This is why I'm still excited to see it. Disney-era Marvel has done practically nothing for me. I liked Guardians for the visual aesthetic and soundtrack, but that's pretty much it.

I am very much in the mood for a superhero movie that is dark and weighty. If Batman and Superman aren't particularly heroic in this film, that's fine by me.

Then make up a new goddamn story with new characters.

You're looking for "dark" and "weighty," but not good, huh?

The best part of my night when going to see this was shouting, "OMG THEY GOT SPIDER-MAN IN HERE? IT'S FREAKING SPIDER-MAN!!!! HE'S IN THIS MOVIE?" At the end of Civil War trailer, the theater erupted with laughter and cheered in reaction to me pretending to be surprised. I think I sold it pretty well.

It was actually the most positive reaction in my theater, with Wonder Women right behind that.

You actually said oh-em-gee didn't you?

One of the worst edited movies I've seen, at least in terms of big time blockbusters.

And even though that could be due to having a lot of cuts, who would wanna see a longer movie of THAT! So much fluff for a long ass movie.

Can you imagine what awfulness could be in the cuts if they kept all of those dream sequences? Jesus

And the Martha connection cures all

Hey stop picking on Thor 1, I really liked it and found it funny and entertaining. Thor 2... I can't even remember what happened in it, but I remember thinking that it was just ok.

This narrative has been fascinating to watch. Film X (mostly Thor 1and 2 it seems) is bad therefore BvS can't be that bad so there!

When your defending your hero by trying to establish a very low bar for it to clear there's clearly a problem with the hero you're champion.

BvS isn't a terribly good film by the standards of filmmaking. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. I'd suggest it would be better to simply accept its isn't ever going to be judged as a great film and enjoy it for your own reasons instead without getting upset about that.

We've already determined The Spirit is, was, and ever will be the worst.
Hell yes. The worst... but oddly fascinating to watch as a perfect example of how not to do it.

Red caped God. Or, because his movies suck, so bring it up as an insult. I guess..

it's the former for me. the way this film handles superman and how much of an impact he's had on the world's self-esteem and even religious beliefs.

and then you have thor. the universe in that movie literally has old norse mythology with a guy called thor who is the god of thunder in it. this dork lands on earth, with hammer and all...and nobody seems to be that amazed that an actual God just proved his existence? you'd think by the second film or in the avengers you'd start seeing church of thors sprouting all over the place. but they choose to ignore all that and that's fine, but when the films itself aren't particularly fun adventure flicks you're left with some middle of the mall crap.

it's snyder's willingness to tackle ideas like that (and also attempt to delve into the psyche of these characters, nobody's gonna do that in the other studio comic book movies like sony, fox or marvel) that makes me want to like this movie a lot. but he has editing problems, he leaves in a lot of needlessly long scenes. lex is a bit too neurotic at times and poorly acted, and there's some stupid stuff sprinkled throughout (as well as greatness, that initial 20 minutes is too good. i don't see anything in the other comic book stuff beating it this year)

the man doesn't care. he knew kids are gonna want to watch batman and superman in a movie together for the first time and he puts their characters through the wringer. he literally introduced batman at what will presumably be his lowest point. batman is a damn psycho in here. superman seems to be sick of helping humans. i feel bad for the parents who took their kids to see this stuff lol. hell the film almost made me feel bad for being a batman fan. despite affleck/irons great performances bruce is a gross bully in this.

i can't hate a movie like this, even with all it's problems. it's too ambitious and wiling to experiment with these old characters, but snyder's talent just shines in short bursts and the rest of the time he messes his films up.

i want to see what the hell he would do with the justice league but i also think it's a terrible idea to let him run amok again. somebody else really needs to take the reigns of that movie because otherwise WB is going to alienate audiences. us nerds are masochists and we watch this and take the pain lol but the casual viewers won't keep coming back if the movies are like this.

I can't deny that this film has some intriguing concepts and images. It is Zack Snyder's vision, for better or worse.

It's just that the editing kills any sense of momentum or tension it might have otherwise had, along with the odd characterizations of the leads and shoehorned sequel hooks.

BvS: A bunch of things happen.

The movie is structurally piss poor, emotionally empty. Visuals? What visuals? Snyder nails Batman, but that's it. By the time the movie was over I was tired of how dark it was, even Superman's suit felt dark.

Wonderwoman being praised gets a laugh out of me. For what exactly is she getting praised? Because she shows up?

Eisenberg's Luthor may be the worst thing about this movie.

Eisenberg, Cavill, Snyder, editing and Weta Digital are equally bad. It's a mess.

She was the best looking character, had best hero presence and was just hell-yeah awesome. Gadot got me excited about WW solo movie. Batfleck on the other hand... I do not want Batfleck solo movie. Never, ever. He was mediocre as hell.

There is no greater truth.

No amount of good editing can fix shit like Eisenberg's Luthor and some other plot points (which I won't discuss here since it's the RT thread).

The Editing being fixed would have taken this movie from being terrible to mediocre at best (in line with Man of Steel, surprise surprise).

Eisenberg didn't even research the character. That's a level of disrespect for the source material you rarely see.

He actually flaunts he went to Wikipedia to learn about Lex Luthor, after he got the role. lol
Eisenberg sounds like a pretentious person in every aspect.

Tackling big ideas and themes is great if you actually spend time developing them. You could make an entire movie about Superman's effect on humanity. Instead you get a couple of vines, yay.

"Willingness to tackle big ideas", ahaha. If I'm having a dialog with someone, and that someone only opens its mouth to spew big ideas with no follow up or proper reasoning, and then throws a bunch of noises and spit around, you get the equivalent of BvS.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

He shouldn't have to research the character, the script and director should be all that he needs. He played the role the way Snyder wanted, reading a comic book isn't going to change what the director tells him to do.

It could have informed his own acting. His own understanding of the character.

Eisenberg has no idea how he fits into the pantheon of other Lex Luthors. “I’m so unfamiliar with anything surrounding it because I didn’t grow up reading the comics or watching these movies,” he said. “I read a little bit out of interest, but it was meaningless.”

But if you think it's 'meaningless' I can see how we got the performance we did.

The reviews deflated my hype so much I went in expecting the worse and came out with a much better experience. Overall though, the movie shows that Snyder can't tell a story properly.

It was implied Lex was mentally ill, if mildly at the beginning of the movie, he was completely beyond edge by the end of it.

I think something happens when he accesses the Krytonian Archives that pushes him over the edge and he is 'compelled' to create Doomsday (he was weeping in this scene). Maybe the extended edition will cover this.
