stunlock Studios announced.

V Rising first launched in Early Access for PC via Steam on May 17, 2022, followed by a full release on May 8, 2024 for PC and June 11, 2024 for PlayStation 5.

“Hitting five million sales isn’t just a number, it’s a testament to the passion and dedication of our team and our incredible community,” said Stunlock Studios CEO Rickard Frisegard, CEO at Stunlock Studios. “Our player’s enthusiasm drives us to push boundaries and deliver even more unforgettable experiences. We’re excited to build on this success and deliver thrilling new experiences and content in 2025.”

A “big update” that is “set to redefine the vampire experience” is coming in 2025, with a new biome, new faction, and “ancient technologies ready to be claimed.” Players can also look forward to a revamped progression system featuring stat caps, a Fusion Forge for crafting ultimate builds, and risk-free player-versus-player options like dueling, customizable castle arenas, and more.

Wow, a survival game that does huge numbers? This is so surprising...

Hmm. It’s like $10 on the key sites. Think I’d like it if I like Cat Quest? Ha! I know that sounds ridiculous. But that’s probably the closest game I’ve played to this gameplay. Diablo always seemed like too much to me. Plus I’d probably play on Steam Deck.

If it was just a diablo clone i would buy it but there is the whole build your base and suvival stuff that i hate with a passion.

I would buy a version with just exploration and combat but stripped of all the rest.

I need to circle back to this. I played this a lot for a month or so when it initially hit early release on Steam, but got busy with work and haven't touched it since. From what I understand, a lot of content updates since.

Hmm, i hate survival and building too for the most part. I can handle some minor building. What survival stuff is there?
I'm starting to play kingdom come deliverance and I'm already wondering if the hunger and sleep will annoy me too much.

That's awesome news, Stunlock deserves it, they're very capable. Battlerite and Battlerite Royale are great games with top notch combat, and V Rising just showed that they can do even more.

So you can actually tweak the survival elements and effectively ignore them (outside of sun and getting at least minimum amount of blood which is trivival), base building/upgrading is a major part of the game that cannot be avoided at all if you want to progress.

That ruined Fallout 4 for me, tbh. It already made the disconnected narrative from the world and systems design even more fucking disconnected. And they managed to make that shit more annoying by tethering it to fucking Preston Garvey and his "the base is under attack!" bullshit.
And the sad part is that, looking at Starfield, Bethesda have only doubled down on their crafting/base-building bullshit.

Game of the year and the arpg with the best gameplay by a lightyear. Playing stuff like poe after having played v rising is a terrible experience. It's so fucking good.

Alright. I’ll bite.

Why?

If I’m not into survival game aspects like base building, then what does this game offer? I’ve only played a bit of the early game but it felt like a chore right away. Go chop trees, go mine rocks, build this, avoid the sun, craft in a linear fashion of ^ up arrows. Combat seemed slow and dull.

But please Enlighten us.

it plays more like a moba, skill based combat, you have to aim, not just throw things in the general direction. And to me the camera not being static is a game changer. Im not saying it's a better rpg than poe, it's a survival game after all and not a pure rpg. But i'd love an arpg with v rising combat. Of course it would be a different game anyway, you cant just have 100 enemies on screen in a game like v rising because thr combat doesnt work for that. One is more like hyrule warriors while the other is more like souls kind of.

Like the top 3 best bossfight in v rising are 20x a better fight than any poe or diablo fight could ever hope to be.
