Xbox Lost the Console War. Now It’s Redefining Gaming. | WSJ The Economics Of

This means they're deliberately selling less hardware, but their hope is that it'll allow themselves to sell more software by offering their games on more devices overall. That's the death of the Xbox console platform, and a transition into basically a third party publisher who has their own hardware as a side hustle. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to the individual. For me, it means there's one player left in the console space, which means the console space is about to get a whole lot worse.

Yeah, MS is no competition anymore.

Meaning Nintendo is benefiting without direct competition, and therefore Sony should too.
Nintendo knows what their audience want and keep delivering on that but Sony as of late kinda keep chasing the biggest trend and I think this is why they want get in to GaaS.

Problem is Fortnite completely took over that market, even one of them become somewhat successful eventually people would just go back to Fortnite.

Which would be because they have the luxury of not having direct competition twisting what they do.

Didn't you find it strange how quickly and abruptly Google backed away from gaming?
or Amazon, which has been in gaming for a while, really hasn’t taken off?... maybe Netflix can be next challenger.

I think this industry is incredibly tough. What we’ve been experiencing over the last five years is its consolidation, so we are living in the worst time. In the next five years, things should settle
No one will create a new console, take the billions in losses and acquisitions necessary to build a killer set of exclusives, because what's their angle? How do they out do Sony? It'll be harder to bring a cheaper console to market without taking heavier losses. It'll be harder to be bring a more technically proficient console to market without pricing yourself out of range for gamers to take a chance. There's no "in". And the payoff? Maybe you're second place at best, which means you're barely breaking even ten years down the road. Unless you can make better games and hardware than Sony, it's just not worth it. Once Xbox has backed out, Sony will have the market to themselves. And I doubt anyone even tries to challenge them for a long, long time.

Yes of course. Fired more than 3000 staff give or take in the past 18 months. 90% of the games in your pipeline is garbage, every company / dev you bought expires after 2 or 3 years max …

How many times you gotta show Avowed in the past 2 years and still look like a ps3 game with bad frames and game mechanics from the first Turok game ?

PlayStation 6 might just be the last traditional console we ever see. Sony should do quite well with that gen, but at the same time things are massively shifting away from that structure. Handhelds will always be popular due to their personal nature, and the internet will continue to reach more people and thus cloud gaming will become the main hub for gaming by then.

Most gaming hardware will eventually end up like record players, eight track and cassette tape players, landline phones, TiVo, DVD and Blu ray players.

Love how it is okay for other devs to develop games for years (eg. 8 years for concord, multiple first party Sony studios), but MS, especially after acquisitions, should be publishing new title every 6 months (being a bit hyperbolic).

Tbh I have both GamePass and Ps Plus Premium, and GamePass is much more worth. Will probably cancel ps plus on next renewal.
