Actually Sony reveal all the specs about the new console in these events... just the launch playable games are left to E3.

Typical engineer who does not really understand the hardcore fans. New consoles only launch every 7 years now it is fun and exciting they want the dirt. people are taking this tweet of his out of context. he was called an asshole by an idiot for not giving the spec at CES so he is wondering if it is worth it that much to people to act this way. Nothing more and nothing less. his question is valid after what has happened to him.
I saw that to was not cool to be harrassed like that. Still he needs to be more understanding. It is awful what happened to him but sometimes being the bigger person is best. Fans pay the the mortgage most are not bad. Let security deal with the idiots and converse with cool ones. People will always want the scoop on their favorite hobby just the way of life. Any chip for a console likely has 4 spare CUs, for yields. I can't see a console manufacturer going without this tolerance. At the same time, you aren't going to go with a design with 16 or 20 spare CUs, you might see that in desktop where they bin so aggressively, but not in console.

Not sure what you mean, but do I understand you correctly in that a bigger die size has better yeld compared to a smaller on since the big one can just turn off defected cu's?
In that case you are wrong, it's acutally the opposite. Faults increase with die size, so a smaller die will likely have fewer faults. The more dies that meets your target, the higher the yield rate.

I'm pretty sure the Oberon Github leaks were only meant for backwards compatibility/performance per clocks test.
It just doesnt add up with Klee/Reiner/Screier rumours.

As a game programmer I would say both machines are very powerful.
Both are targeting above 11 TF's.Very similar in performance.Sony has edge over Microsoft in terms of SSD and Ray tracing.

I don't take these Github tests as reliable because it lacks context.
But if you look into them you will see they only tested 18CUs and 36CUs that match the PS4 and PS4 Pro number of CUs.
So they only tested two modes: 18CUs and 36CUs with both original clock and up to 2Ghz.
The Github testes shows to you that the PS5 in PS4 Pro mode can reach 9.2TFs in a stress test.
The clock up to 2Ghz is probably a stress test... no Navi based chip will run at 2Ghz in a comercial product... you can forget about that.
Now we need to know how many CUs the PS5 chip will have? That the Github tests didn't give you.

I'm really interested about the PS5 controller and its haptic feedback! it better be a clear step above the "rumble+" featured in the switch controller. like real next gen force feedback that actually makes a difference. what little they've said about it is for example playing a next gen racing game and feeling the different textures of the road? maybe they could integrate something where the controller becomes hot/cold based on the gameplay? I don't know, just speculating. the next few months will be torture waiting for next gen D:

The tests are about PS4 / PS4 BC modes so Ray-tracking is disabled.
There is no tests from what I know in PS5 Mode with full CUs and ray-tracking enabled.

It is a guess but yeap that is what I believe Sony is doing for the PS4 BC boost mode... that is why these tests exists too.
We already saw Navi running at 1822Mhz fine... it just that 2000Mhz the power draw increase desproporcionally.
Take in mind that these high clocks in BC Boost Mode is easier to archive due having disabled CUs.
Think like how AMD and Intel can increase (Turbo Clock) the clocks of their CPUs depending of how many core are in use (active)... more cores in use = lower turbo clock.

Frankly, he has already hung himself under his own words and behavior, and isn't taken seriously. Earlier in the thread, the dude ranted about how devastating and widespread the 9.2 TF "news" are and how it is bad optics that Sony has stayed silent.
I told him if such news were so impactful, then investors would've took notice and be concerned. The stock price would've dropped as a result of investor pessimism and uncertainty. However, the Sony's stock has been rising (up by ~1.4% so far today). Dude's been silent about that ever since.

Interesting. That's what I was expecting for the SSD. I'm bit surprised about the ray tracing though. Any knowledge of the type/amount/speed of ram in ether box?

Generally speaking:
Will Microsoft implement some sort of haptic feedback in their controllers? Everything keeps pointing to:
-PS5 having slightly more TFLOPS
-PS5 having faster SSD
-PS5 having better implementation of Ray Traycing
-PS5 backwards compatibility with PS4 with special sauce that makes the graphics look better

Do you have any guesses how add on hard drive memory might work? I would hate to need to buy an external drive as space is needed and have gaming performance ruined by any slower drives.

If tgese are true sony had targeted 600 for ps5 to take 100 as loss and sell it for 500.whereas ms had targeted 550 (zhuge estimate)to sell it for 500.

Can someone explain to me what would the use of much faster SSD be in a console? On PC we barely see much difference on faster SSD when it comes to things like loading a game. Will this have more to do with games being designed around SSDs and game world data being streamed at faster rate and thus taking oad off from both GPU and CPU?

My very limited knowledge on this subject and someone else can explain this better...
In a console setting where every new console will have this games CAN be designed around such a fast HDD.
In a PC way too many people still have mechanical HDDs so games have to be designed with that drive.
In the new consoles especially on the PS5 first party games will virtually have no load times, instant play if you will.
And these truly are my random thoughts.
Well except no load times on the PS5 but thats been discussed several times.

I think the theory is these new console SSDs are so good and fast vs a PC SSD that not only do you get load times of like 2 seconds, but the SSDs also act fake ram where it also caches assets so the game can process graphics faster.......
