I mean, Microsoft did ostensibly send him that free controller that put him through so much pain so he could write a review about it, right?
Oh my God, I forgot about the Forza one. That thing was so sexy.
I'm not really a fan of those Halo paddles. I think they'd look better though, if they came in a ODGreen/Copper set and a Blue/Silver set ( lol, as if anyone would actually buy this one.) I just want more discs.
Yeah, they're particularly good for FPS. I played thru Halo MCC and they were a positive addition. But for many games I just take them off as they can get in the way. That's why MS made them so easy to remove and attach. Really smart design.
Also, it's worth reminding people that a quick double press of the green connect button will toggle the paddles on and off, for those times when you don't feel like removing them but just want to avoid accidental inputs.

After using the controller for a month, I had to pull the two bottom paddles off. I just keep accidentally hitting them. It was messing me up in multiplayer games like Rainbow Six: Siege and Halo 5. I find the two top ones great to use in a ergonomic standpoint but the bottom ones result in too many accidental bumps.
That actually sounds pretty great. But what does "bigger convex sticks" mean? I'm holding out for normal length convex sticks, as in the same length as on a regular Xbox One controller.

Finally was able to find one of these at Best Buy and have been using is extensively for the past couple of days and only have one complaint. Using the default thumbsticks I will occasionally feel a slight click when moving around and it feels like it's due to the sticks not being held down strong enough magnetically. The extended concave and the regular convex thumbsticks don't exhibit this at all. I can switch the sides the sticks are on, or take the sticks off and rotate and re-seat and the issue goes away for a few minutes, but it always ends up happening again.

Similar length, but more surface area - as in a bigger convex disc. For more manly thumbs, or greasier thumbs.

I want to use 4 short paddles, yea. Not a fan of the big ones since it forces me to change the way I grip the controller too much
I don't necessarily want the halo ones. I'd be happy to buy a couple of the regular short paddles too (can you do that anywhere??)

You can get a set of 2 longs and 2 shorts for $15 from Microsoft's support site. Let me dig up exactly how you get to it. It took me a few minutes to figure it out because when I use the site in Chrome, half the links just refresh the page and do nothing.
Do not do this in Chrome, or the site probably won't work.
Go to https://myservice.xbox.com/en-US/Pages/Welcome.aspx
Click on "replace an accessory"
Click on "Xbox One"
Click on "Elite Controller"
click "next"
It will ask you if you have a product ID. I clicked no, and hit "continue" in the bottom right of the popup.
FINALLY, you will get to a screen that lets you select items to purchase replacements for. It should look like this:
I'm assuming you could probably get replacements for free if you register your product ID. I didn't register my controller because... doesn't it have like a 3 months warranty? I assumed if I hold off registering the device, I can delay the date that my 3 month warranty starts. I could be totally wrong on this.

Does anyone know when the warranty starts? I want to get the left trigger fixed, but only if it can be replaced for free--I don't want to spend any of my own money, not even $5 for shipping. It's not broken, it just has a slight catch when you pull it every so often (that's what she said), but I can deal with it if I need to.
I ordered the controller on 11/6 but it was backordered and I didn't receive it until 11/19. Does Microsoft start the warranty upon receipt? Fleshfeast mentioned it may not start until the device is registered, but that's unconfirmed. If it matters, I haven't registered the controller yet.

FX-GMC mentioned that none of the numbers on the controller work as a valid product ID (I did have this issue initially when looking at their support site), so I'm not sure if there's a way to verify when your warranty starts or ends.

Well that was for an accessory replacement, and a product ID is sometimes not the same as a serial number. The service repair site specifically asks for a serial number. I guess I'll go through the steps and see what kind of estimate they give me.

Well I just went through the replacement process with chat and they initially said it was out of warranty, but after I explained that the Elite controller doesn't show up on their site properly and provided the receipt, I am getting a replacement. I don't know how OCDChewie (and others?) were able to keep their controller while also getting a new one. They gave me that option for replacing the paddles, but when I reiterated that it was the triggers, I had to send mine back. They said 14-21 days turnaround time but I'm hoping it's a lot sooner than that as I sold all my other controllers so I have no controllers to play with!

My launch OG Sixaxis lasted all the way until Split/Second, my 360 controller is still good as new, and my PS4 controller has lasted over a year and technically still works, it just has the worn-down rubber thumbsticks issue. But even if we count that as broken, it still lasted a year. Seems like the build quality on these is suspect to say the least.

