One Way Heroics out on Steam, expansion in the works.
Smoking WOLF's One Way Heroics, a side-scrolling, turn-based RPG with permadeath, is now available for Steam at the price of $3.49. It's still Windows-only and looks to stay that way, but the developer is currently working on expansion.

The developer is adding one thing at a time and doesn't know where exactly he'll stop, but the confirmed additions so far are:

- Hotkeys for favorite skills
- More tile sets for greater visual variety
- New biomes, including a coastal biome which will have water along one edge the whole time the player is traveling and a fortress biome with things such as dungeons
- New items and weapons
- New classes, including Ninja, Force Knight (a Jedi, more or less), and Tourist

The Tourist is going to be the weakest class in the game, for those who want a greater challenge. There are also plans to make it so that players can upgrade the starter castle, adding new NPCs and other things. There is no word yet on how long it will be until the expansion is finished or how much it will cost.

Awesome news, the game already has incredible replay value, and that's going to get even better.

Very cool, seems like its selling good enough! :)

Awesome!

I'm secretly hoping he works on giving the game better resolution support, currently I can't play the game full screen on my TV (the top and bottom are cut off badly).

Great, great game tho. I need to get back to it and work on the higher difficulties and the ally endings soon (but gotta finish my Half-Minute Hero achievements first, in case the sequel drops soon).

I just went to look who created this thread and wanted to make a note in my mind that the user who created it deserves a thanks for pushing this game a bit as it really deserves it.

ô.o

I spend too much time on GAF.

Awesome! One more indie game with an upcoming expansion/update that add more content to an already great game, now we have FTL, Risk of Rain and OWH. I just hope they don't release the updates at the same timeframe, it'll be hard to choose which one to sink my time.

And as someone said, maybe add the ability to upload replays to a server (the files are pretty small, so space shouldn't be an issue), and let other players see the replays. Then again, it's just an overview, not a complete look at everything that happened ala Revolver360 (then again, trying to do replays like that could blow the size).

Just bought it! Any first-time tips?

As with any good rogue-like, look for what you can learn from each attempt. Generally, I don't even really try to win in my first attempts at the genre. I just try everything to see what happens. PandaPedinte's first point is something you'll pick up quick in your experiments. One of the things that makes One Way Heroic unique is how short it is (at least with default settings). That and other factors made me far less of a hoarder in this game than I usually am in the genre.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Awesome to see more people play the game. We're pumped about putting out OWH Plus.

Just got this game, found out about it because of the Paypal sale, this came as an unexpected pleasant surprise. Loving it. Haven't been able to defeat the Demon Lord though :(

Dont worry, beating him will eventually be not a question of "If" but "how fast" :p

And really, beating the Demon Lord is the easier objective. There's also other objectives that are harder to achieve...like reaching the end of the world. Some others are best left to discover yourself.

I just wanted to make it known that I freaking love this game. I'm a sucker for all things Roguelike anyway, but the great sprite art and music are icing on a particularly substantial cake.

Was this thing made in RPG Maker? If so, they modded the shit out of it.

The developer created the engine from the scratch.

Just have to beat the game now with the Swordmaster and the Hero classes. On easy mode, mind you. Tons more challenge to come going forward...

That's his engine, thetrin or Budokai did the game's localization and said early in this thread the engine was created by the developer.

Ah. Makes sense, given his handle. Sweet.

Great localization, too!

It is now on steam? What a wonderful surprise!

Highly recommends this game.

It is like a RPG FTL.

I guess I need to maniac every class again on steam to get all the achievements.

Holy fuck how did I miss that the DLC/addon was released ( but not on steam yet ) almost 3 weeks ago ?!

Time for me to go back to the game...

Wow, can't believe I missed this news. The additions sound fantastic, particularly the castle stuff. AND TOURIST! Good work sleuthing this info out. (Playism needs more PR!)

I'm looking forward to OWH+ releasing on Steam. Whatever the price, I'll be there.

Didn't touch the castle part yet ( trying to get that second difficulty no vault end of the world run on bard ) but I already love some of the addition I found ( new npc, skill seller ( based on stats ), item, biome... ).
I can't imagine a tourist run.... adventurer was already incredibly hard >.<

I bought it on Playism since :
STEAM KEYS: All users that purchase One Way Heroics PLUS on PLAYISM will receive a FREE Steam key once the game is released on Steam
Like with the original, transfering the save then shouldn't be a problem, even if some acheivement might need to be redonne.

And, well, I just couldn't wait.

Excite! Almost started playing this again recently but went for a different game instead (Sunless Sea, which is pretty awesome too). I'll be back for plus though!

Finaly a successful Afternoon Stroll no vault end of the world run as hunter ( after many saves, death and loading ). My tries as a bard have yet to be successful ...

I came back to this game like a week ago and it finally clicked for me. Sure the presentation is kind of generic, but man did the creators put a lot of time into the details. There's just so many random combinations of things that introduce new dialogue and bonus. A lot of stuff to discover. So glad I decided to try it again. My only complaint is the game is a little tough to play with the controller, especially as precise diagonals are super important here.

I hope the Mystery Chronicle version is just as good.
