'Think Like a Man' wins weekend B.O. Rom-com earns $33.3 mil to best trio of overperforming wide releases

Domestic moviegoers were out in force this weekend.

A trio of wide releases overperformed, led by Sony-Screen Gems' comedy "Think Like a Man," which collected an estimated $33 million, followed by a $22.8 million debut for Warner Bros.' Nicholas Sparks adaptation of "The Lucky One."

Also overperforming, Disney's fourth docu released via its nature label, "Chimpanzee," landed in the double digits through Sunday with an estimated $10.2 million, making it the biggest opening for Disneynature. 2010's "Earth" previously ranked as the biggest Stateside opening for Disneynature, with $8.8 million.

Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games" fell to No. 3 in its fifth frame, with an estimated $14.5 million, though the film dropped just 31%, boosting its domestic cume past $350 million.

Overseas, Universal's "Battleship" won bragging rights, estimating $58.4 million from a total 50 locations and pushing the pic's international cume beyond $100 million.

"Battleship" expand into key markets Russia and China, of which the latter contributed $17 million in five days, making it U's biggest opening weekend ever in that country. In Russia, "Battleship" grossed an estimated $10.7 million -- better than the local openings of "Fast Five," "John Carter," "Thor" and "Wrath of the Titans."

"Battleship" has 14 additional markets to go; pic bows Stateside on May 18.

Where's that "I don't want to live on this planet anymore?" Futurama jpg? It seems appropriate for this thread.

Was hoping Cabin in the Woods would do better. Looks like $400 million probably not possible for Hunger Games, but it should hit $375 million. But damn at Think Like a Man. I didn't even know anything about it until I read the box office previews this week.

Hahahahaaaa, are you fucking kidding me? It's like an experiment to cram all clichéd poses people take on romcom posters into one.

That's a positive result for Think Like A Man. Too bad that these kinds of movies only seem to come out once or twice a year. Last year was "Jumping The Broom" and then nothing else.

impressive to think the Hunger Games could get into the Top 10

Nah, it won't make it that high, doesn't have the legs. But it is impressive as hell that it made as much as it did in March and April of all times. Guess 300 really broke open the blockbuster possibilities for March. Catching Fire is going to be insane at the box office next year, especially since it's the best book.

Hopefully harSon is happy

Remember the craziness that was in these threads last year with The Help

Isn't Part 2, Part 1 just Remixed Super Hyper Edition

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.

Not going to lie, I got dragged to this movie and I didn't even pay because I didn't want to see it. With that said, it was actually funny and enough fap material to last WEEKS! Megan Good is sooooo damn Mmmmmmmmm. Especially the scene when she had on this tan dress! Oh god. Actually every single one of them were so damn gorgeous!

Best part of the movie is all of the dudes in the movie were protrayed as successful black males!

I havent seen Think Like A Man yet, but geez some of you guys are overly negative for some reason. This beat expectations of 20-25M so now I hope hollywood knows that there is a need for these non-tyler perry films that show African Americans or other minorities in a non-stereotypical, non-coonjangling way. I'm happy.

Seems like a good hold for Stooges. Oh, well...

Does Romany Malco's head look pasted on or that just a weird angle for his picture?

Not likely, unless there's a resurgence in the audience, which wouldn't be the craziest thing ever, but I doubt it happens. It's done making money after next weekend. The Avengers are coming to eat up all the box office monies the weekend after that.

I've heard from people I trust, aka people who hate Tyler Perry movies, that Think Like A Man is actually funny. So, I won't hate it on it.

It only has positive WoM on the internet. General audiences hated it. It had a C audience rating from cinemascore, and a D+ among females.

Whedon curse strikes again?

He can't make/write/have a hand in a successful movie to save his life. Avengers will obviously be a hit, in spite of him.

Don't worry, I'll save all trash talk for the Next Steve Harvey movie.

I agree.

Not defending Steve Harvey in any way, but he had little to do with the film itself. I am not a fan of Steve Harvey's personal actions and beliefs, but the movie, although centered around the book, is an original screenplay.

Think Like a Man is a good commercial flick, I'm actually planning on seeing it. Kevin Hart probably did most of the pulling for the film, wonder how Ferrera is in it

I must admit that I spent a good minute looking for the Tyler Perry name on the poster.

Turtle is actually pretty good in it, it also helps that he's beside Gabrielle Union....mmmmmh Gabrielle sauce.

Just saw Hunger Game the other day to see what's the fuss is all about.

I really dont see why this is a $370-$400M movie. The acting is good, Jennifer Lawrence is great, I don't think she's really that hot, but she's excellent in the movie. The movie itself has a stupid, totally absurd or ridiculously concept. I mean we got this sick hunting reality show concept in the 1987 Running Man, and that movie has Ahnold. This is even more absurd with the participants being kids or teenagers. and this is a 400M gross movie??, I mean what the fuck?!?!

Of course the movie is going to do well, minorities like to see themselves represented within film and when Hollywood proper fails to do so, movies like this are going to do extremely well.

I don't know why black comedies get added hate just for being predominantly black, they're of no lesser quality than their predominantly white counterparts (which tend to be equally mediocre IMO). I haven't even seen the IMDB score yet, but considering the fact that users vote down every other black film, I wouldn't be surprised if the same were true for this film despite having relatively average critical ratings.

I need to see Think Like A Man. All the dudes in the movie are funny guys. Plus, hot women. I can stomach commercial BS like this.