What's the justification for a $150 controller only having a 3 month warranty? Lucky mine hasn't given me any issues.
PLEASE NOTE: to anyone on the fence about buying an Elite, do it! Despite what I'm about to write I still consider it the best controller I ever used overall, and am not at all sorry for buying them. But yes, there are possible issues to be aware of...
Chalupa Batman, I had to send my first Elite in due to a busted LB button after just 4 weeks. I have never had a controller go bad on me, much less after just a few weeks. The replacement came maybe a week or so after sending it in.
The replacement is Ok but one of the paddle micro switches is not as responsive as the others, but it works. I'm not doing anymore send ins for replacement tho, as you never know what you'll get, and it cost me $10 to send in.
Unfortunately quality control is apparently poor and the internal parts are basically the same as a regular XB1 controller, so any reports of Elites being more reliable were false.
I own 2 Elites, and since then have learned to open them without damaging the battery compartment sticker. My second Elite was making a weird sound when I just touched down on the dpad, so I just opened it and fixed it myself. Turns out I think they just over tightened the screws a little. Easy fix, and no way to tell it was ever opened. I just watched a couple of YouTube videos and took it from there.
In the future I might try to fix/replace that paddle switch. It does work, but doesn't pop back as positively like the others. Not a big deal to me since my wife is the only one who uses that Elite and she hates the paddles and doesn't use them anyway.

None, and I'm surprised it isn't a year. But I'm surprised normal controllers aren't a year either, so now that I know they're not, I'm not surprised lol. What's sad is it feels like a premium controller but if it's all the same guts inside, what's the point? I would pay another $50 for better parts, probably more.
Which videos did you watch? I'm not too great with fixing things like this so I would probably just send it in again. The annoying thing is it only lasted two weeks, and still technically works, it just gnawed on my brain and I'm sure down the line it would have eventually become unusable from all the wear and tear wherever it's catching. I'm also annoyed that I didn't buy the Best Buy replacement plan after I read about all the problems in this thread, but to be fair my 30-day window had almost expired, I hadn't opened it yet, and I've never had issues with controllers until this gen.
Serial Number doesn't work either. I think it will only let you add consoles to your Devices list.

Yeah, I did that and then contacted chat. The Elite serial number or product ID or whatever is supposed to be used is not in their online database.
Or why not add the 20 dollar additional warranty from somewhere like best buy? no questions asked, you walk in and switch the controller out for the next 2 years.

I bought an elite controller but the low-friction rings were kinda rough. I contacted Xbox support but I haven't gotten a response in weeks on just replacing the rings (they're removable btw). Anyone have any experience on this?

At some point in the last month or two, they updated them to include A and B options for each curve type, but it was bugged so that it wouldn't save adjustments to individual curves. Now there's just the one option for each curve type, but adjustments will save. Each curve has been modified as well, I know for sure the "instant" option is different.
This is with the preview program though, so if you're not in that you might not see these changes yet.
And here's the extent which you can change one (smooth in this case):

At some point in the last month or two, they updated them to include A and B options for each curve type, but it was bugged so that it wouldn't save adjustments to individual curves. Now there's just the one option for each curve type, but adjustments will save. Each curve has been modified as well, I know for sure the "instant" option is different.
This is with the preview program though, so if you're not in that you might not see these changes yet.

I haven't played any games with them since the last change, no. Most games I feel the default works fine. Halo 5 could probably use some adjusting, but I haven't played that in a while. The Division (the beta at least) feels like it's got either some input delay or a weird delay in the acceleration curve, so I tried it with the aggressive setting for a while. I ended up switching back to default and just getting used to it though, because the aggressive setting made micro adjustments while aiming a bit harder.

Has anyone else controller will randomly turn off? Mine has started to do that in these last few weeks. I thought it was my batteries but it happens with new ones. I should probably send it in? I just don't want to be with out this very nice controller lol.

Turn off or lose connection? The latter could be interference, as I've dealt with that before with other controllers.
The accessories app is getting an update tomorrow.

I got mine today and have been playing around with the settings. Is it just me or is the accessories app crap?
It all seems organised backwards, I think I can do what I want to do now, though.
Controller seems really nice, a proper premium product and it fits nicely with my chat pad <3

Off topic but how do you like the chatpad? Are you in preview program and able to map the X1/X2 buttons?

I am! I didn't realise until a few days ago but its awesome, I mapped X1 to opening the achievements app and its so fast its awesome. The chatpad in general is really good, its nicely built, has all the headset adapter controls and is nice and easy to type into. Well worth getting imo and the programmable buttons is a nice bonus, the customisation options seem really nice for that

Can you explain those settings to a noob? Always wondering what exactly those settings change and for which games they are most useful.

See the difference in where the green dot is? With the adjusted curve, you get more turn speed from pushing the stick halfway than you do from the default settings. With the stick at full tilt, it'll be the same though.
One thing I'm not sure of and would like to know, is if this this gets layered on top of whatever curve the developer set for their game, or does this override their curve? I'm assuming it's the former, which means you more than won't be able to use the same setting s in this app for all games and have them all feel the same.
