I like slapping lines out of Bronson's hands before he can put them in his mouth and ruin them.

The Fast and Furious series is what Michael Bay has been attempting, and failing, to achieve his entire career.
Big, loud, stupid, fun, and enjoyable. Stupid over the top shit happens in a Bay movie, you roll your eyes because of how self serious they are. Shit ten times more ridiculous than that happens in a Fast film and you don't even flinch. You expect it to go even further the next time, because they take it just seriously enough to buy it.

Bless this series.

Cause they attempt actual originality in these films unlike that "other" restarted series that China don't care about.

I totally agree with this. People always underestimate Chinese audiences as lacking sophistication, but the popularity of Transformers and Fast Furious films show that what you really need is originality to succeed.

F&F also completely commits to its' dumb ass characters to the point that makes them very endearing

It also pays way more attention to continuity than most franchises do

The adherence to continuity is nice, and it does it so effortlessly you could come into a late entry cold and still be fine. Such a good balance for both newbies and people that have been there from the start.

People joke about the family thing, but that's totally the thing to ground all the craziness and make audiences care.

I can't remember but was Jason Bourne a flop on the Box Office? Is there hope for a sequel or is this franchise dead for now?

It did alright. I don't know what expectations were though.

Deadlines numbers from late last night had Boss Baby slightly in the lead, with both it and BatB at the lower end of that early 6.5-7.5M range.

They have $2.1M for GitS and 1.6M for Power Rangers. Power Rangers is going to be passed over by Kong in the daily results soon. $100M Dom = Dead.

He's made $3.8B on 4 Transformers movies.
The 7 Fast movies have made $3.9B.

I think Bay is doing just fine.

As for not rolling your eyes in a furious movie, are you serious? I like the franchise just fine but for me, it's been going downwards since 5. 1 was good. 2 and 3 were trash-tier. 4 was ok (and the start of this connected storyline thing). 5 was the pinnacle. 6 went down. 7 went down even further. I expect 8 to fall again.

5 struck the perfect balance of crazy action but still mildly believable. 6 went further in the crazy direction and 7 went all in and based on the trailers, 8 is ridiculous in a bad way.

7 had Dom stomp a multilevel parking structure into dust with a single boot heel kick.

I fully expect 8 to feature Vin Diesel cleaving Antarctica in half with a pelvic thrust while sporting a semi.

Isn't Power Rangers kind of....free falling? I swear I read some people on here say its wom was great.

Yes, it is dropping fast.

With Fate of the Furious next weekend, I am starting to doubt Power Rangers' ability to hit $90M domestic. A 2.25x OW multiplier or less on the first entry of a new series is not a good foundation. If overseas results were great, that wouldn't matter as much, but overseas results are pretty terrible.

Are the overseas total perhaps looking worse, due to how lionsgate releases WW?

It did $415m ww so I think a sequel is possible. But not sure what Damon said about if he wanted to do another one.

It could still be big in China when it releases in May. Hopefully.
think Japan is June but like Pacific Rim im not holding out hope for it.

Such a shame Power Rangers is dropping fast.

Power Rangers is going to be the 2010s Speed Racer. Both movies are being underrated, and yet they have a cult following.

In some ways, I think the Chinese audience is more sophisticated than the US audience. They recognized the brilliance of Paul WS Anderson and his crowning achievement, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. US audiences should feel ashamed that they didn't similarly reward Sony for supporting such a true visionary auteur.

China will reward Paul WS Anderson's Monster Hunter adaptation with $500m, while the US will pass it over in favour of irrelevant films like the MCU, DCEU and Star Wars.

I think The Fast & Furious series is a lot smarter than you think it is. It's smarter than most action movies today. I would almost say it's on Fury Road's level.

Fuck it, it is smarter than Fury Road.

.

Let's not say things we can't take back.

As for how smart the F&F series is, they are smart. It takes a lot of ingenuity and brains to put together a series as preposterous as that yet still make it cohesive and believable. This is not a knock against them, because I love most of them.

I'm not taking it back. I believe it. Diverse cast, faster cars, The Rock.

72% drop for GitS. Egads.

Looking at ~$50m DOM for it, tops. Probably less.
A few days back Swiss said it still has a decent chance at $500M - which may have changed since - so I'd think so. Boss Baby chopped away at its legs a bit, but $450M looks pretty solid.

The week over week drop yesterday was off only ~1% of the drop last Friday had.
