What do we think of Donkey Kong's new design for Mario Kart?

Can anyone else see two different images in this pic?

1. Donkey Kong with his hands on the steering wheel
2. Donkey Kong with his hands positioned behind his head, like he just don’t care.

The second image is harder to see but his hands can look like a shirt, and his ear can look like one of his hands if you focus on his upper arms, particularly his ear.

It's gonna be wild if Nintendo actually develop a DK platformer (be it 3D or 2D) in-house in Japan. The last time that happened was Donkey Kong for the GameBoy, afaik.
Donkey Kong 94 was developed by Pax Softnica, and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat on GameCube was actually the last one to be developed by NCL over 20 years ago.

was Jungle Beat a platformer? I always thought it was some kind of rhythm game.

It 100% is, you're confusing it with the Donkey Konga games that also used the DK Bongos.
Funnily enough, I missed the 'platformer' part on your post, and yet DKJB happened to be one. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Donkey Konga was the rhythm game. Jungle Beat was a platformer that just happened to use the bongos for controls. It was a little odd, but a ton of fun. The Wii control version was pretty good too.

Then I stand corrected.

DK jr is now DK. Cranky is the original DK from donkey Kong.

The relation between Crank and Donkey Kong has always flip flopped between Cranky being Donkey Kong's father or grandfather. Originally, Donkey Kong was meant to be a grown up version of Jr.

Apparently Shiggy objected to the idea because he didn't like seeing his Donkey Kong Jr. design get thrown out in replacement for Rare's design. In the first Donkey Kong Country game, there is dialogue where Cranky refers to DK as his son. But in the manual he is clearly marked as DK's grandfather and Jr is DK's father. This also caused a the OG jr. design to exist alongside the DKC cast.

DK64 reverts Cranky as being DK's father.
