Greg Miller to stream MGSV starting August 23rd; thru Mission 5, intro after release

I'm totally against this. Will not watch. And it seems unnecessary especially after releasing all those other gameplay videos from E3 and Gamescom. Go watch Greg's GZ lets play. I disagreed with what he thought of it, but understood his sentiments. Plus, he plays GZ terribly.

it's pretty hard bro

it's not as easy as simply ignoring the vids, you pretty much have to avoid:

-twitter
-facebook
-certain GAF threads
-youtube comments/thumbnails
-any other gaming forum/comments section
-twitch chat

Facebook and Twitter, I get. But there are people whining that things may be spoiled on gaming boards like 💁

Spoiler culture has a whole has become really pathetic, if a game is good, it's good. Hell had people say to me before "Why did you read Game Of Thrones, doesn't that spoil the TV Show?" I can still know certain aspects of a story and still enjoy the fuck out of it in the moment. I can go back to a game or movie that might have been spoiled to me in the past, come back it and still enjoy it for what it is.
Stay off the internet if your that scared.

Good for you.

But you don't get to decide whether someone else should care about being spoiled.

Right on. This is almost as bad as the Trigger warning/safe space culture.

God forbid people want to go into a game in their favorite series almost completely blind. Again it's not as simple as saying "dont watch it" I have no intent on watching this but people are dicks.

I use twitter, facebook, youtube, hell even twitch. All places I'm exposed to spoilers. This will literally be the talk of the town with Greg and his massive audience.

Hell I don't even read reviews anymore because they have a knack for spoiling story elements. They did it with Arkham Knight

Some of these replies are crazy. You don't like it or don't like Greg? Don't watch it!

The problem isnt about watching it. Its about the assholes who'll watch it and then do their best to spoil the game for others based on the footage they've seen.

Its an incredibly poor and short sighted decision from Greg to do something like this.

Not everyone shares the same mindset mate. Most of us will simply not watch or read anything about this LP, but many people(not me) have avoided trailers and gameplay footages for months. If this LP ends up putting any spoilers in the wild, it'll waste all their effort.

I get that. A lot of us don't want to be spoiled any more than necessary (trailers and gameplay vids). I've had to resort to twitter mute filters and staying clear of threads on GAF. So many of us are anticipating playing this ourselves. I can't watch someone else play this close to release.

That's Greg's livelihood right now. I don't think he needs us to tell him how to run his business. Literally every Twitch and YouTube personality would've jumped through fire for this opportunity. I guarantee this will increase his subscribers. PewDiePie didn't get 37 million subscribers because he was scared of spoiling games for people.

It's the same argument for the trigger warning/safe space culture. If you are offended by the Holocaust and have spent your lifetime avoiding reading anything about it, should the media simply stop writing about it and should the event be removed from the history books entirely just so your efforts to avoiding it aren't "wasted"?

Greg is also a media personality and a reviewer for this game. He also claims to be a HUGE fan of this series. I would expect someone who says that to at least wait until launch before he uploads his gameplay. I'm just not a fan of this.

And don't worry. I'm pissed at Konami as well.

Congrats to KF for getting this opportunity. But they better not put spoilers in the thumbnail and title of the videos. I am worried of being spoiled by other people though.

I'm a huge fan of the series. I would've done this. This isn't Greg doing it for no reason. This is a job from Konami. He just started his business. This is a great opportunity for KF and I'm happy they got this exclusive. It's easy for outsiders to say don't do this when their livelihood isn't dependent on streaming content.

So you'd be fine with going into a movie like The Sixth Sense and as you're in line, some random dickhead walks up to you and says "Hey man, Bruce Willis was dead the whole time." and walks away?

Where can you watch his let's play?

Then we just have to agree to disagree.

Uh. That's taking it a bit too extreme and I fail to see the connection since MGSV will release by 9/1 and after that spoilers are free to be in the wild. After that it's on the people to avoid spoilers for themselves, and Greg or anyone else is free to post all the spoilers that they wish. It's not about being offended, but the unwritten honor system where you honor the game and it's fans by not spoiling. That's why we have a separate spoiler thread so you know where not to go.

Mind you I've nothing against Greg, dude is very cool. He'd be even more cooler for me if he'd post his LP on release date.

Did you even read what you quoted? Because if so that analogy makes no sense.

I wouldn't like it, but at the same time I can't tell him he's not allowed to speak. He has the right to say whatever he wants as much as I do. If he wants to be an ass, that's his right.

No. Good thing he's only playing the first 5 missions of the game, isn't forcing you to watch the video and isn't going to be revealing ending spoilers anyway.

Please tell me which site Greg is reviewing MGS for.

Edit: HOLY SHIT THIS THREAD IS FULL OF CRAZY.

Greg, you're fine. You do you. I'm out.

Im saying its short sighted because the whole idea behind it is "This will get me subscribers/this is a good thing for me" without really taking into account the effects of what pre-release footage and potential spoilers will cause to the fanbase of a series he himself loves.

It comes across as selfish.

I would. A story is more than a twist with no context.

I failed to understand this "honor system" when it's Konami who asked Greg to do this. I would agree with you if there was actually some unlawfulness to it, like streaming a game that was leaked or obtaining a game before street date. This is a marketing move by the publisher of the game and they employed a popular online personality to stream the game for them. Sorry, I don't see where I can say this is wrong when the IP owner consented to this. It's their game and they can choose to market it however they want.

It's not his job to protect sensitive people from spoilers. You don't have to watch this. And if someone does, and then in turn uses that information to troll someone and spoil parts of the game for them, that's on them, not him.

Then so be it. I'm a Patreon supporter of theirs and livelong MGS fan. I have no problems with this.

I'm sure as hell not going to watch that, and don't understand why any MGS fan would, instead of experiencing it for themselves.
But as long as the spoilers stay contained in specific threads and don't spill out, I'm fine.

When did Kinda Funny start doing reviews?

Are they on metacritic?

Greg's pretty open about the fact that he doesn't review games anymore. They talk about games.

They're not on metacritic because they don't do written reviews. It's more of a verbal impression of the game. They also don't do scores.

They do reviews, but it's basically a conversational full-game impressions. They're also pretty selective, so they only do stuff that interest them to spend 30 minutes talking about. No scores too.

Spoilers never do, I had 3 major GoT plotpoints spoiled in a fucking WWE video on youtube, why? Because 2 dudes got in an argument and 1 had a Joffrey avatar, which then got pushed up to top comment.

I myself blame Konami for the whole thing. That's why I said I won't watch it myself and that I've nothing against Greg for this. I'm only thinking about people who may end up getting spoiled by it and that's all. I'm not saying it's wrong, just not right either even if the IP holder is the one behind it.

Why? What is his goal? Does he want to spoil the game for others? Unless your 100% certain your'e not going to get the game.

Considering how big Let's Plays have become, I reckon a shit load of people just like to watch games being played and don't care about spoilers. This is for them. It doesn't have to be for you. You have the option of not watching it.

He probably won't even show that much story stuff, just straight gameplay of missions. Plus he isn't going too deep. I think it'll be fine.

Discourse over important historical events/contemporary social problems have nothing to do with pre-release spoiler circuses. Nothing.
