Capcom just doesn't seem... cool anymore.

Not kinda. He looks like the boss he was meant to be until "Two minutes..."

Fuck this, all this F.A.N.G hate just fuels me. I'm going back to my avatar.

EDIT: Ahhh, I've missed you you lanky, low-tier, horribly balanced bastard.

They did what Nintendon't release a cross gen 3ds game.

They are way better than Gamefreak and TPC right now.

Juri is pretty godawful and lazy too being a knockoff Jojo character.

I mean, you want more girls in one pieces with hats?

latest

I'm pretty sure they were going to go with this as the roster until someone said, "no no no, we can't keep doing this. We can't tripple down ont he juri/juni/cammy/decapre thing"

shadowdolls00.jpg

I mean fuck...someone over there thinks this is the future of the series.

Capcom have been weak for a good while compared to other generations. Those SF5 characters aren't overdesign though they are just extravagant.

I think Street Fighter V is just an ugly looking game. I didn't dig SF ivs look either but now it's worse. Of all the new characters introduced in both IV and v I can't say I like any of them.

I feel like Capcoms spirit has gone to Platnium and Capcom is just an empty husk now.

There's a lot of truth on this, and poor Itsuma and Ono are more than likely delegated to projects they'll complete successfully but don't particularly enjoy.

All Street Fighter characters are knockoff Jojo characters. Embrace it.
It never stops cracking me up that one of the most 'Merican characters in video games ever was designed by a Japanese company, is based off a character from JoJo's and that that character was actually a
Mecha-Nazi.

You are judging the entire company based on some artistic choices in the Street Fighter series?

A series that regularly ripped off JoJo's Bizarre Adventure?

They make more than just fighting games, btw.

Dragon Dogma past due

Mon Hun is the only one I'll give them.Mon Hun stories still aint come west. I know its coming but it aint out yet.

Edit: Lost Planet 2 was my shit! But how many years it been since LP2? And LP3 was a turd

A very strict meter it seems.

They are still good but they are focusing too much into appeal a new western audience, which is not bad if you ask me

OP--you've articulated something about SFV that I've never been able to formulate as clearly. As someone who loves Street Fighter but isn't actually very good at any of them, a huge part of their appeal is just the experience of being in their respective worlds--of enjoying the art, music, and character designs. I really like the way SFV plays, but I don't get any of the other pleasures that resonated so strongly with me in past titles. It's incredibly frustrating!

edit: I'm in the "Juri is fucking lame" camp.

street fighter v has a ton of problems but the game feels so hollow compared to previous titles. rashid is the only stand out character and the redesigns of older characters are god awful.

Rashid's design is awful too though. Stereotypical middle eastern design for him and his bodyguard. He's like the el fuerte of this game

Personally I never really though capcoms designs were ever that great. Snk was where it was at in terms of cool factor in the heyday of 2d fighters (kof, samurai showdown, last blade, etc.)

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
It's a Street Fighter game. That's not an issue, that's a feature.
It's really offputting that somehow full adult women are somehow getting bigger breasts and hips with each installment and now all have identical body sets.

I feel like gaudy falls under the umbrella of over designed.

Gaudy: extravagantly bright or showy, typically so as to be tasteless.

Also, I stand by my Juri comments: She's got stupid toe holes, a dumb looking leather suit, and she still has stupid hair but somehow they made it pointier and worse in this version than in SF4.
You can be gaudy without being overdesigned. Again, there's very little things in her design that are plain unnecessary, like, no unnecessary trinkets like a jrpg character, Juri absolutely looks stupid imho, but not overdesigned.

That's what every Japanese developer began doing last gen. Rising dev costs mean you need a bigger audience.

He looks badass but plays like shit, he's low tier for second in command at Shadowloo, with the current Balance Balrog, M.Bison, and Vega are all better characters than him, this low tier fucker replaced Sagat, WTF was Capcom thinking?

Not only that, but just the recent games that are in the west (2-3 y, tops) I don't see how this can be a positive debate if that's the range of valid arguments, even more if it's just opinions

I do like their recent games, I even liked DR4!

Their work in the last RE/BIO is amazing

Just to be on the safe side, you do know that story relevance doesn't decide character balance right? Else Ryu'd be the best character in the game.

