I think if you have to discuss ZTD you have to disregard some things of what VLR told us.
With what happened in VLR, history most definitely has changed from the point where Sigma fell unconcious in the beginning of VLR.
Everything from there will turn out differently.
That includes Junpei's desire to find Akane.
Also we don't know if Phi and/or Sigma have connected with Junpei and are helping him to find Akane. As both Phi and Sigma can sort of travel through time by transfering their conciousness into their past and future selfs this should have been an easy (if maybe long) thing for them to do.

So yeah,
Junpei finding Akane only a year after the events of 999 should definitely be a possibility.

Interesting to note is that both Phi and Akane retain their respective seiyuu, while Sigma's has changed
since he's young in this one whereas he was a n old fart in VLR.

I still hope they bring back Ali Hillis for Akane, Troy Baker for Sigma and Karen Strassman for Phi and Laura Bailey for Diana. Maybe get Yuri Lowenthal for Junpei.

Please make it happen, Aksys. I know you are reading this.

I read someone's interesting theory on 4chan that not only are the characters split into groups, they're split across different timelines. Like if Sigma/Phi/Diana succeeds in stopping Radical-6 in their present(maybe temporarily) that leads to a possible future in which Junpei and Akane play Zero's game at the Mars facility. If Sigma, Phi, and Diana fails, that leads to VLR. And there are much more possibilities besides those.

Actually, here's a thought - maybe Q is Carlos' little sister.

I highly doubt that character will be Quark since he's not even conceived by the time ZTD begins. The character's identity is no doubt going to be of huge importance though. As far as I'm concerned it's either that, or some offshoot failed Left clone.

EDIT: nvm seems like the translation states they're a boy

I wasn't expecting anything before the event around GDC. Everyone looks great, especially that Zero (?).
Also, I'm glad that Uchikoshi won't have to censor himself for this game. Now I only need a release date.

I love that the game is also being designed to be a 'standalone' experience. Even though I have played 999 and VLR, whenever I read story discussions I always get confused since there's so much stuff going on. Knowing that the game will make sure the whole story gets told is very reassuring.

Just read the Zero Escape wiki or something like that, your memory will come back soon enough.

ZE3 will (probably) reintroduce all the relevant/important plot points. Like someone stated earlier in this thread, it is treated as a soft reboot.

I only beat VLR a few days ago but I'm sure it has been discussed, what do people think about the chances of Alice and Clover appearing in ZTD, or one of Lotus' daughters

No, I cancelled it when DR3 was announced because I needed to save money for that. EDIT: Misread. Yes, I would cancel my preorder over the cast of people being someone I never want to spend any time around. And I didn't think Junpei was emo in 999
or VLR
, which is why his reveal art was so awful for me. Now with this scan, he still looks emo, so that's why I was upset. Uchikoshi also always reuses twists from his past works, so I don't see why he would stop here.

Also, a lot of the fun in the last two games was watching all the people interact together in big groups. Finding out that they're gonna be split into three groups of three takes a lot of the fun of ZE away, so that sucks too.

In 999, no because it was the first game in the series. That would be stupid to be upset about. In VLR, yeah. I was banking on all of them being someone we knew and the one's who weren't besides Sigma

were awful. I was hoping the grand finale of the series would be a reunion of beloved faces instead of some random people who are now the most important people in the story because "reasons."

You know how lazy and boring the writing would have been in we had a full cast of characters who knew what was up before the finale game? Now we are in the finale, so it is this beloved faces reuinion we were talking about. Half of these participants are oldschool and returning, what more do you want?
Also if this cast is boring I dunno how 999s was interesting- the casts are very diverse as a rule of thumb. They're important to the story for reasons 999 set up. Free The Soul isn't new to VLR- they were in 999 too.

Last: complaining about group sizes.
They were split into groups in VLR and 999. I'm sure they'll meet up.
I dunno, these complaints feel moreso along the lines of I want to complain and not actually with any good reason.

Character design is really on point and unique compared to other visual novels/adventure games coming out of Japan nowadays. Reminds me of old Suda51 games like Moonlight Syndrome and old Human Entertainment games.

Inerested to find out what exactly the "tough choices" will be this time. Wonder how they will top 999 and VLR in that regard. I always got the impression Uchikoshi is a really cynical guy going by his games...

CQD was one of the original distress signals developed to be employed for marine purposes. The most notable thing about it in this context is that it's what Titanic sent out at one point, and the term appeared on the 4infinity website.

999's wasn't interesting. They all had the exact twists you would expect
Akane being Zero is so obvious that I don't even tag it as a spoiler anywhere besides here
. Anyway, I forgot about the
Left clone
, so that's like... 4.5 returning characters. A little better. I don't see how people don't see Junpei as an edgelord emo kid, though. It's ancedotal, but all the people I know that dress like that fall in that category. And if he is f'd up because of 999
then why doesn't he show it in VLR? Tenmyouji is kinda jovial whenever anything isn't happening to Quark.
