Expected price.
Will pick it up down the line, probably not at launch.

You can go back and read my posts where I wrote about them talking about their small dev. team, procedural asset generation and quick time from the start of programming to the first demo.
They did all of this in the first reveal video.
If the game ballooned into something else after it became a Sony product, that might not be all applicable now, but they haven't really shown evidence that it has either. I think it's still being pushed as that original vision?
If this isnt an indie game, neither is Braid (published by Microsoft on XBLA) or Hotline Miami (Devolver) or Volgarr (Adult Swim)I'd note two things...
This isn't an indie game. Sony is publishing.
This doesn't cost $25-40. This costs $60.

And the price isnt the point, it's the notion that indie games cant be a certain price for reasons
LOL $60 for a digital only release? no thanks, bro.
Sony easily messed up the "out now" thing. The price might be different too. But I wouldn't mind paying $60 for something as big as this.
Final Fantasy XV review thread will be something.

Do you make all of your purchasing decisions based on where it is sold in stores?LOL $60 for a digital only release? no thanks, bro.
So you decided to ignore the part where I said Sony got involved because of the massive interest one video of the game generated.
A beautiful looking game where you can explore an entire fucking galaxy...?
Oh wait, $60 looooooooooooool no thanks! That $60 will be far better spent on another AAA repeatedly-shoot-people-from-a-first-person-viewpoint / climb-all-of-the-towers simulator.
You're delusional.Sony got involved because it's an interesting game with potential. I don't doubt that.
All I was saying is there wouldn't be anywhere near the same hype for it if they hadn't. It would just be another potentially promising Indie game, with little talk about it on forums such as this.
As soon as Sony takes it under there wing, it suddenly becomes the next coming of Christ on gaming forums, and no bad word shall be said about it without repercussions!
People are so defensive about a video game lol. It's pathetic.

Join us on Steam, where 60 USD releases are ONLY digital.![]()
NMS and Uncharted 4 review threads are my most anticipated GAF threads
They had better confirm VR support or not before launch.

I guess it depends on whether or not Sony funded the development, and to what degree.
These are always hazy terms.
With movies, for example, something like Birdman gets called an indie by some, even though it's put out by a subsidiary of Fox.
Yup
Pretty crazy how people rationalize things.

Ditto. Want my $60 then show me the VR support.

Not the price I expected, but okay. Hello Games must think the level of hype and awareness has reached a point to where they can sell at $60. Or Sony is helping it get a big-ass marketing campaign.
And yes, people surprised because it's digital need to take a look at PC, where digital stuff made by non-AAA developers has been $60 for years.
i'll wait for reviews
This isn't the argument that I've been making, so please don't attribute it to me.
First of all, I don't think "indie" is a very useful term.
I don't care if an independent studio puts out AAA development dollars to produce a game and sells it for a AAA price. That strikes me as entirely fair.
If a tiny group of developers puts out a game that cost substantially less to make, regardless of their corporate structure or affiliation, I would hope to pay less for it, unless they show me a very compelling reason why I should be paying more.
The NMS folks haven't yet done that, and the price strikes me as being out of whack.
I'll obviously make a final judgment when I have more information, but that's where I stand at the moment.
Pretty much the example I always give actually, and I'm sorry but it's why I never understand why people will always clamour to
"MS/Sony/EA published this, it's not indie!"
Who cares? The point about funding contribution is definitely true but we'll never know that so it's a moot point.
Is something like Hotline Miami or Always Sometimes Monsters not indie anymore cos it was published by another company? Even if it is a small team on a small budget creating a game which is small scope and has that undefinable indie appeal?
This topic keeps getting brought up (more and more now with increasing prices outside of AAA, which is objectively a good thing even if you think the price is too high! It's great that we can finally ahve something in between $15 and $60 blockbuster) but it's a totally worthless discussion.
I meant it as an example, as its right beside it on the blog post and nobody complains when a game is $60 from a big publisher...
Man this game is going to bomb. I don't mind paying $60 for it, depending on how it does critically, but it will bomb.

I agree entirely.
Apparently I've stumbled into an argument of indie vs. major publishers spawned by The Witness' price point, and people in this thread have been attributing beliefs to me entirely that I don't hold.
I want cheaper games, period.
I don't care who made the game, but if they spent a ton on making it, I do understand that I should be expected to pay a bit more.