Also I think F.A.N.G plays VERY well, is generally well designed and is quite well animated. It's the offensive nature of the game + horrible balancing by Capcpom that lets him down. He has the potential to be a mainstay character for the series.

Capcom was thinking about DLC dollar signs when they release him in Season 3

Yeah, no.
I disagree.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Dragon's Dogma Online

Monster Hunter Stories

Monster Hunter XX

SFV wasn't made on house, but the designs are top notch, their rest of games are so good imho

I definitely agree with you on Dragon's Dogma, and it's super disappointing that a sequel will probably never come to fruition. The Phoenix Wright series is also pretty consistent with their overall design philosophy, as I can't recall a truly bad design that has popped up.

I'm a bit more half-in-half with the Monster Hunter series, but even I can agree that the monsters in that game a pretty memorable.

Nope I don't agree with you at all. I think Capcom is still a fantastic company.

Do you think they're a fantastic company, or do you love their legacy?

Because those are not the same thing. I think Capcom is, historically, a marvelous company. But so is Konami.

And they are currently both terrible.

Capcom always has been cool, and Capcom fans always throw shit over their new games. As an example, since SFII Champion Edition they always complained about the most recent Street Fighter games when they were new. And this includes Super Turbo and the SFIII games. After some time (especially when new entries are released) they start saying it was a gem.

You can also see this pattern in DMC with 4 and DmC, or in RE with RE5 and 6. Back then most people in forums were complaining, and now the amound of people who says that like them increased a lot.

I hate that Marvel vs Capcom Infinity (to me) seems like it's under strict contractual orders for the Capcom characters to not be allowed to potentially seem cooler than the MCU Disney approved characters, and look less like this:

There is definitely valid criticism to be lobbied against Capcom but that is not it.

Management has shit the bed.

Pretty fitting given the current state of American society ans politics.

I mean, I think they're just trying to keep costs and development times down by using existing characters from previous entries.

Capcom is going to charge us everytime there is a DLC pack for 1 amazing character, and we will pay it every single time.

Canonically, Sagat stopped drinking the Shadaloo Kool-Aid as of Alpha 3 (he only wanted his Salty Runback with Ryu). As such, he officially left Shadaloo after SFII &, until SFV brought F.A.N.G into the fold, the void was never filled.

As for Sagat himself, there's currently a rumor stating that he may be in Season 3.

Yea, no. The backlash will be fierce

While you could make a strong case that Capcom has lost it's sheen or "edge" if you will when it comes to their attitude and personality as far as their games go (and I would likely agree), Juri is perhaps the worst example you could pick out of a hat to prove the point. In a series that has never managed to live Street Fighter 2 down, where most of the mainstream's knowledge of the series' signature character roster begins and ends with whoever appeared in SF2, Juri is probably the only memorable design that Capcom made for the franchise in over a decade and a half. While just about every newcomer in SFIV and V felt throwaway (with the exception of maybe C. Viper who had somewhat of a shelf life for a while), Juri feels incredibly distinct and is probably the one home run they've had in recent history.

I wish there existed a version of Street Fighter 3 with her in it. She'd fit in swimmingly.
And then they kind of ruin it by sexualizing her to hell and back.

Just can't win with these guys. Gotta have their cake and eat it too. Bleh.

And we will still pay. Cursing and spitting as we claw at our wallets.

For all the people who complained about the leaked roster (me included), how many people are out because of it?

We stayed for Marvel 3. We'll stay for this. Because we need it.

This feels arguing semantics, but fine, I still think she's over designed. She's defined by weird, unnecessary information, like the lines that cross around her figure without any real meaning, defined by a monochromatic color palette that isn't particularly engaging on its own. Her suit makes little sense, padded in strange ways (again, simply to add more information and visual interest on an already boring figure) and her hair is formed into a strange, hornlike shape via magical hair ties.

Taking it even further, it appears that she was actually designed to have no black tights on underneath her leathersuit, and was instead supposed to show skin under the unzipped leather and around her crotch. This just leaves huge, strange spots of negative space which, again, do nothing but add more visual information to simply add it.

Regardless, I should have chosen a different character as there are plenty more bad designs to choose from in SFV.
