No Mans Sky | PC Performance Thread

970/6700k/16GB/W10/GOG.

Performance hasn't been great for me so far. No crashes so far, but the frame drops are nasty and game the game doesn't look all the good. Feeling like a bit of an idiot for preordering this on GOG only a few hours before release, especially since I've got an unopened copy of the PS4 LE too.

At least you should get 60 on ps4 quality settings right? So it's still better. Tried the shader and gsync thing already?

- Smoothness Fix 2: In your Graphics Control Panel set Shader Cache to "Off"

Yes (if this not placebo) it really helps me.
I also set fps to max, disabled vsync in game and turn it on in nvidia control panel (and triple buffering). Now we need to improve IQ, it really ugly with FXXA (SSAA4x does not work)

Could you turn it off? Any difference in the game for you?

I'm interested because, as you can guess, I've got AMD as well. But I've not got the game yet. Most of the discussion so far has been on Nvidia cards.

Yep, turned it off. Buttery smooth 1080p60 now with shadows and reflections on medium. Rest is maxed out.

Good Morning!

Added this to OP, seems to be helping a few people:

- FPS Boost/Smoothness Fix: Disable G-Sync
- Smoothness Fix 2: In your Graphics Control Panel set Shader Cache to "Off"

I can confirm that these setting completely fixes all stuttering

You also need to turn off fps limiter ingame (and enable vsync if you want 60fps lock)

6700k
Gtx1070
16gb ram
Ssd
Steam
Win 10

Runs locked @60 1080p now without stuttering as expected with this hardware

This game plays awful on my i5-760 and gtx 760. When I play in my laptop, i7 6700k and 980m it plays fine. My desktop isn't that bad, it should be able to handle this game without looking like a turd

Played about 2 hours this morning with shader cache off, getting much less stuttering, entering atmosphere still gives one stutter but i'll take that for how smooth the rest of it is now. Didn't touch the GSync setting because I don't have a GSync monitor.

Yeah that's my biggest issue with the game currently. It looks crap no matter the framerate or AA solution. I may just turn AA off just because it helps a tad, that and sitting further away from my monitor than usual.

Glad I'm not the only person who noticed it's rendering internally at a super low resolution, strange no one else is mentioning this!

Well the Gysnc fix didn't work, the shader cache fix didn't work...

i7 2700k, 390x, 144hz 1440p Freesync monitor. I think I would enjoy it a lot more if it actually ran well.

Hm, the shader cache fix working for other AMD people? Or is this potentially an NVidia only fix?

I threw together some cheats which should make this more fun for some of you, especially screenshotters. Use the gameplay cheats with caution. Please add to the OP.

F1: Infinite Jetpack
F2: Kill All Helmet FX (including scanlines, frost and all vignettes)
F3: 999 All Resources In Inventory (locks to that figure)
F12: On Foot FOV

More to come...
You are a gentleman and a scholar.

The game very clearly doesn't "render internally at a super low resolution", the 4k screenshots on page 2 of this thread are native 4k.

I went through and played with a bunch of different settings, and I always seem to get 22 fps and then much lower when moving around and doing stuff.

I think my game is a bit fucked...

Yeah, I think some of the textures look bugged now and again, seems to have a weird streaming solution carried over from the PS4 which can have some low res textures still in place, but the overall game seems fully rendered at the 1440p I select.

Have you uncapped the framerate? Specs if you have?

How do I use this ? Thanks though!

The effects on screen might be causing this blurryness, maybe?

Gonna throw in my experience here:

I7 2600k at 4.7ghz
Evga 980 SC
16GB 1600mhz RAM

And playing from WD Caviar Black. Stuttering now and then but mostly locked 60 fps at 1080p with everything on max except AA.

Also, don't turn off Shader Cache in global parameters of nvidia control panel, only turn it off for No Man Sky preset.

I dont see a profile for NMS, do we need to create one?

Nice will add your post the the OP, please PM me updates as I might miss them.

What are you calling this, NMS cheat trainer?

*edit*

Actually not even sure how to use this, could you please edit your post with instructions. I'll add it to OP then, thanks :)

I should of clarified, I know it's not actually stuck rendering at low resolution, it just feels like it because the textures are so low quality combined with all the post-processing junk and the lame AA solutions. The visuals looking muddy overall is my issue.

I just turned the AA off for a bit and got used to the jaggies, maybe I'll try injecting SMAA with Reshade later or something.

I meant to post in here last night but once I got my game running decently I got lost in the world and stayed up way later than I should have. I had an incredible time on my first planet.

But when I first booted up the game I was devastated, because I was getting about 5fps with tons of hitching and stuttering and freezing. I thought there is no way I can play this game, it's unplayable. My specs:

Intel i5 750 (first gen, really old)
Gtx 750ti 4gb (just upgraded to this)
8gb ram
Ssd

Then I got reading about the tweaks and here's what worked for me:

Forcing 16x af in nvidia control panel
Forcing vsync and triple buffering in same place
In game, fps limit to max, disabled AA, AF to 1

I made sure drivers and things were up to date, rebooted the PC cuz it had been a while and warily fired the game up.

OMG it's running great! Don't have a frame rate counter but it felt smooth, at least 30 which makes me so happy! I forgot about all of my troubles and just got sucked into the world like I should have been in the first place.

So for those having trouble, I feel you and hope you have success with the tweaks like I did.

I really dislike the ship flying controls, that's something I hope changes.

Also the mouse when in the ship feels very floaty and not responsive at all.

The last thing I noticed is that in-game sensitivity seems to have no impact at all... huh?

Oh boy. Could someone post screens showcasing with and without the helmet effects?

Yeah I'm pretty sure someone just made that up because of shader aliasing on things like windows and railings, or from the FXAA blur.

Just making sure I am not crazy - do other people get weird static on some of the darker textures? Things like monoliths and space stations have some oddly specific static that flicker, especially in the dark.

Wow that's great I'm going to try that. Photography might be the only reason why the game might be enjoyable in the end.

I have a weird issue where the game will play fine about 40-50fps and then after roughly half an hour of playing when I next jump into my ship the frame rate immediately tanks to single digits and lasts like that the entire time. So I have to quit the game about every 30 minutes and then restart it and it works fine again for a time. Any idea what's going on and how to fix it?
