X Men Comics Question

I tried various ways of finding a GAF comic OT but they are all from like 2017? Unsure if it’s abandoned or using some goofy title so it’s impossible to find.

With that said I just recently finished House of X Powers of X. Loved it from start to finish, and I want to follow what Hickman is doing here.

Various results shown online on how to continue. It seems there’s MANY volumes of Dawn of X that come next. I want to get to and finish fall of the house of X/ rise of the powers of X, but I assume there’s a lot I need to know in between. Dawn of X is 16 volumes, correct? Amazon has various hard copies of the volumes but some aren’t readily available unless you pay waaaay more than usual. Any websites to recommend quality and not over priced?

After Dawn of X, what should I read?

Funny enough that's the next comic run I'll be reading. I'm also confused since the reading guides are massive. I hope I enjoy House of X/Power of X as much as you did

Are you wanting to read only what Hickman did during the Krakoa era (and then follow that with Fall/Rise), or the entire Krakoa era of all the writers?

The former shouldn’t be too difficult to get a good guide for (Reddit will have reading guides for pretty much anything in Marvel or DC), and while I’ve not dived into reading the era fully myself, getting everything Hickman wrote in physical format was still easy last year (the Hickman X-men omnibus for the main title, and then trades for his House/Powers, X of Swords, New Mutants, and Inferno). So if you’re a physical copy reader (which your post seemed to suggest), you should be okay for the Hickman-written titles.

If you want to follow all the titles, while this might be a slower way, they are beginning to release omnibuses covering the entire era. This will likely require multiple omnibuses, not sure how many, and like I said, you will have to wait, sometimes omnibuses for a run/era will be a year apart in release or shorter.

Just want to stick with Hickman. Mostly for my wallets sake.

A lot of dawn of X books compile from various runs it seems and not just Hickman which is good to get all the key points.

Just unsure what comes next as there is conflicting info online.

I just stuck to this recommended list in what I bought (in dbcb’s post). The Hickman X-men omnibus covered all of the main X-men title’s issues, and the others had trades dedicated to each series.

My issue with the Dawn of X trades was IIRC they each have only one issue of the various series, which I feel would kill the feel of the pacing of each series to be constantly juggling between series one issue at a time. I personally would prioritize enjoying each series for what they are to maximize how each writer meant to write them as rather than worrying too much about keeping everything exactly chronological in reading order. Like, when I read my Geoff Johns’ Green Lantern omnibuses and Peter J. Tomasi’s Green Lantern Corps omnibuses (both runs were written simultaneously and concluded together), I generally only switched between the two while reading after finishing one major arc from Johns and then reading said arc with the Tomasi issues and then going back to Johns and so forth, I felt switching between the runs every individual issue would be too much and would slow down the pacing of either run too much. But that’s just me. And depending on one’s reading speed, it could be less of an issue for you.

For me I want to read everything in Chronological order when it comes to Hickman Run. That includes the titles he oversaw but didn't write for

I ended up finishing reading House of X/Powers of X using the Marvel Unlimited App. And let me just say it's the best Run I have read since Grant Morrison New X-Men. I just hope the quality is the same throughout the rest of Hickman’s Run

Can't speak to the recent stuff, but for older material, Grant Morrison's New X-men --> Whedon's Astonishing X-Men were worth reading.

I did House and it was brilliant.

I’m now doing Dawn of X which is 16 books collecting the important pieces from all of what was going on in the various runs at the time. Excalibur in particular is super cool.

I’m a hard copy reader so I can’t justify buying more than one a month. The volume 1 for dawn was $50 in a used copy…

I haven't read a lot of X-Men but Morrison Run is my favorite so far

Whedon Run I'm looking to read next year

Other than New X-Men, I have read Wolverine Origins, Age of Apocalypse (Liked the concept but the plot itself was boring) and the Onslaught Saga (Loved the first issue but after that the story got boring. I think the concept was really interesting though)

I don't remember if I read any other X-Men Runs

If you don't mind reading off a phone or a tablet (Which I use for reading comics), I highly recommend subscribing to Marvel Unlimited. It's only 9.99 per month. They have a massive selection of titles and that includes the whole Hickman Run

I'm also using that App to read Immortal Hulk and Donny Cates Venom Run + King In Black

The Marvel Unlimited App runs great too and I haven't had any problems downloading issues. I think the app only let's you download to internal storage and not external though

Read the original Days of Future Past arc.

I added that to my 2026 Read List

The entire original Claremont run is worthwhile. If you're interested in the classic stuff then nearly every defining aspect of the X-Men as we know it is comes from that run.

I got all the Omnibuses in physical for Chris Claremont and I'm hoping to read them in 2026 or 2027

I think Fatal Attraction is part of his run too and that's another one I have the Omnibus for and am hoping to read in the next two years. Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to read Fatal Attraction

I'm going back and reading older X-Men Runs once I get to the point in Modern Marvel I want to stop at

I cannot explain why but I’ve tried digital reading of comics in the past and I couldn’t get into it. Same with manga.

A hard copy does something for me with the smell and feel of paper. I think it’s some autistic shit not diagnosed in me haha.

I have shelves of hard copy comics and mangas that I cherish.

I think if I had a nicer iPad or if they would make a kindle product geared for comics and manga I’d be more inclined. The phone is too small, and the computer even a laptop just isn’t something I want to do compared to laying in bed with a physical copy.

I agree with everything you said. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury for physical at the moment so digital + pirating is the only valid option for me. Like you I prefer to read books in my hands. Just the feel, smell and the texture of it I love. Manga and comics I can read both physical and digital. Since I have a good Samsung Tablet, I've been using that to read comics and manga. And the color just pop on the screen whenever I read comics on it. Manga especially is nice to read on it due to all the detail I can see
